Due to the thoroughbred meeting at Dubbo being postponed today, the times of races for the Kilcoy meeting were amended as follows: Race 1 – 12.51 pm, Race 2 – 1.26 pm, Race 3 – 2.01 pm Race 4 – 2.36 pm Race 5 – 3.11 pm Race 6 – 3.50 pm Race 7 – 4.30 pm

Race 1: Seapal Pallets & Crates Class 4 H’cap - 1060m

RUSTIC PLAY – Tightened for room at the start. Overraced in the early stages.

JAMES IS BLONDE – Tightened for room at the start. Stewards afforded jockey G. Geran the opportunity to comment on the performance. He stated that after beginning awkwardly he settled further back than he had anticipated. He added that he was mindful of the gelding’s racing pattern, which is to race up on the speed, and at a point near the 900m he elected to shift wider on the track and stride forward to take up a position outside the leader. Jockey Geran further stated that he was disappointed with the gelding’s finishing effort.

Race 2: Peter Cuskelly QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap - 1060m

KERRY BLUE – Began awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

MY ASSIGNMENT – Bumped shortly after the start. Stewards questioned trainer S. Watters regarding the tactics adopted whereby the gelding led in today’s race which was in contrast to its only start where it raced back in the field. Mr Watters informed stewards that at its only start at the Sunshine Coast on 29 May 2015 the gelding was slow to begin and raced greenly throughout, resulting in the horse racing towards the rear of the field. He also added today after beginning well and showing sufficient speed to take up a forward position, that it would now be his intention in future to issue similar instructions. Stewards accepted the explanation.

SCENIC DIAMOND – Bumped shortly after the start.

LAVRA QUALO – Raced wide for the majority of the race. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey R. McMahon stated he was trapped wide for the majority of the race without cover. He added that the filly may not have appreciated the tight turning track and today’s prevailing track conditions, and the performance, in his opinion, was somewhat disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

ECHELON ANNIE – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Rider S. Eilbeck reported her mount hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 3: Bechlys Transport Kilcoy Maiden H’cap – 1200m

SIR EARLSTOUN – Began awkwardly and was then hampered shortly after the start.

BRAMBLE DANCER – Bumped heavily and became unbalanced near the 1000m.

BURNING PAIN – Shifted in and bumped heavily with another runner near the 1000m. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

STAR OF PIAF – Bumped near the 1000m.

Race 4: Butler McDermott Lawyers Ratings Band 0-65 H’cap – 1900m

Stewards permitted R. Jamieson to replace S. Payne as the rider of GRACE WITH FIRE when S. Payne reported to stewards he had experienced transport difficulties and was unable to fulfill his engagement. Stewards advised S. Payne he would be required to produce evidence to stewards to confirm his explanation.

MANARIKI – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

GLAMORGAN BABE – Hampered when tightened for room a short distance after the start.

Race 5: Kilcoy Exchange Hotel Ratings Band 0-62 H’cap – 1200m

BEAUFORT GYRE - Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to determine whether the gelding was afforded a fair start. After viewing the film it was established that the horse reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground and therefore stewards were satisfied that it was afforded a fair start and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings. Trainer’s representative was advised that a warning would be placed against the gelding’s barrier manners.

SIPPIN’BUNDY – Had to be steadied near the 700m after improving onto heels. Held up from the 300m until the 200m.

AMAIZING DRAGON – Shifted out near the 300m in an endeavor to improve and in doing so bumped another runner. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

AUGUST BISHOP – Bumped near the 300m.

WESTERN MAIZCAY – Jockey J. Missen dropped his whip near the 200m.

EARLSTOUN RULER – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 6: Searle Garden Products Class 1 H’cap – 1060m

RUFFO - Declared a late scratching at 7.52 am on veterinary advice.

ALONE WITH YOU – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Rider N. Day reported to stewards that, in his opinion, the mare failed to handle today’s track conditions.

LYNYRD SKYNYRD – Forced outwards shortly after the start and was tightened for room, clipping the heels of ALONE WITH YOU and dipped.

COUNTER MEAL – Hampered when tightened for room shortly after the start.
Forced wider in the home straight.

BOOM BOX – Severely tightened for room shortly after the start and was checked when taken out across the heels of SPUR ME UP.

BIZARRE ROCK – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight, forcing another runner wider. Raced 3 wide without cover.

Race 7: Casella Family Wines Class 2 H’cap – 1500m

HE’S DIRT CHEAP – Raced wide in the early stages. Apprentice R. Jamieson reported to stewards that the gelding blundered in the going rounding the home turn when weakening.

ANGELICAN – Jockey C. Maund reported his mount failed to handle the prevailing track conditions and dipped on a number of occasions passing the 900m.

TAZI ARAZI – When questioned regarding the improved performance, stable representative Ms M. Phillips informed stewards that the gelding had been disappointing at its most recent starts, however today felt that the gelding had improved with fitness and also benefitted with the addition of the cross-over noseband and that the gelding was able to dictate terms by leading in today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.
