CRAIGLEA CHAMP – Tightened for room at the start.

JOLLY BOY – When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance, rider J. Stanley stated that the gelding began well and travelled comfortably until approaching the home straight but then proved disappointing when placed under pressure and in his opinion was disappointing. He added that he recommended to connections the addition of blinkers and a step up over further distances. Trainer H. Hayes advised that he will give consideration to the addition of blinkers and he will step the horse up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

ISLAND TANG – Tightened for room at the start.

PUDER – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

QUICK KETCH – Began awkwardly and shifted out. T. Treichel reported that his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the race.

STIGORI, which had been fractious in the saddling enclosure, was a late scratching at 2.20 pm on veterinary advice that the horse had sustained an injury. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on STIGORI be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to bets placed prior to scratching time:

6 cents in the dollar for the Win – How Fairdinkum
10 cents in the dollar for place of winner – How Fairdinkum
7 cents in the dollar for 2nd place – Leprechaun Lad
9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place – Glamorgan Babe

CREDIT ONLY – Stewards afforded J. Missen the opportunity to comment on the performance. He stated that after having a comfortable run throughout and travelling strong up to a point near the 600m, the gelding failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing in its finishing effort. Trainer S. Barling advised that he was expecting a forward showing today, although he was not surprised given the gelding’s inconsistent form, however he was still disappointed with the gelding’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

HALO SHINE – Apprentice R. Payne reported to stewards that it was her intention to lead, however the gelding failed to show sufficient speed in the early stages and therefore settled further back than she anticipated and raced wide in the early and middle stages.
