Race 1: D’AG PUB MAIDEN H’CAP – 800M

Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer W. Lawson, for failing to declare a rider for CONTINENTAL SILK by the required time.

MISS SERENA – Slow to begin.

CONTINENTAL SILK – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide for majority of race.

UNDERCOVER LOVER – Raced three wide without cover.

Race 2: CARLTON MID CANNONBALL SERIES HEAT BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 800M

R. Coveney, trainer of SWEET REPEAT, was fined the sum of $100 for failing to present the document of description for that runner.

SWEET REPEAT – Slow to begin.

STANATHOL – Bucked shortly after the start taking no competitive part in the event. Trainer J. Wehlow was advised the gelding must officially trial to the stewards satisfaction before being permitted to race again.

JEPTOO – Hung in near the 700m inconveniencing another runner. Shifted in on its own accord making heavy contact with the running rail near the 50m and became unbalanced.

DRAGON STREET – Inconvenienced near 700m.

LATIN AMERICAN – Raced wide.

MIM’S GALLERY – Raced wide.

Race 3: KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL DICK FERLING CUP QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1060M

WILL HE TORQUE – Slow to begin.

HALLSIDE REBEL – Began awkwardly and steadied from heels shortly after the start.

MAGIC GLOW – Steadied from heels near 800m.

HIGH COST – Shifted in near 800m inconveniencing another runner. Rider S. Drake was reprimanded. When questioned into improved performance rider S. Drake explained in her opinion the colt was not finding the line when competing over longer distances and the drop in distance for today’s race was a telling factor. Trainer G. Cornish explained he had freshened HIGH COST UP following its last race start and would now concentrate on short distances for its immediate racing program.

REAL ROMANCE – Tendency to lay out throughout race and raced wide for the majority.

SAILOR GERRI – When asked to comment on its performance rider K. Yoshida explained that whilst he was disappointed with the fillies performance he was of the opinion it would be better suited to a longer distance than that of today’s event. Trainer L. Birchley advised he was disappointed with the performance and was at a loss to explain it and gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to his attention in the following days. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

Race 4: GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1060M

HIMALAYAN WOLF – Slow to begin.

WHATEVER MISS – Raced wide with-out cover.

ISSY COMMAND – Raced wide.

DALPURA – When attempting a doubtful run near the 200m blundered and had to be checked from the heels of SUNFAST which initially shifted out bumping WHATEVER MISS and then shifted back in slightly.

LIGHTNING DRIFT – Steadied from heels of tiring runner near the 50m.

JAI’S LUCK – When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance of the gelding, trainer J. Judge explained that the addition of blinkers again today and a drop in weight from its previous start were contributing factors to today’s performance.

Race 5: BECHLY’S TRANSPORT KILCOY BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1200M

Trainer’s M. Brosnan (BEAUFORT GYRE) and B. Hull (KOLONGA) were each fined the sum of $100 for failing to declare rider’s for their runner’s by the required time.

SIGNPOST – Approaching the 900m commenced to overrace and improved to the inside of BEAUFORT GYRE and raced in restricted room for a short distance before shifting out and as a result raced wide from that point onwards.

ANASHEED – Raced wide.

Race 6: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS COUNTRY QLD SHOWCASE CLASS 3 PLATE – 1900M

HEREAFTER – Raced wide early.

SERALA – Raced wide early.

ELECTRIC DEE JAY – Unable to obtain clear running from the 600m until the 200m.

Following this race G. Goold (Halo Shine) was distressed when returning to scale and was stood down from his remainding engagement. G. Goold was advised he must provide a medical clearance prior his next race ride.

Race 7: CASSELLA FAMILY WINES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 12OOM

As G. Goold was indisposed he was replaced by apprentice T. Williams as the rider of CAUGHT A CRACKER when no other senior rider was available.

SHOWAMIA – Slow to begin.

BOBBY BE GOOD – Over-raced in the early stages of the race.

CAUGHT A CRACKER – Raced wide from the 600m.

On return to scale M. Gray, rider of 4th placegetter BOBBY BE GOOD, lodged an objection against DOING OUR BEST, ridden by C. Small being declared 1st alleging interference in the home straight. After hearing all submissions and viewing of the official race film it was established that near the 200m DOING OUR BEST shifted out slightly presenting a narrow run to BOBBY BE GOOD and when attempting to improve into that run raced in restricted and had to be restrained near the 80m when DOING OUR BEST shifted in marginally. This resulted in BOBBY BE GOOD going to the line over the concluding stages without being fully tested. When considering where the incident took place and the distance between 1st and 4th and further how both horses finished the race off, stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judges semaphored numbers.
