GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
 
Race 1 - Matthew Powell (BABY RUN) plus 1kg at 55.5kg. 
Race 3 - Chris Taylor (HEDONIE) plus 1kg at 55.5kg.
 
All races were put back one race slot when there was an issue with the photo finish equipment, with Race 9 rescheduled to start at 6:10pm
 
 
Race 1: KILCOY GLOBAL FOODS Maiden Handicap 1900 metres
 
OZARCH – Bumped at the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to coughing following the event. Co-trainer S Mackinnon confirmed with Stewards OZARCH would be sent for an immediate spell.
 
BAGUIO – Began very awkwardly and lost ground resulting in rider Adin Thompson being struck in the head, placing him at some disadvantage throughout the event. Adin Thompson was examined by QAS staff and stood down from his remaining riding engagement. A Thompson was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to his next race or trial ride. Inconvenienced leaving the 1600m.
 
BANTAMWEIGHT – Slow to begin. Leaving the 1600m was checked to avoid the heels of REG ‘N’ KATH. C Small, rider of REG ‘N’ KATH, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that passing the 1600m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BANTAMWEIGHT which had to be checked. The licence of C Small to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 12th January up to and including midnight 19th January 2023 upon which jockey Small is free to resume race riding on Friday 20th January. Mr Small was advised of his right to internal review. Rider R Jamieson reported BANTAMWEIGHT failed to handle the tight turning track and was unbalanced throughout the event.
 
BABY RUN – Made the crossing at the 1200m awkwardly, shifted in resulting in CARLIE EKSPLODES and SEQUOIA CHIEFTAIN racing in restricted room for a short distance.Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
PRINCESS POLLYANNA – Approaching the 600m improved onto the heels of the tiring CARLIE EKSPLODES and had to be steadied. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
CALATHIEL – Raced in restricted room for in the early stages of the home straight.
 
REG 'N' KATH – Jumped out at the start. Laid in over the final 400m.
 
SOCIAL DAME – Lost off fore plate in running.
 
 
 
Race 2: SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL Maiden Plate 800 metres
 
GEORGEOUS KING was declared a late scratching at 2:03pm when the horse was unable to be loaded into the barriers. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on GEORGEOUS KING refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st EVELYN SALT – 0c win, 1c place
2nd CURRY LEGEND – 0c place
3rd BON’S BETTER – 1c place
 
Trainer R King was advised GORGEOUS KING would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.
 
MONT ROYAL – Rider N Thomas reported the horse never travelled at any stage of the event.
 
ROYAL MIDNIGHT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
HARD TO LEVEL – Blundered on jumping and lost ground. When racing greenly near the 400m shifted in and bumped the running rail.
 
INVANESS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
SHE’S APPROACHING – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
WAN D’AMOUR – Slow to begin. Raced greenly and shifted out making the home turn.
 
STOBOSA – Laid in for a short distance leaving the 400m.
 
 
Race 3: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 800 metres
 
GOOD GRAB – Began awkwardly.
 
YAKUTSK – Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Near the 100m laid in and became awkwardly placed at the heels of HEDONIE for a short distance.
 
SPIRIT OF LUCK – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BABA VANGA – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 300m.
 
HEDONIE – Slow to begin. Near the 300m improved onto the heels of TECOMA STREET and shifted out.
 
HERO'S TRINKET – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Raced in restricted room over the final 50m.
 
LIVELY LASS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
ANGEL'S VOICE – Rider I Rabjones reported the horse was inclined to lay out throughout the event.
 
 
 
Race 4: TAB QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
CALICO COUNTY – Jumped out at the start and bumped ROSE OF RAHEEN.
 
VIMINELE – After being loaded into the barriers, became fractious, was removed, underwent a veterinary examination, and was cleared to start.
 
IRISH SALLY – Crowded for room shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
ROSE OF RAHEEN – Bumped at the start. Raced greenly in the early stages when pressured to hold a forward position.
 
SAND AND OCEAN – Began awkwardly. Shifted out in the early stages of the home straight after improving onto the heels of ASHMOLEAN.
 
WAR AND FINANCE – Change of tactics, to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin settled in a rearward position.
 
ZESTAR – Shortly after entering the home straight momentarily steadied from the heels of IRISH SALLY which shifted in. G Geran, rider of IRISH SALLY, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
SHADES OF LOUVRE – Became awkward in its action approaching the home turn when weakening. Rider W Peel reported the horse in her opinion choked off during the race. Trainer P Duff advised Stewards he would now be adding a tongue tie to the gear of SHADES OF LOUVRE.
 
FOREBEARS – Took charge of its rider from the 800m and hung out throughout the event and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer B Costello was advised FOREBEARS must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Mr B Costello reported it would now be his intention to spell FOREBEARS.
 
ELLOWS HALL – After kicking out behind in the tie-up stalls, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Rider Andrew Spinks reported the horse raced with its tongue over the bit during the event. Trainer T Cotsiopoulos indicated she would now experiment with a tongue tie on ELLOWS HALL prior to it’s next start.
 
 
 
Race 5: AUSTRALIA DAY KILCOY RACES RUNNING FASHION BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1200 metres
 
BOOMI'S BUDDY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
PUBLICAN'S PURSE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
AGARN – Began awkwardly. Made the 800m turn awkwardly.
 
JUST SO FANCY – Very fractious moving onto the track and reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Tired noticeably over the final 200m of the event. Trainer J Johnson was advised the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Mr Johnson added it would now be his intention to spell JUST SO FANCY.
 
ALL DASH – Held up approaching the home turn and obliged to alter course around the heels of the tiring JUST SO FANCY. Held up for clear running over the final 50m and was unable to be fully tested by its rider.
 
DEVILLAIN – Bumped at the start.
 
DIVENIRE – Jumped in at the start and bumped DEVILLAIN.
 
BOITUMELO – Had to be steadied when racing in restricted room in the early stages of the home straight when weakening.
 
ILLECEBROUS – Slow to begin.
 
KALLIE – Near the 700m raced keenly at the heels of DIVENIRE and had to be steadied.
 
 
Race 6: KILCOY GIFT SPRINTS AUSTRALIA DAY BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1200 metres
 
HARRYANDTHETIGER was declared a late scratching at 1:51pm on veterinary advice after the horse sustained a cut to the jaw when being transported to the track. HARRYANDTHE TIGER was subsequently treated by the on course veterinary surgeon.
 
SPILL THE TEARS – Laid out rounding the 800m turn and again rounding the home turn.
 
DRAGON PINS – Raced keenly in the middle stages of the event. Forced wider leaving the 300m and then raced in restricted room for a short distance.
 
MADAGASCAR MISS – After displacing the tongue tie in the saddling enclosure, was refitted on arrival at the barriers. Began awkwardly.
 
BRAZETTI – Raced wide throughout.
 
RODIAN BULL – Became very awkward in its action when weakening near the 300m and lost ground. A short distance later, raced in restricted room and had to be restrained when COFFEE COMING was taken inwards by DRAGON PINS which shifted in whilst awkwardly placed at the heels THUNDER MOON.A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the nearside foreleg.
 
SIDEWALK – Slow to begin.
 
COFFEE COMING – Raced keenly in the middle stages of the event.Near the 300m improved onto the heels of the weakening RODIAN BULL and had to be steadied and shifted wider. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
DYNAMIC JEWEL – Blundered badly on jumping and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the near foreleg. Shifted both front plates during the event.
 
SCARE CAMPAIGN – Began awkwardly.
 
SUNNY EKCELS – Slow to begin. Obliged to alter course approaching the 100m when racing to the inside of SCARE CAMPAIGN.
 
 
Race 7: KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1900 metres
 
BUDDY'S TALE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event. Rider N Vuille reported the horse in her opinion failed to travel with the removal of blinkers and it was her recommendation to connections that blinkers be reapplied to BUDDY’s TALE going forward.
 
DAMREEL – Approaching the 300m raced in restricted room for a short distance.
 
CHAYSE 'N' STORMS – Passing the winning post on the first occasion laid in despite the efforts of its rider and bumped THE ANGEL KISS.
 
THE HOUSEMAN – Began awkwardly.
 
HE'S VIRAL – Passing the winning post on the first occasion was bumped heavily by FRIEND OF GOD, which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
IT MUST BE LOVE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
ALALTUN – Bumped with THE HOUSEMAN shortly after the start.
 
NITROGLYCERINE – As A Thompson was stood down by QAS staff after his ride in Race 1, Stewards permitted L Allen to ride the horse.Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
THE ANGELS KISS – Bumped passing the winning post on the first occasion.
 
 
 
Race 8: SEARLE GARDEN PRODUCTS Class 2 Plate 1500 metres
 
DINNY'S A SUSPECT – Began awkwardly. Held up approaching the home turn. Raced in restricted room over the final 50 metres of the event.
 
JIMMY NEUTRON – Slow to begin.Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
SKILLED ARTIST – Held up approaching the home turn.
 
KAIQUE – Raced wide in the early stages of the event before progressing forward to race outside the leader near the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer A Boyd was advised KAIQUE would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
 
 
Race 9: AUSTRALIA DAY FAMILY DAY BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1500 metres
 
DREAMSEEKER – Slow to begin.Raced keenly at heels passing the winning post on the first occasion.
 
PAPAS DREAM – Began awkwardly.
 
VANDINI – Began awkwardly. Rider N Thomas could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Co-trainer S Mackinnon advised in light of today’s poor performance VANDINI would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Mr Mackinnon advised the stable would be reviewing the immediate racing future of VANDINI.
 
MR LANNIGAN – Taken wider on the track passing the winning post on the first occasion.Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
CADOUIN – Began awkwardly. Taken wider on the track passing the winning post on the first occasion. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
RAINS APLENTY – On arrival at the barriers and at the request of the rider, underwent a veterinary examination before being cleared to start. Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HOLD ALL TICKETS – When racing keenly at heelslaid out making the crossing at the 1200m taking MR LANNIGAN and CADOUIN wider on the track.
