As M O’Brien and F Elliot were not riding at today’s meeting, stewards permitted riding changes as per the Race-day summary sheet.
RACE 1: CLASS B HDCP 900 Metres
HOT SCENT – bumped by another runner on jumping away
CAST OUT – jumped in at the start and contacted another runner
CRAIGLEA PISTOL – had a tendency to lay in during the early stages of the home straight
TALK BACK – raced wide in early stages. When questioned regarding below market performance, rider J Missen stated despite being caught wide in the early stages, the mare travelled well to the 400 metres, however when placed under pressure was disappointing from that point onwards. He added in his opinion TALK BACK would derive benefit from the run.
RACE 2: MAIDEN PLATE 1000 Metres
The start of this event was delayed when CRACK OF DAWN was re-saddled behind the barriers
.
Correct weight was initially delayed to allow stewards to determine if EVERINGHAM, which missed the start by a considerable distance, was afforded a fair start, and further to allow J Missen, rider of second place LIILIAN ELIZA, to view the photo finish image for first.
On review of the start it was established EVERINGHAM turned its head outward into an adjoining barrier stall just prior to the start being effected, and as such was declared a runner.
After viewing the photo finish image, correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored by the judge.
EVERINGHAM – turned head prior to start being effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer B Hudson was advised the gelding would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. Stewards questioned App H Phillips into her reason for racing wide from the 600 metres after having ridden EVERINGHAM vigorously for the first 400 metres of the event after having lost considerable ground at the start. App Phillips stated her instructions had been to lead, and after missing the start she endeavoured to carry out those instructions. After viewing the patrol video App Phillips agreed that she had erred in trying to fulfil those instructions and also by racing wide leaving the 600 metres.
CRAIGLEA SNAPPY – when questioned regarding below market performance rider R Faehr stated the gelding travelled well to the turn but when placed under pressure was disappointing. A subsequent Vet examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 3: CLASS 1HDCP 1200 Metres
CRAIGLEA DEKEN – hung out rounding the home-turn
TWEEDIES – slow to begin
SPINY BURR – rider reported at scale made the crossing at the 1000 metres awkwardly
RACE 4: OPEN HDCP 1200 Metres
BRADY N ME – slow to begin. L Appo reported at scale the gelding raced flat today and was disappointing.
-
RACE 5: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 1400 Metres
Correct weight was delayed when D McIntosh, rider of PAGOH, requested to view the start of this event as he was of the opinion the outside barrier gate had swung back on opening hampering his mount. After viewing the start stewards declared correct weight on the judge’s placings.
WESTERN MAIZCAY – when questioned regarding below market performance, rider J Missen stated the gelding travelled well in the run, however when placed under pressure in the straight failed to run on.
KING BING – raced wide in the middle stages
