GENERAL – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Trainer Mr C Prow as to the reason for the late declaration of riders for Race 1 NATURAL MIST and Race 2 GO SAI.
Trainer Mr K Laffin was reminded to declare his riders by the prescribed time.
Trainer Mr R Little was fined $ 100 for not declaring a jockey for DANROCKING in Race 2.
Prior to the running of Race 1 all riders riding at today’s meeting were breath tested and after all posting negative results were cleared to take their mounts.
RACE 1 – 1.30pm – PRO TYRES BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1000m
1st – HOFFENHORRY 2nd – ME MYSELF AND I 3rd – NATURAL MIST 4th – RICKSHAWTORAFFLES
ME MYSELF AND I – slow to jump
RICKSHAWTORAFFLES – laid in during the early stages of the race
I’M CHILLIN’ – after showing speed to lead compounded badly after rounding the home turn and when tiring made heavy contact with the inside rail at the 200m almost dislodging her rider. Post-race was vetted and found to have a slightly elevated heart rate and some inconsistency with it’s breathing. Trainer Mr H Forster was advised the filly would be barred from racing until it completes a satisfactory gallop over 800m in the presence of a steward and vet and then be cleared by the vet prior to racing again.
RACE 2 – 2.05pm – ALBERT PARK MOTOR INN BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1000m
1st – ANOTHER SHADE 2nd – FLIRTING DRAGON 3rd – WASHER 4th – ELLE STYLE
HONEY BLONDE – at the 200m rider had to alter course to avoid the heels of GO SAI who marginally shifted when tiring
RHYTHM NATION – laid in over the concluding stages
RACE 3 – 2.40pm – SHELL LONGREACH SERVICE STATION BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1100m
1st – CONQUISTADOR 2nd – LEGAL DANCER 3rd – BILLY JAY 4th – HEART THROB
HEART THROB – after being fractious in the barrier was bumped by AGENT OF MERCY on jumping
AGENT OF MERCY – on jumping shifted out making contact with HEART THROB
RACE 4 – 3.25pm – PRO TYRES QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
1st – PINTERRA 2nd – MALIBU THIEF 3rd – MAJOR LEGACY 4th – CHANDELIER LASS
CHANDELIER LASS – bounded in the air on jumping and lost some ground
Riders D Rewald and W Doyle were reminded of their obligations with regard to excessive use of the whip in a backhand manner.
RACE 5 – 4.00pm – PRO TYRES OPEN HANDICAP 1300m
1st - HELLUVA HURRY 2nd – HOLEY GADOLEY 3rd – SECRETS 4th – REIGNING TO WIN
SECRETS – was slow into stride
HELLUVA HURRY – began awkwardly and then raced three wide throughout
Rider R Hancock was reminded of his obligations with regard to the height of his whip arm when using the whip.
RACE 6 – 4.30pm – WATTS CATERING BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1600m
1st – SPIRIT OF MANY 2nd – NORTHERN MAGIC 3rd – MONTH OF SUNDAYS 4th – NOU CAMP
VICE PRESIDENT – slow to jump
SWEENEY – tired at the finish and appeared disappointing. When questioned trainer D.Rewald explained that the gelding will back up next week in an event which will be a drop down in class over 1300m and expects the gelding to be better placed. Stewards noted his explanation.
