SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

The start of the first race was delayed due to Stewards and Riders concerns regarding the state of the track; particularly between the 600 metre and 300 metre point. Stewards directed the Club to perform an amount of work over the entire track including the chutes in an effort to ensure the safety of the riders and to hold the meeting as scheduled. After the work was performed a number of inspections were carried out by Stewards in the company of the riders. The Jockeys agreed the track appeared to have improved and were of the opinion it was safe and agreed to ride at today’s meeting. The meeting went ahead and the first race start time was amended to 2.15pm.

Race 1- GALLIPOLI BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 800M.

ASTRONOMER - (Appr. Ms S. Lacy) Was slow to begin.

HIDDEN DUCK- (App. N. Ogura) Began awkwardly and raced wide throughout.

DESERT PLAYBOY- (D. Brown) Hung out during the mid-stages of the event.

SARSGHI- (J.Geppert) Jockey J. Geppert advised Stewards that he lost an iron and that the saddle had slipped on his mount when leaving the barriers. He stated this matter contributed largely to the horse’s poor performance at today’s event. Stewards noted his comments.

Race 2- SAMIOS TRADING POST BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1000M

The start of Race 2 was delayed when PLATTERS broke through the barriers. The horse was quickly pulled up by Apprentice Jockey S. Lacy and examined by the attending Veterinarian. The horse was passed fit to start and took its place in the field.

MAGIC RAELENE (Ms B. Richardson) Travelled wide over the final stages

KUNG FU KITTY (Appr. Ms R.Payne) Laid out over the final stages.

GAELIC HERO (J.Geppert) Laid out under pressure over the final stages.

IN MY FACE (D. Brown) Jumped in at the start and laid in approaching the 500M point resulting in the rider having to take hold.

Race 3- WOODESON EXCAVATIONS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200M

PROJECT COMPASSION (Appr. L.Tilley) Was held up momentarily when being crossed by another runner approaching the 1000M point.

LOUPPY BEND (D. Brown) Was slow to begin.

SIALIA MAGIC (Appr.S. Palmer) Shifted in marginally approaching the 1000M point. Apprentice Jockey S. Palmer was advised by Stewards to exercise more care when crossing other runners and ensure there is sufficient room to do so.

Race 4- RAY WHITE RURAL ROMA QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200M

The start was delayed when the rider of LITTLE BOMBER (Appr. N.Ogura) was dislodged on the way to the barrier. The gelding galloped a significant distance prior to being captured. The horse was examined by the Veterinarian and was a late scratching at 4.21 pm on Veterinarian’s advice. All monies invested on LITTLE BOMBER were ordered by stewards to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and placed on the winner and place-getters prior to 4:21pm:

O cents in the dollar for the win #2 (MISS AMABELLA)
9 cents in the dollar for place of the winner #2 (MISS AMABELLA)
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place getter #4 (TAVY NIGHTS)

Stewards spoke to Apprentice Jockey Ogura who stated that he had slipped from the horse, and that he was uninjured. Stewards elected to take no further action.

CARLSONS COTTON (Appr. L.Tilley) Jumped out on leaving the barriers.

DARKNESS ABOVE (Appr. Ms. S.Lacy) Was slow to begin and travelled wide during the middle stages of the event.

IRISH DARK (B. Powell) Was tightened for room between runners shortly after the start; this resulted in the mare losing significant ground.

MISS AMABELLA (Appr. Ms R. Payne) Jumped in shortly after the start.

Race 5- BOORINGA CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1400M.

Correct weight was delayed to afford Jockey B. Richardson the opportunity to view the patrol film available to determine whether she had grounds to lodge an objection against TESTASCANA being declared the second placed horse ahead of her mount MORE OF THE ZAIM which finished in third position for alleged interference over the concluding stages. After viewing the available footage B. Richardson elected to proceed with a protest. After hearing the evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol film available at today’s meeting Stewards dismissed the objection stating that they acknowledge that apprentice S. Palmer did shift ground, and that Ms Richardson appeared to shift in momentarily and had to momentarily stop riding to correct her mount. After considering the proximity to the winning post where the interference was alleged to have taken place and the margin of the placegetters, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that S. Palmers shift was such that it cost B. Richardson second placing, the objection was subsequently dismissed and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers semaphored. At a subsequent enquiry after the event S. Palmer was reprimanded for Careless Riding under AR 137 (a).

TESTASCANA (Appr. S. Palmer). Shifted out over the concluding stages of the event.

MORE OF THE ZAIM (Ms B. Richardson) Proved difficult to load. Trainer S. McEwan will be advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding. Hung in slightly over the concluding stages of the event.

SHAKES (Appr. L.Tilley) The rider was fined $100 by Stewards for excessive whip use prior to the 100M point.

VAN ROSSUM (J. Geppert) Stewards were advised by Trainer Mr C. Smith that the gelding had bled from both nostrils following the running of today’s event. Trainer Mr C.Smith was advised by Stewards that the horse would incur a three (3) month ban and must gallop over 1000m in the presence of stewards prior to being permitted to race again.
