Late Riding Changes

As Jockey W. D'Avila was ill and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey D'Avila was advised that he must provide a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

RACE 1: Join the MTC Club Today QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap - 1100 metres
1st - McCAPHE 2nd - CRAIGLEA BLITZ 3rd - CRAIGLEA ZIP 4th - ULTRA RED

ULTRA RED - Crowded for room at the start. Held up and unable to obtain clear running over the concluding stages.

McCAPHE - Began awkwardly, threw its head back and made contact with its rider, App. R. Payne. In the incident App. Payne sustained a laceration to her lip, was examined by the Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil her further engagements.

AMBER'S GIRL - Was bumped by another runner shortly after straightening for home.

CRAIGLEA ZIP - In the home straight raced greenly under pressure.


PURE CHANCE - When questioned regarding the poor performance, Jockey F. Edwards explained that the only explanation he could offer was that the colt was obliged to race wide throughout and was inclined to hang out.

RACE 2: Fiesta Rentals Maiden Plate - 1100 metres
1st - SYMPHONY IN TIME 2nd - SPLINTER 3rd - OH YEAH 4th - LYKELY

SYMPHONY IN TIME - Crowded for room shortly after the start.

RED RADA - Raced wide throughout. On returning to scale Jockey P. Cullen reported that the gelding laid in over the concluding stages.

IN RECOVERY - Raced wide throughout.

STORM IN AFRICA - Passing the 800 metres improved onto heels and had to be steadied.

OH YEAH - When questioned regarding the gelding leading today, Jockey Dale Evans said that from a more favourable barrier draw he was instructed to take up a prominent position, if possible. He said that after beginning well he rode his mount along vigorously and was able to obtain a forward position and travelled comfortably throughout, however was inclined to race greenly when placed under pressure in the straight.

ENCORONADA - Jockey A. Coome reported that the gelding travelled comfortably, however failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and weakened noticeably. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer J. Manzelmann expressed his disappointment with the performance and added that it was now his intention to have the gelding ridden from behind.

RACE 3: Champion C Stud Equestrian Centre Class 3 Plate - 1560 metres
1st - REAL YUMMY 2nd - MAGGIE'S PAL 3rd - LOFTY'S MATE 4th - VON MOGLICH

LOFTY'S MATE - When Jockey W. D'Avila was ill, Jockey P. Cullen was substituted as the rider of the gelding.

REAL YUMMY - Bounded in the air on jumping. Stewards questioned trainer R. Cussons in regard to the seemingly improved performance of the mare. Mr Cussons explained that this was the mare's second start for his stable. He said that its most recent start the mare had been disappointing and consequently he had increased the workload of REAL YUMMY. Nevertheless he was at a loss to explain the horse's winning performance today.

VON MOGLICH - Began awkwardly.

SHUFFLES - Raced wide throughout.

RACE 4: Suncrest Food Distributors Handicap - 1560 metres
1st - CRAIGLEA FALCON 2nd - BARAMUL BULLET 3rd - ALDREN 4th - FRAIDSO

DEL PALIO - Began awkwardly and lost ground.

RACE 5: Launch Accounting Class 2 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - TESTATIME 2nd - RANGILA 3rd - THANKGODFORFRANC 4th - EMIRATES ART

BARBOUGE - The explanation tendered by trainer N. Coyne for the late declaration of Jockey D. Evans was accepted.

ILLUSIONS - Missed the start (2 lengths).

SUNNY CHIEF - Raced wide throughout.

FLIGHT TO GLORY - Raced wide throughout.

NINE TIMES - A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which failed to respond to the urgings of its rider thoughout the event, revealed that there was swelling in its off foreleg.

PASCALINO - Following the gelding's disappointing performance trainer M. Bannon said that PASCALINO will now leave his stable.

RACE 6: Transit Tyres BM70 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st - PERFECT KNOWLEDGE 2nd - FROM THE DARKNESS 3rd - HOLDONTOYAHORSES 4th - TAN TAT ALPHA

SURF FIRE - Slow to begin.

HOLDONTOYAHORSES - Passing the 800 metres had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FROM THE DARKNESS (T. Bannon), which shifted in when not quite clear. Jockey T. Bannon was reprimanded.

DR BARNARD - When questioned regarding her riding of the gelding Apprentice R. Payne explained that she had been instructed to ride the gelding back in the field. She said that the gelding travelled comfortably throughout and shortly after straightening for home she attempted to improve into a run between SURF FIRE and BON TEMPS, however when BON TEMPS shifted out, she was disappointed for that run and then had to be shifted to that runner's outside, where the gelding ran home only fairly.

STRUTTER - Jockey D. Green was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for using the whip on his mount when it was out of contention.

RACE 7: Smart State Rentals BM60 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st - KILLER WASP 2nd - COURT CLOWN 3rd - LET IT SNOW 4th - EXPEL

EXPEL - Prior to the running of this race trainer J. Manzelmann informed stewards that the intention was that the filly would be ridden back in the field. Public announcements were made to that effect, and the filly was ridden accordingly.

CROTCHET - Slow to begin.

PRELUSIVE STRIKE - Raced wide throughout.

LA RIVE DROITE - For some distance approaching the 200 metres was held up on the heels of a weakening runner, was again held up for clear running over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.
