FOREST MAGIC - The start was delayed when the gelding refused to load into the barriers. Scratched by order of the stewards at 12.39 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on the gelding be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

1¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, COLD MELODY
1¢ in the dollar for the place, for the winner, COLD MELODY
2¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, LYKELY
2¢ in dollar for the place for third, CATCH A GLIMPSE

Trainer R. Walsh was advised that he must obtain a barrier certificate prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

ALLGIRL - The start was further delayed when the bridle broke and a new bridle had to be fitted. Was slow to begin, raced greenly and wide throughout.

HAYYLER'S AFFAIR - Began awkwardly and lost ground.

NINETTE KAN - Raced keenly and was inclined to lay out throughout the middle stages. Shortly after straightening for home had to be steadied when disappointed for a run.

HAYYLER'S CASINO - Hung out and was awkwardly placed on heels throughout the middle stages.

COLD MELODY - Approaching the winning post shifted out abruptly, despite the efforts of its rider, and crowded NINETTE KAN, which had to be checked.

1st - DASH OF WIZZARD 2nd - JUST ONE WISH 3rd - MOUNTAIN LANE 4th - LAVRA QUALO

JUST ONE WISH - When Jockey R. McMahon was late arriving on course, due to transport difficulties, Jockey D. Simmons was substituted.

HAYYLER'S HOPE - Refused to jump and took no competitive part in the race. Trainer R. Woods was told that he must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

MAROON BLUE - Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer M. Dale was told that a warning will be placed on the gelding's manners.

MOUNTAIN LANE - Began awkwardly, then attempted to buck for a short distance. Trainer A. Cameron was advised that a warning will be placed on the filly's racing manners.

ULTRA RED and HIDDEN THUNDER - Were slow to begin.

CRAIGLEA ZIP - Approaching the 900 metres was buffeted between runners.

ZAZAAR and AMBER'S GIRL - Raced wide throughout.

WICKED CRIME - Jockey J. P. Stanley, the rider of WICKED CRIME, was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on 7 occasions prior to the 100 metres, two times more than is permissible under A.R. 137A (5)(a).

When questioned regarding WICKED CRIME racing forward today, Jockey J. P. Stanley said that at the colt's most recent start it had been the intention to go forward, however the colt struck interference at the start. Jockey Stanley stated that from today's wide draw he rode his mount along in the early stages and was able to obtain a position outside the leader, where it travelled comfortably.

RACE 6: Hillross Class 6 Plate - 1300 metres
1st - MIATA 2nd - RADIANT ANGEL 3rd - DAZZLE ON 4th - MURTLE MISS

FRAIDSO - Was slow to begin.

DAZZLE ON and STRUTTER - Made heavy contact at the start.

ELOVACHILL - Rounding the first turn, near the 1200 metres, was reluctant to hold its position when racing tight to the inside of another runner. Was held up for clear running over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.

BUCASIA BEACH - Raced wide throughout.

RACE 7: Knight Frank Handicap - 1560 metres
1st - DODGE THE GREY 2nd - CASTLE EXPRESS 3rd - BLOWIN' YOUR MIND 4th - HATZIS

BLOWIN' YOUR MIND - Bounded in the air at the start.

HATZIS - Was slow to begin.

CASTLE EXPRESS - Passing the 1200 metres improved onto heels and had to be steadied. When questioned regarding his riding approaching the 600 metres, as to whether there was an opportunity to improve earlier than he did, Jockey McMahon said that, bearing in mind that the gelding was first-up since January, rather than attempt to sustain a long wide run, he elected to remain racing on the back of another runner, however when that runner did not quicken as expected, he was obliged to shift out rounding the home turn, where the gelding ran home strongly. His explanation was noted.

MCCONACHY - For some distance in the early part of the home straight wass held up on the heels of a weakening running.

MINTARO - Leaving the 200 metres shifted out and hampered ALDREN.

JUST HUSTLED - A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which raced keenly and then weakened, did not reveal any abnormality.

ARIADNE - A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which laid in throughout the event and proved disappointing, revealed that it was lame in the near foreleg. Trainer R. Binder said that the mare will now be retired from racing.

RACE 8: Black Duk Kitchens Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - RANGILA 2nd - VALJEAN 3rd - RAPIDSET 4th - MARTINGALE

MARTINGALE - When App. M. Powell was to be significantly overweight, stewards permitted Jockey T. Bannon to be substituted and to rider the mare 1kg over its declared weight as no other suitable rider was available. App. Powell was fined $300 under A.R. 120(b). In assessing penalty stewards took into account App. Powell's poor record in relation to this rule. On returning to scale Jockey T. Bannon reported that her mount was inclined to hang out throughout the event.

VALJEAN - Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

SYMPHONY IN TIME - When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Jockey J. P. Stanley could offer no excuse other than that in his opinion the mare may have got its tongue over the bit. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer R. Binder undertook to report if there was anything amiss with the mare in the days following the event.

TAPPESTRY - Slow to begin.
