Race 1: Mackay Chiropractic Maiden Plate – 1300m

CATCH A GLIMPSE – Declared a late scratching at 8.10 am by order of the stewards.

KHADIJA – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the straight.

IN RECOVERY – Slow to begin, then raced uncompetitively throughout. Trainer Mr N. Seymour was told that a warning would be placed on the gelding and should it not improve at its next race start it would be placed in a barrier trial until it was competitive.

LYKELY – On return to scale, jockey P. Cullen explained that from the wide draw he was caught 3 wide without cover throughout and his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the event and attributed this to the poor performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of respiratory distress. Stable representative G. Britnell was advised he must furnish to the stewards a veterinary certificate, including the results of an endoscopic examination.

When stewards were notified 4 minutes prior to the running of the first race that R. McMahon was indisposed for the day, the following riding changes were permitted. R. McMahon will be interviewed at a later date.

MOONSHINE MAGGIE – Jockey J. Stanley reported his mount laid in in the straight and proved difficult to ride out.

BOCEPHUS – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey M. McGuren advised that his mount travelled comfortably throughout, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

Race 3: AJK Contracting BM75 H’cap – 1560m

FINAL CHAPTER - Declared a late scratching at 8.10 am by order of the stewards.

ELOVACHILL – Refused to settle in the early stages when being restrained.

DODGE THE GREY – Apprentice D. Evans pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that passing the 200m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of JUST HUSTLED, which had to be checked and lost its rightful funning. D. Evans was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 3 Central Queensland meetings, to commence at midnight, Saturday, 23 May and to expire at midnight, Friday, 5 June.

When questioned regarding the poor performance, apprentice jockey D. Evans stated the gelding travelled comfortably throughout, however approaching the home turn was held up on the heels of a weakening runner, and when placed under pressure in the straight failed to respond, which he attributed to the 63 kilogram weight impost.

After riding in this race, D. Evans became ill and was stood down for the remainder of the day. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. Stewards advised D. Evans he must provide a medical clearance.

Apprentice Orman was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 5 Queensland meetings, to commence at midnight, 15 May and to expire at midnight, 24 May. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account J. Orman’s exemplary record in relation to this rule.

CROTCHET – When questioned regarding her mount settling near the lead, apprentice F. Elliott stated she had been instructed to ride the gelding back from its wide draw and in accordance with its established race pattern, however after beginning well and rather than being caught wide she elected to ride her mount forward in an endeavour to find a position closer to the fence where the gelding travelled well for the remainder of the race.
