Race 2: Adrian Coome Jockey of the Year Class 3 Plate - 1050 metres
1st TESTATIME 2nd PRELUSIVE STRIKE 3rd PRINCE DAN 4th - COVENTRY

The declaration of correct weight was delayed while stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey D. Simmons, the rider of COVENTRY which finished 4th, against PRELUSIVE STRIKE (App. R. Payne) being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final 100 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the patrol videos and taking into account their own observations, stewards established that approaching the 100 metres PRELUSIVE STRIKE shifted in towards COVENTRY, which shifted in away from that runner towards the running rail and became unbalanced. As stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that PRELUSIVE STRIKE had impeded the running of COVENTRY, the objection was dismissed, the judge's placings ordered to stand and correct weight was declared.

PERFECT RAINBOW - Slipped behind badly on jumping and lost ground. Raced in restricted room over the final stages.

WILDEBEAST - Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and bumped another runner. Raced ungenerously in the early stages and made the first turn, near the 700 metres, awkwardly.

PIT BOSS - On returning to scale Jockey J. P. Stanley reported that his mount was inclined to lay in throughout the event.

MIDNIGHT STALKER - Jockey S. Sheargold pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that rounding the turn near the 700 metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of TESTATIME, which was taken in across the running of MANDALONG PASS, which was checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey Sheargold was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 NQ and CQ meetings, to commence at midnight on 1st August 2015 up to and including midnight on 14th August 2015. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Sheargold's good record in regard to the Rule.

GREAT PRETENDER - Began awkwardly.

AUTHENTIC SWING - Pulled hard in the early and middle stages and refused to settle.

BEG PARDON - When questioned regarding his riding, Jockey M. Abe stated that after rearing at the start he elected to take up a rearward position, where the gelding raced comfortably throughout. He said that approaching the home turn, rather than cover excessive ground and improve around the outside, he elected to remain racing close to the running rail. He added that after straightening he was continually held up and unable to obtain clear running until near the 50 metres, where the gelding worked home well. The explanations were noted.

OUR HUSSLER - Jockey D. Green was reprimanded under A.R. 137A(4)(b) for using his whip on the gelding above shoulder height.

Jockey M. Abe, the rider of MIGHTY BENDER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that passing the 200 metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ELJAY ATOM (App. J. Orman), which clipped the heels of MIGHTY BENDER and almost fell. Jockey Abe was suspended from riding immediately up until midnight on 13th August 2015. In assessing penalty stewards took into account the high degree of carelessness involved. A post-race veterinary examination of ELJAY ATOM did not reveal any abnormalities.
