Race 1: MTC Melbourne Cup Auction September 15 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st MORE THAN A SONG 2nd MARINA SANDS 3rd VO HEART 4th - SHEKOU

Stewards questioned trainer M. Dale regarding the acceptance and scratching of TESTATIME. Mr Dale explained that it had been his intention to run only TESTATIME in this race, however when the Lightning Handicap programmed for Townsville was transferred, he elected to add VO HEART to the field as a late nomination. He added that when TESTATIME had inadvertently received a routine treatment during the week, he elected to scratch the gelding. The explanation was noted.
Approaching the winning post Apprentice N. Summers allowed MARINA SANDS to shift out under pressure, carrying VO HEART (J. P. Stanley) out onto SHEKOU (A. Spinks), which became awkward on the heels of MORE THAN A SONG (J. Felix). App. Summers was advised to exercise more care in future.

PRIME SEQUAL - Prior to the race the gelding, which was resuming from a lengthy spell, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to take its place in the field.

DOOM CITY DRAGON - Raced keenly in the early stages. Passing the 200 metres bumped by another runner, which shifted out.

JEWELLERY THIEF - Passing the 200 metres shifted out in search of clear running and bumped another runner. Over the concluding stages shied away from the winning post and placed its rider at a disadvantage.

SNIPAROSE - When questioned regarding the poor performance, Jockey S.Galloway explained that in his opinion the mare does not run a strong 1560 metres and is better suited in races over a shorter distance. He added that the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr W. Pomfrett said that the mare will now be spelled.

MORE VALUE - A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which weakened over the concluding stages, did not reveal any abnormalities.

MOLONGLE CHIEF - On returning to scale Jockey J. Felix reported that the gelding hung out throughout the event.

Race 6: Macdougal Class 6 Plate - 1300 metres

CYCLONE KAN - Prior to the race connections advised stewards that the gelding will be ridden with cover. Settled off pace.

MISTER BOOZE - Connections advised stewards that, from its wide barrier draw, the gelding will be ridden further back in the field. Trainer P. Fleming reported that the gelding was kicked by another runner in the float en route to the course. MISTER BOOZE was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Settled 4 wide in the lead without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding when it was announced that it would be ridden further back, App. Darren Evans explained that after beginning awkwardly his mount then raced keenly when runners improved to his inside. When asked as to whether there was an opportunity to make more of an effort to restrain his mount, in an attempt to obtain cover behind another runner, he said that he was unable to do this as the gelding was racing too keenly. App. Evans stated that passing the 600 metres his mount was still racing keenly, resulting in him racing wider on the track than had been anticipated. Trainer Mr P. Fleming concurred with the view of the stewards that Apprentice Evans, after beginning awkwardly, should have made a greater attempt to comply with his instructions and obtain cover. The explanations were noted.

COUSIN ANDY - Slow to begin.

RHYTHM 'N' RAP - Raced keenly in the early stages.
