GENERAL
Stewards intend to inquire into the circumstances regarding trainer’s T Button, R Chillemi, J Wigginton and T Bourke being late to arrive on course with their respective runners for Race four.

Race 1: CELEBRATING RILEY'S 30TH BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1100 metres

DAWN TOO GOOD – Bounded away at the start. Laid inwards over the final stages.

VAST KAMA – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

HAALAN – Slow to begin. Shifted ground final stages to obtain clear racing room.

TAPTHETILL – Raced three wide with cover through the early stages before improving wider on the bend. Laid inwards in the home straight.

CLIFTON COUNTY – Raced keenly through the early stages.

Race 2: MTC 100 CLUB MEMBERS Class 3 Plate 1300 metres

SCHAPPOSE (NZ) – Begun awkwardly and was slow to begin. Apprentice rider A Donald was spoken to advisedly for education purposes to ensure she rides her mounts out fully to the finish line.

LIFETIME QUEST – Rider C Spry was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on two more occasions than permitted prior to the 100m.

I LOVE THIS HIPPY – Held up for racing room prior to the home straight.

VALIDAR – Impeded at the start. Raced three wide without cover through the early and middle stages.

ZEBLAN – Over raced through the early stages and became awkwardly placed on the heels of I LOVE THIS HIPPY.

BELLARINE – Shifted outwards at the start impeding VALIDAR

EXELANT MOSH – Stewards permitted C Whiteley to ride the gelding .5kg over its carded weight.

Race 3: STARCUT FLOWERS OPEN Handicap 1300 metres

LAST CHANCE – Brushed with the tiring MORENO near the 100m.

ABSOLUT ARTIE – Begun awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding trainer R Vale expressed he was disappointed with the run as he was expecting a prominent performance. He added he was expecting ABSOLUTE ARTIE to lead or settle closer to the tearaway leader but after being slower away than usual this had not suited its usual racing pattern. Mr Vale stated ABSOLUT ARTIE had worked well in the lead up to the race, had pulled up well following the event and he was intending to have bloods taking in the coming days and he would advise the Stewards of the results.

BARACHIEL – Slow to begin.

BRAD – Held up through the early stages of the home straight. Laid inwards in the straight.

MORENO (NZ) – Laid outwards in the home straight. Brushed with LAST CHANCE near the 100m when tiring. The Stewards questioned rider C Jokic regarding the tactics she adopted on MORENO after she led by a considerable margin over the middle stages of the race. Ms Jokic advised she was instructed to lead and let MORENO roll along as was its usual racing pattern. She was advised the gelding resented being restrained as it was prone to choking down. She stated she had taken a slight hold of the gelding however it had continued to race keenly, and she allowed to it roll along as she did not want to restrain MORENO and cause it to choke down. Trainer W Pomfrett confirmed the instructions given to Ms Jokic and that the gelding was prone to choking down if restrained too hard, however he was surprised with the lead it had established during the running. Mr Pomfrett was not disappointed with the run as he believed the 1300m journey may have been at the extent of MORENO’S preferred racing distance. After considering the explanation of Ms Jokic and Mr Pomfrett the Stewards deemed no further action was warranted.

HEYINGTON – Stewards accepted trainer R Binder’s explanation for S Sheargold being a late rider declaration.

Race 4: NORTHERN JEWEL QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap 1300 metres

ROLLINWITHTHEFLOW – Raced keenly early stages.

CRACKER ESSGEE – Raced keenly over the early stages.

ROBIG – Restrained approaching the 1000m when ROLLINWITHTHEFLOW shifted ground inwards. The Stewards questioned riders S Wilson and A Butler regarding the incident. After hearing evidence from both riders it was established ROLLINWITHTHEFLOW had shifted inwards simultaneously as CRACKER ESSGEE was restrained in front of it and COOL HARD FACT had rolled off the fence marginally causing ROBIG to restrain. Rider S Wilson advised ROBIG had also been over racing in the lead up which had contributed to the incident. After considering the evidence the Stewards could not be satisfied the incident could be solely placed on rider A Butler and no further action was taken.

MAGIC IN ME – Bucked shortly after the start and failed to finish. Trainer G Schwenke was advised the gelding was required to complete a satisfactory trial.

MISS LOT WON – Begun awkwardly and had to ease off heels shortly after the start.

AERIAL COMBAT – Stewards authorised G Kliese to ride AERIAL COMBAT 1kg overweight due to no other available rider. Raced wide throughout.

BITTERGREYMAGIC – Raced wide and keenly over the early stages.

THE SILVER LADY – Had to be steadied shortly after the start when racing on heels.

THAT'LL BE THE DAY – Raced wide without cover over the early and middle stages.

PARA PARK – Over raced early stages.

MISSY MILE – Held up early stages of home straight before shifting ground outwards to obtain clear racing room near the 250m.

Race 5: TAB AMATEUR CUP OPEN Handicap 1800 metres

BEST HOFFA – Raced three wide without cover over the early stages.

CLEO'S POET – Raced keenly when leading through the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed CLEO’S POET had shown signs of thumps with the connections advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding resuming racing.

ROCCO – Held up over the early stages of the home straight before being angled wider on the track for clear racing room. G Kliese was suspended for a period of eight days from midnight 3rd of June to midnight 11th of June 2021 for using his whip excessively pursuant to AR132(5).

TUNERO – Blundered near the 1400m when racing to the inside of BEST HOFFA (M Potgieter) which was racing to its outside. The Stewards intend to enquire in relation to this incident due to Mr Potgieter having left the course to catch a scheduled flight. TUNERO was treated on course post-race after showing signs of lameness with a veterinary clearance required prior to the gelding resuming racing.

ELECTRIFIED – Over raced through the early stages. S Sheargold was fined $300 for retuning to scale in excess of .5kg overweight. Mr Sheargold was also fined a further $500 for a suspended penalty imposed for a two-year period from a breach of the same Rule AR211(1) from Rockhampton on the 27th of February 2020.
`
VERBALIZER (NZ) – Dipped on jumping. Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. Trainer M Bannon was fined $100 pursuant to LR67 for the late notification of rider Z Lloyd. Mr Bannon was also reprimanded for failing to scratch dual acceptor VERBALISER prior to 5.00pm on acceptance day under LR36(6).

LEFKAS ISLAND – When questioned regarding the improved performance of LEFKAS ISLAND trainer O Cairns advised it was a drop in class and the opposition was not as strong as previous races and she was not surprised with the forward showing.

BEHIKE – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted outwards onto CELEBRATION DAY. Raced in restricted room through the early and middle stages of the home straight.

CELEBRATION DAY – Impeded by BEHIKE at the start. Over raced through the early and middle stages skying its head on several occasions. Laid inwards near the 300m and was awkwardly placed on heels.
