SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Mackay 10 November 2022 – Jockey Nathan Day was reminded of his obligations regarding comments he made about whip use when being interviewed subsequent to the running of race 9. Mr Day’s initial comments could be perceived to have a negative impact on the industry; however, it was noted that he quickly retracted the statement and provided information regarding appropriate whip use. In electing to take this course of action, stewards were satisfied that the jockey’s whip use on the day was within the accepted guidelines, industry requirements and his overall good record in relation to whip use.
 
 
GENERAL
Overweight permitted as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Due to Jockey Jackson Murphy encountering airline delays, Jade Doolan was the approved replacement rider on EDDYSTONE in race 1 at half a kilogram overweight. (No other suitable rider available)
 
Trainer Tom Smith was fined $100 under LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dually accepted SIRENE by the prescribed time. In issuing this penalty stewards were mindful that the trainer was overseas and there was a communication breakdown between him and his staff. Stewards also considered Mr Smith’s clear record.
 
Race 1: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY Maiden Handicap 1560 metres
 
KAYE OH – Bumped on jumping.
 
JANOSIK (NZ) – Slow to begin.Jockey Jason Taylor reported that the mare travelled well during the run however when placed under pressure proved to be slightly disappointing over the concluding stages.
 
EDDYSTONE – Required resaddling prior to the start. Raced wide over the early stages. Shifted in rounding the first turn briefly tightening ARMEE ADMIRAL. Apprentice Jade Doolan reported that her saddle slipped in the early stages placing her at a disadvantage thereafter.
 
ARMEE ADMIRAL – Bumped on jumping. Raced in restricted room and briefly tightened, when approaching the course proper near the 1400m.
 
 
Race 2: SMARTSTATE RENTALS BM65 Handicap 1560 metres
 
ROCK 'N' SOL – Jockey Ashley Butler advised that the gelding failed to travel well throughout the run and proved to be disappointing. An intended post-race veterinary examination was unable to be conducted as the horse had left the course. Trainer Tim Cook was reminded of his obligations with regard to horses remaining on course for the appropriate amount of time.
 
SHADOW GODDESS – Slow to begin. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
A FIGHTING FURY – Raced wide during the initial stages.
 
BOOM GATE – Slow to begin and was bumped on jumping.
 
THE DRILLER – Raced wide over the early and middle stages.
 
ELLE A WALKING – Slow to begin and was then bumped after the start. Cast the off-fore shoe at about the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor soreness to the off foreleg, however considering the gelding cast a shoe no stand down was issued.
 
ENUFF HE SAID – Raced wide early stages. Jockey Justin Stanley advised that the gelding commenced to hang out from the 600m and proved difficult to ride out over the concluding stages.
 
 
Race 3: SHEDS & GARAGES MACKAY QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden
Handicap 1100 metres
 
The start of this race was delayed for approximately 4 minutes due to the barriers having to be repositioned on the course proper prior to the start as there was insufficient room between the barriers and the inside running rail.
 
QUEST OF QUESTS – Held up for clear running until leaving the 250m.
 
CORABETTY – Raced erratically over the early stages before bucking and dislodging apprentice O Kendal. Ms Kendal was examined by QAS officers and was transported to hospital for assessment. Trainer Kevin Miller was advised the filly was stood down until it completes two satisfactory consecutive trials. Mr Miller advised it was his intention to retire CORABETTY from his stable.
 
MIA'S DREAM – Raced wide over the early stages.
 
TORQUE IS SAVVY – Slow to begin and trailed the field throughout by a considerable distance. The connections were advised the filly was stood down from TAB meetings until such time the filly performs competitively at Non-TAB meetings.
 
TWISTED SISTER – Raced greenly throughout.
 
NAUGHTY POSSUM – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.Trailed the field throughout by a considerable distance. Connections were advised that the filly has been stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial.
 
 
Race 4:  MANDY ATHERTON - PROFESSIONALS RENTALS & SALES
MACKAY Class 6 Handicap 1300 metres
The rescheduled start time for this race was 3.30pm. The start was delayed slightly due to Apprentice Brooke Johnson having to re-weigh and claim her full allowance after originally claiming the allowance of the replaced rider Olivia Kendal.
 
AGE OF INNOCENCE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
MAGNETIC DRIVE – Over raced through the early stages.
 
HILVERSTON – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to muster early speed. Laid in against the efforts of the rider and tightened BOLD ZIP on its inside.
 
BOLD ZIP – Momentarily tightened rounding the home turn when HILVERSTON laid in against the efforts of the rider.
 
 
Race 5: LEKETEK ELECTRICIANS OPEN Handicap 1200 metres
 
CABALO ESCURO – Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
MOCIAL CHIEF – Raced briefly in restricted room near the 900m when laying outwards while being crossed by PENASQUITO.
 
FLY FOR YULONG (IRE) – Rider Ryan Wiggins advised that his mount proved to be disappointing, and he could offer no tangible reason. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
FRATELLINO – Raced wide through the early stages.Hung in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
ZIPSPUR – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance trainer Joshua Manzelmann advised the gelding has been beaten narrowly in recent starts and appreciated the prevailing softer conditions.
 
 
Race 6: ENLIGHTENED FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS BM55 Handicap 1200 metres
 
GRACIOUS GARCON – Tightened and checked for room near the 250m when BRIDEZILLA (NZ) shifted out under pressure and HARVESTA was carried inwards by DIRTY OR DRY.
 
HARVESTA – Near the 250m was impeded and carried inwards when DIRTY AND DRY shifted in under pressure.
 
JABALI GOLD – Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.
 
DENIMS – Raced wide throughout. Jockey Ryan Wiggins was fined $500 (11th offence) under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
THE GRADUATE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
BRIDEZILLA (NZ) – Slow to begin. Shifted outwards near the 250m when under the whip, resulting in GRACIOUS GARCON being tightened and checked. Apprentice Jade Doolan was advised that she must stop riding and straighten her mounts under similar circumstances. In not taking further action stewards were satisfied that an inwards shift from runners to the outside of GRACIOUS GARCON contributed to this incident.
 
DIRTY OR DRY – Raced wide over the early stages. Shifted in under pressure near the 250m carrying HARVESTA inwards. Apprentice Emily Lang was advised that she must stop riding and straighten her mounts in similar circumstances.
 
 
Race 7: RACING AGAIN TUES 6TH DEC Class 3 Plate 1050 metres
 
ALLANON – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result.
 
NOR FORCE – Bumped over the final stages by POET’S GIRL.
 
POET'S GIRL – Laid outwards over the final stages bumping with NOR FORCE.
 
SUNDARA – Slow into stride.
 
WIT – Raced wide throughout. Trainer Tracy Simmons advised that she attributed the seemingly improved performance to the mare being able to obtain a trouble-free run whereas in most recent starts WIT has not endured any luck when being beaten by relatively narrow margins.
 
FINAL CRIME – Apprentice Alisha Donald reported that the mare was reluctant to stretch out during the early stages.
 
 
Race 8: ALLAN MCLAUCHLAN MEMORIAL BM60 Handicap 1800 metres
 
 
BONDURANT – Bumped at the start.
 
OPINIONS – Bumped at the start.
 
STAR OF LEON – Over raced noticeably during the early stages
 
GRANT'S PATCH – Raced fiercely over the early and middle stages. Caught wide before being obtaining cover near the 1100m.
 
MILKY ROCKET – Improve wide middle stages. Hung in under pressure over the final 300m.
 
HYPERION STAR (NZ) – Slow to begin.
