Race 1: MORVEN RACE CLUB/SOUTH WEST FUELS BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1000M
1st – TORERO 2nd – CONFIDENT STAR 3rd – WIGPOOL 4th – COUNTY GOLD

TALKING NONSENSE – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.

CRYSTAL MATES – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

SECRETS REVEALED – Tightened for room at the start.

ASTRONOMER – Began awkwardly.

CONFIDENT STAR – Apprentice A. Spinks reported he dropped his whip near the 100m.


Race 2: RACING QLD/DELFORCE & SULLIVAN TRANSPORT QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
1st – SUGAR DOLL 2nd – IRISH DARK 3rd – READY FOR ROYALTY 4th – ECHELON ANNIE

The start of this race was delayed when DING DONG, which was fractious, became cast in the mounting yard. DING DONG was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 1.40pm. All monies invested on DING DONG were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable:

0 cents in the dollar for the winner #10
4 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #10
4 cents in the dollar for second place #8
5 cents in the dollar for third place #4

Starting prices are not subject to deductions.

Trainer T. Mead was advised that DING DONG would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to racing again.

Jockey D. Brown, rider of DING DONG, was treated by the on course ambulance officers and subsequently transported to hospital. D. Brown was advised he would need to provide a medical clearance prior to riding again.

BUCKSTAR – Slow to begin.

READY FOR ROYALTY – Difficult to load. Trainer K. Waller was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding. Slow to begin.

MURTIBELLA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 3: CLIPEX ‘FRED BALLINGALL MEMORIAL’ CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M
1st – MURPHY’S COAL DUST 2nd – GOLD BONANZA 3rd – WONGARANDA 4th – MAGIC GLENYCE

The start of this race was delayed when FLYING BLU GIRL was unable to be loaded. FLYING BLU GIRL was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 2.58pm. All monies invested on FLYING BLU GIRL were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:

0 cents in the dollar for the winner #2
9 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #2
5 cents in the dollar for second place #4
11 cents in the dollar for third place #5

Trainer P. Townsend was advised he will need to obtain a further barrier certificate for FLYING BLU GIRL prior to the mare racing again.

ZERZURA – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

ZAPATA FALLS – Slow to begin.

Race 4: MORGAN PASTORAL ‘DOUG UTTING MEMORIAL’ CLASS B H’CAP – 1400M
1st – JANDY GIRL 2nd – ZAHA COUNTY 3rd – JIMNA 4th – LUCKY SKY

DANE’S ROCKET – Slow to begin.

FASTPITCH – Shifted in near the 1000m and bumped another runner. Jockey C. Rodgers reported the gelding raced ungenerously throughout and was difficult to steer. She added that in her opinion the gelding did not handle today’s tight track. Trainer R. Frazer was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of FASTPITCH.

DESTINY’S DESIRE – Bumped near the 1000m.

TAVY NIGHTS – Eased when racing in restricted room near the 1000m.


Race 5: CURLEY CATTLE TPT ‘IAN SHEPPARD MEMORIAL’ MORVEN CUP OPEN H’CAP – 1400M
1st – GARDER LA FOI 2nd – BELLE EXPRESS 3rd – PROJECT COMPASSION 4th – HELLUVA HURRY

BILLY GOAT – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, apprentice B. Newport reported that the gelding travelled well throughout and finished strongly, however was unable to make up sufficient ground after being held up until near the 150m. Stewards noted the explanation.

GARDER LA FOI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 6: MORVEN RACE CLUB SUPPORTERS BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1800M
1st – TOUCAN UKELELE 2nd – BANNER 3rd – EASY TO SMILE 4th – EMOTIONAL OUTBURST

EMOTIONAL OUTBURST – Tightened for room at the start.

DASHINGLY – Began awkwardly. Hung in in the early stages.

NORTHERN MAGIC – Raced in restricted room for a short distance shortly after the start.

BUTCHER BOY – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey C. Bryen reported the gelding resented the kickback and was inclined to hang out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

BANNER – Apprentice L. Tilley was issued with a severe reprimand for raising his whip above shoulder height.
