GENERAL
Due to the state of the track in the area of the 1200m chute where the barriers would normally be placed after consultation with Club, RQ Officials and Trainers, Stewards ordered the distance be amended to approximately 1150m.
Race 1: WESTLINK PETROLEUM FRED BALLINGAL & DOUG UTTING MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000m.
PRINCE PLANET- Declared a late scratching at 11.10am due to no rider being available.
ROGUE STAR- Began awkwardly and bumped TROMMELSCHLAGEN shortly after the start.
TROMMELSCHLAGEN- Began okay then was bumped by another runner to its outside, became unbalanced and lost ground. Approaching the 900m point when trying to improve the gelding attempted to buck losing further ground eventually being tailed off and being uncompetitive from that point. Stewards acting under AR75(1)(b) informed Trainer M Patterson that a Warning would be placed on the horse for its racing manners.
KING CONI- Was slow into stride and raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: SHERIDAN DELFORCE TRANSPORT RATINGS BAD 0- 50 HANDICAP 1000m.
SOLARCH- Began awkwardly at the start and bumped RIPOVA.
GILLICKS WAY- Proved difficult to load. Jockey L Miller was reprimanded by Stewards under AR132(7) (a) (1) for his use of the whip consecutively on two occasions prior to the 100m. Further, Jockey Miller was reprimanded by Stewards under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted.
BEGIN- Raced wide with no cover for the majority of the event.
THE LANDING- Raced towards the tail of the field from the 600m for the remainder of the event.
RIPOVA- Was bumped by another runner shortly after the start and lost ground. Then raced at the tail of the tail of the field for the majority of the event.
HOT CHOCOLATE- Declared a late scratching by Stewards at 11.35am due to no rider being available.
LITTLE WAND- Declared a late scratching by Stewards at 11.10am due to no rider being available.
Race 3: MORGAN PASTORAL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1150M
MAX N MAT- Proved difficult to load delaying the start. Acting under AR75(1)(b) Stewards advised Trainer K McGovern that a Warning would be placed on the horse for its barrier manners.
PUCKER UP PALMER- Faulted in its action after the winning post, a post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse had sustained a severe injury to the near side fetlock joint. After consultation with the Trainer L McGee, the Gelding was subsequently euthanised by the attending Veterinarian acting on humane grounds.
After the running of Race 3 Stewards requested the Club perform remedial work to the track surface to improve the consistency which was subsequently carried out to a satisfactory standard.
Race 4: CNH TRANSPORT HOMES BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1400M
WITHOUT CHOICE- Slow to begin.
ORDESA- A BAKOS- Slow to begin. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Trainer G Pegg made application for his horse to be declared a non-runner due to the allocated barrier failing to open and the horse not afforded a fair start. After viewing the race day footage and hearing evidence from all parties the Stewards Acting under AR 204(1)(c) were of the opinion that the Mare was denied a fair start as its barrier failed to open with the remainder of the field. ORDESA was subsequently declared a late scratching, with all monies invested as a result of the scratching were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable on bets placed on the winner CADOUIN Win- 11c, Place- 10c, 2nd placing FUNKY FARM - 17c and 3rd placing- AURIC GOLD- 17c. Stewards then declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. Subsequent to the running of the event the Mare suffered an acute attack of intestinal Volvulus (Colic) and subsequently succumbed to the condition whilst undergoing Veterinary treatment.
Race 5: CURLEY CATTLE TRANSPORT MORVEN CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1400M
LUBUK- Began well taking a forward position on the rails, began to lose ground from the 600m point. At that point it began faltering in its action and was eventually pulled out of the race by its rider prior to entering the home straight and failed to finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse had sustained a severe injury to the near side forelimb. LUBUK was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds by the attending Veterinarian.
ESKADALE GIRL- Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
TANGO TINO- Slow into stride at the start.
RACE 6 SHEPPARD FAMILY MEMORIAL MORVEN RACE CLUB SUPPORTERS BENCHMARK 55HANDICAP 1800M
THE SABBATH- Acting under AR190(3) Stewards fined Jockey L Miller the sum of $200 for accepting a ride while being overweight. He was subsequently replaced by Jockey S McGovern.
Abandoned Race 6 after consultation with Riders, Trainers, Club Officials. It was determined that the section of the track surface between the 800m and the 200m had deteriorated as the meeting had progressed and was no longer suitable for racing.
