Race 1: Frank Vitale Memorial QTIS Maiden Plate 1010 metres:
1st – IZZY’S KEEPER 2nd – PHANTOM SOX 3rd – RAKADAN 4th – CLASSIC BURLESQUE

IZZY’S KEEPER – Was slowly away. Was inclined to lay in momentarily under pressure near the 100 metres. Quickly straightened. Jockey W D’Avila reported that he lost his whip soon after the start.

MONASHEE LASS – Began awkwardly after making contact with barrier upright. Slowly into stride. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had sustained an injury to the near hind leg. Trainer Mr J Williams was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare being permitted to race again.

RAKADAN – Shifted out across the heels of another runner in an attempt to obtain clear running near the 200 metres. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages. On returning to scale Jockey K Rockett made application to view the patrol footage of the final stages of the event and after doing so advised Stewards that he wished to lodge protests against both the 1st placegetter IZZY’S KEEPER and the 2nd placegetter PHANTOM SOX on the grounds of alleged interference near the 200 metres. After hearing evidence from all parties and reviewing patrol footage Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any ground lost by RAKADAN when attempting a marginal run between IZZY’S KEEPER and PHANTOM SOX exceeded the margins which separated the placegetters at the finish. Subsequently both protests were dismissed and the judges placings stood.

Race 2: Mareeba Mazda Benchmark 65 Handicap 900 metres:
1st – ARMY OF ONE 2nd – SIGNIFICANT CHOICE 3rd – MASTER DANNY 4th – DRAGON ACE

DRAGON ACE – Began awkwardly with its head in the air. Was inclined to race ungenerously in the early stages.

BAZZA’S BID – Checked near the 800 metres. S Kaya the rider of ARMY OF ONE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in near the 800 metres resulting in BAZZA’S BID being checked. Stewards subsequently suspended his licence to ride in races for a period of one (1) meeting to commence midnight 9 August 2015 and expire midnight 15 August 2015. In assessing penalty Stewards were mindful that although there was no doubt that Jockey S Kaya did allow his mount to shift in at that point they were also mindful of the positioning of the barriers at the 900 metres start in relation to the contour of the running rail where the field joins the course proper.

MONASHEE SUCCESS – Had to be restrained when racing tight between runners near the 500 metres turn.

GENERAL BEEJAY – Shifted out marginally rounding the turn near the 500 metres. Rider advised to exercise more care.

SIGNIFICANT CHOICE - Shifted in marginally rounding the turn near the 500 metres. Rider advised to exercise more care.

Race 3: Jockey Celebration Day 2015 Class B Handicap 1210 metres:
1st – ROUND THE CORNER 2nd – MR WRECKER 3rd – RACING IN THE WIND 4th – SPIN AGAIN

RACING IN THE WIND – Was slowly away.

SPIN AGAIN – Was slow to muster early pace.

KANA AKA – Had to steadied near the 200 metres when racing to the inside of a tiring runner which shifted in marginally.

PUB THUG – Shifted in marginally near the 200 metres when tiring. Rider advised to exercise more care.

LADY BULLMORE – A post race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had sustained an injury to the near fore leg. Trainer Mr R Nelson was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare being permitted to race again.

Race 4: Color Studio Class 4 Handicap 1210 metres:
1st – GUNDY STAR 2nd – POPULAR BELIEF 3rd – FIRMITAS 4th – TIERES ROCK

AIR OF HEAVEN – Was withdrawn at the barriers at 3:23pm after refusing to load. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on the mare be refunded in full and further that all successful wagers placed on the event prior to 3:23pm be subject to deductions of 14 cents win and 13 cents place. Trainer Ms J Ball was advised that the mare would be required to obtain one (1) further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again.

POPULAR BELIEF – Had to be steadied after improving onto heels near the 500 metres.Was held up for clear running approaching the home turn.

Race 5: Ian Johns Builder Benchmark 5 Handicap 1500 metres:
1st – FRUMBOLI 2nd – PEMBERTON 3rd – KING OF THEBES 4th – SILVER STAR

KING OF THEBES – Was slowly away.

NORTHERN THEATRE – Was slowly into stride. Raced ungenerously for the majority of the event. Trainer Mr R Nelson was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare for poor performance and that should the mare perform in a similar manner in the future it would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

PEMBERTON – Shifted out across heels near the 100 metres to obtain clear running.
