GENERAL:
 
As apprentice K. Swaffer was not riding at today’s meeting due to injury, riding replacements were made as per steward’s summary.  
 
Race 1: WELCOME TO MAREEBA TURF CLUB BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 900 Metres
 
ELITE JET – Jockey F. Edwards was permitted to ride the gelding 3kg over its allotted weight as no other rider was available. This was advised via the oncourse broadcast. Slow into stride. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages proving difficult to ride out. Raced wide for the majority of the race.  
 
MCKENZIE WILL DO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages.  
 
INSTITUTION – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
COOL ATTITUDE – Steadied off heels approaching the home turn.

Race 2: THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS MAIDEN PLATE – 1123 Metres
 
GREYSERENE – Fractious in the barriers, began very awkwardly and lost ground.  
 
MY SISTER SAL – Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the early and middle stages. Shifted out near the 1000 metres momentarily forcing SHE’S A SINNER wider.   
 
SHE'S A SINNER – Forced wider momentarily near the 1000 metres.  
 
SPLASH OF PAINT – Hung out rounding the home turn shifting wider on the track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be shin sore. Trainer P. Rowe advised SPLASH OF PAINT would be sent for an immediate spell. Mr Rowe was advised that should the filly race inside of six weeks a veterinary clearance would be required.  
 
Race 3: HIRE THE VENUE BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP – 1210 Metres
 
SUNNY COWBOY – Slow to begin.  
 
KONNICHIWA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post- race recovery. Trainer P. Rowe was a advised a veterinary certificate of soundness must be provided prior to its next race start.    
 
VARSITY – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
Race 4: 2021 BATTLE OF THE BUSH MAREEBA QUALIFIER OPEN HANDICAP – 1210 Metres
 
DREAM I CAN – Slow to begin.
 
HIT SNOOZE – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.  
 
THE GROOM – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding identified the presence of blood in both nostrils. THE GROOM shall not without the permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward. AR79(4)
 
Race 5: OWNERS & TRAINERS BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP – 1500 Metres
 
RACORZA – Slow to begin.

SHE BEATS THE BEST – Slow to begin.
 
IN WAVES (NZ) – Shifted in making heavy contact with the inside running rail near the 750 metre and lost its rhythm finishing tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed muscle soreness to its off shoulder. Trainer P. Rowe was a advised a veterinary certificate of soundness must be provided prior to its next race start.
