Race 2: CLASS B HANDICAP. 900 Metres: (8 Starters).
1st – DOLLARISE 2nd – STARLET 3rd – STARZOU 4th - VILLAINOUS LASS

On returning to scale T. Chambers the rider of the third placegetter STARLET lodged an objection against STARZOU (K. Ballard) being declared the second place getter, alleging interference near the 700m. After hearing evidence from both riders and viewing patrol footage of the incident, it was established that near the 700m STARZOU had shifted inwards when not sufficiently clear, resulting in Starlet having to be eased and lose ground. As Stewards were of the opinion that the incident had cost STARLET more than the head margin which separated the two runners at the finish the objection was upheld, and the official placings amended to read 1st DOLLARISE 2nd STARLET 3rd STARZOU. At a subsequent inquiry K. Ballard pleaded guilty to a charge of Careless Riding (AR 137(a). In considering penalty Stewards took into account Jockey Ballard’s guilty plea as well as his excellent record in relation to offences of this nature. Consequently Stewards issued K Ballard with a severe reprimand.

STARLET - Stewards permitted T. Chambers to ride the mare one kilogram overweight. Lost ground near the 700m when tightened by another runner. Raced wide rounding the 600 metre turn. A post race veterinary examination revealed a superficial injury to off hind leg.
