Race 1 – National Jockey Celebration Day Benchmark 45 Handicap (1450m)

FIRE RANGER- Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly on jumping making heavy contact with AUNTY SNOW (T Brummell), taking that runner in across the running of UNDER RESTRAINT ( S Mossman), before bumping with AL MAH ROCKET.  Trainer T Parry was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners.

AUNTY SNOW- Commenced to loose ground noticably from the 600m and performed disapointingly. Jockey T Brumell advised that after beginning on terms with the field the mare sufferred interference shortly after the start and as such settled further back than was his intention. Jockey Brummell also advised that passing the 600m he believes his mare to have resented the heavy sand kick-back and lost ground as a result. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

UNDER RESTRAINT- Obliged to restrain when crossed by another runner which shifted out on jumping.  Raced wide throughout.

AL MAH ROCKET- Stewards queried the performance of the gelding. Jockey Esser advised that his instructions had been to begin well and obtain a positive position near the lead, however after being slow to begin the gelding had failed to respond to his early urgings and resented the kick-back in running before finishing off fairly when clear running presented in the home straight. Trainer Mr R Burrows confirmed the instructions and advised he believed the gelding may be coming to the end of his preparation and he would assess its immediate future after seeing how the horse recovered after todays race. Stewards noted the explanations. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 2 – Maiden Plate (900m)

The start was delayed when ARIZONA SUN proved reluctant to move to the barriers before refusing to load. The gelding was subsequently declared a Late scratching at 12:30 pm. As there was no betting on todys meeting no deductions were applicable. Trainer Mr G Tipping was advised the gelding would be required to complete three (3) consecutive satisfactory trials in the presence of a Steward prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

MISS VALLETTA- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

MATCHBOX- Bumped with another runner on jumping and shifted out.

WORLD OF PAIN- Buped with another runner on jumping. Took the 600m turn awkwardly and shifted out. Shifted out abruptly and commenced to race ungenerously for a short distance passing the 200m. Jockey K Ballard reported that he believed the gelding to have shyed at the running rail.

DAN- Momentarily hampered by another runner which shifted in passing the winning post.

ALOTAFOX- Raced wide throughout.

Race 6 – Ratings Band 0-60 Handicap (1200m)

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Trainer Miss T Parry for the late declaration of riders on IMAPOET and MAKATITI. None the less, Miss Parry was reminded of her obligations under the provisions of LR67(3).

IMAPOET- Slow to begin. Shifted out on jumping. Raced wide throughout.

DIXIE ROUGE- Shifted in on jumping.

LORD WINDERMERE- Shifted in on jumping.

ROCK TSAR- Shifted in marginally passing the 600m.

MAKATITI- Stewards questioned Jockey Brummell concerning the tactics adopted on the gelding, particularly why he elected not to urge his mount forward in the early and middle stages when it appeared reasonable to do so in order to obtain a position along the inside running rail behind the leader. Jockey Brummell advised that after beginning well his mount only responded fairly to his efforts and approaching the 600m was obliged to steady momentarily when a runner to his outside shifted in. Jockey Brummell added that he believed his mount then resented the heavy kickback and lost ground, as a result he chose to shift wider to obtain clear running.  Stewards noted the explanation. Raced extremely wide from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow rider of 2nd place getter BACCHUR, Jockey T Hill, to view the photo finish. After viewing the official photo Jockey Hill was satisfied with the result and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.

Race 7 – Open Plate (1200m)

SNIPPY STRATEGIC- Shifted in on jumping tightening another runner.

CHARLIE CAT- Tightened between runners on jumping. After beginning on terms with the field struggled to muster the early speed needed to maintain its position and lost ground. Raced wide the majority. Jockey T Hill was cautioned for his use of the whip under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii), Stewards noted his exemplary record in relation to the rule.

SPLIT THE ATOM- After beginning on terms with the field struggled to muster the early speed needed to maintain its position and lost ground.
