GENERAL:

Apprentice jockey Ms A Van der Sanden notified stewards that she would not be riding at today’s meeting due to illness. Riding replacements were made as per summary of rider changes.

RACE 1: BURNETT LIVESTOCK & REALTY QTIS Maiden Plate 1000M

SMART ADVANCE – Checked on jumping by another runner.

CRAIGLEA DIAMOND – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with another runner.

LUCKY DIPPER – After beginning fairly was slow into stride and raced greenly in the early stages of the event.

LEILA’S CALL – Raced wide throughout the event.

MOLLARA – Slow to jump. Apprentice jockey Ms H English was questioned as to the tactics adopted. Ms English stated that after being slow away the mare got back a lot further than she would have liked. Given that this was the mare’s first start in a clockwise direction, the mare was having some difficulty getting around the corners and therefore Ms English was reluctant to push her along until after passing the 600m. When she did apply pressure the mare started to improve its position but then became unbalanced rounding the final two turns and after straightening finished the race off well. Trainer Mr G Richardson agreed with apprentice English’s comments and added that the mare did have a tendency to hang out in previous starts interstate and although disappointed that the mare got back so far early in the race he was happy with the mare’s finishing effort and in his opinion would be better suited to races over a longer journey. Stewards noted their explanations.

RACE 2: RUM CITY FOODS Class 3 Plate 1000M

The running of this race was delayed by 10 minutes due to an electrical storm in the area.

TIME TO SPARE – Raced wide throughout the event. Rider M Barnham reported that in his opinion the mare’s run was disappointing.

WHATEVER MISS - Raced wide throughout the event.

RACE 3: MRH LAWYERS Class B Handicap 1200M

METALLIC POINT - Slow into stride and raced wide over the final 700 metres.

SOMERSET DAWN – Slow into stride.

FLINDERS LUCK – Had to steady off heals at the 600m when racing keenly.

JUST LIKE ERROL – Had to steady off heels passing the 800m when racing keenly, and again had to be checked off heels at the 250m when disappointed for a run.

LE BASTILLE – Tired in the later stages of the event. Rider Ms K Gates reported that the gelding was breathing abnormally. Post-race the vet advised trainer Mr B Murray that the gelding would need an endoscopic examination. Mr B Murray advised that he will have the examination done and notify Stewards of the findings. Stewards advised Mr Murray that the gelding will be stood down from racing pending the results of the vet examination.

RACE 4: ORICA Benchmark 60 Handicap 1400M

Due to a looming electrical storm the start of this race was brought forward by 10 minutes.

CHERISHTHETHOUGHT – Fractious in the barriers.

COME BY OFTEN – Slow to jump.

FUNNY FELLOW – Raced wide over the final 800 metres.

PAGOH – Raced wide in the middle stages of the event.

MURRAMARANG - Accidentally struck over the head by the whip of another rider at the 150m.

WAY UP THERE – Raced wide over the final 600 metres.

RACE 5: EVOLUTION MINING MOUNT PERRY CUP OPEN Handicap 1400M

The start of this race was delayed by 10 minutes to allow the storm to pass and for a track inspection to be undertaken.

After significant rainfall, riders and stewards inspected the track, particularly at the point between the 600m and 500m. Stewards and riders were happy to proceed and the track was downgraded to a Soft 5 for this race.

ROYAL JESTER – Rider accidentally dropped the whip at the 550m.
