General: As App I Rabjones suffered an injury at trackwork this morning she was replaced in Race 1 on HEAVENLY GLASS by App J Philpot. App Rabjones will require a medical clearance prior to her next race ride.

The start of Race 1 was delayed when remedial work was carried out an outside section of the track near the 100 metres. This section of the track was again inspected following the event and prior to the running of Race 2.

RACE 1: MAIDEN PLATE 800 Metres

ADREAMS ASSURED – Trainer B Robinson fined $100 under AR59(A) for failing to present the Document of Description card. Began awkwardly and lost ground.

ARKROYAL – checked at start and lost ground.

CANADEN – shifted out at start checking another runner

HEAVENLY GLASS – was reluctant to leave the saddling enclosure after the jockey was mounted. The tongue tie was subsequently removed and was refitted prior to the mare being loaded into the barriers. Trainer J Anderson was advised a warning would be placed on the pre-race manners of HEAVEANLY GLASS. App H Philpot, in the presence of Jockey advocate G Smith, was questioned regarding her riding of HEAVENLY GLASS in the first 150 metres of the event and also her reasons for shifting out abruptly and moving wider on the track leaving the 500 metres. App Philpot stated after being fractious prior to be loaded into the barriers, HEAVENLY GLASS began awkwardly and as a consequence lost contact with the main body of the field. She added leaving the 500 metre the mare improved into the race strongly and rather than being caught on heels of runners forward of her she elected to shift to the outside and wider on the track at that point. In acknowledging App Philpot’s limited race riding experience she was however advised to show greater urgency in obtaining a position in the early stages of a race, particularly an event over a sprint distance, and also to ride her mounts in a manner that affords them the opportunity to finish in the best possible position.

SAPHIRE QUEST – inconvenienced at the start when the barriers were marginally slow to open. Rider S Apthorpe was reprimanded under AR142 for failing to weigh in for 5th place when required to do so.

MIM’S GALLERY – ducked in abruptly inside 200 metre when placed under pressure.

RACE 2: BENCHMARK 65 HDCP 1000 Metres

The barrier stalls were tested prior to this event.

CAPTYAIN CLAYTON – a post race Vet inspection revealed a cut to the front of the near hind coronet band.

SHOWABIT OF HEART – raced wide for majority of the event.

HONOUR JACKO – tightened between runners at the start and lost ground.

FAVOURITE SHADOW – a post race Vet examination revealed a minor abrasion to the off fore leg.

WESTERN MAIZCAY – raced wide for majority of event.

RACE 3: MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres

BALKANS CLANG – became unbalanced and made the home-turn awkwardly

VISION AND VALUES – bumped with another runner near 1100 metres when taken inwards. Checked by another runner approaching 1000 metres. Had a tendency to lay out under pressure inside 200 metres resulting in rider being unable to fully test mount to the line.

FEROCIOUSJEWEL – slow to begin.

KAPPA SIGMA – bumped with another runner near 1100 metres. Tightened for room near 1000 metres.

LILLIAN ELIZA – raced wide for majority

SHE’S THE GOODS – rider S Bayliss pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the 1000 metres when insufficiently clear of VISION AND VALUES which had to be checked and lose its position. S Bayliss was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence midnight 11th April up to and including midnight 24th April.

SMALL CHANGE – when questioned regarding the apparent improved performance, rider M O’Brien stated the mare was racing down in class today and this coupled with a number of gear changes contributed to its improved showing in today’s event.

IT’S A MINARDI – inconvenienced and crowded near 1100metres.

MILLION KISSES – bumped at the start.

RACE 4: CLASS B HDCP 1200 Metres

MYSTERY ANGEL – raced wide in early and early stages of the event.

TEN TO LIFE – raced wide in early stages of the event. When questioned regarding below market performance, App S Lacey stated the mare travelled well to the 800 metres but was then inclined to hang out and commenced to weaken from that point, and in her opinion was disappointing. A post race Vet examination of TEN TO LIFE revealed no obvious abnormality, other than a poor post race recovery rate. Trainer B Gill was advised a Vet clearance would be required prior to the mares’ next race start and a post-race swab sample was also taken from TEN TO LIFE.

CLIFFORD – jumped in at start and tightened another runner.

SAGAMASTER – tightened between runners at the start. Rider reported at scale the gelding was inclined to lay out at various stages of the event. On pulling up SAGAMASTER suffered an injury to its near hind pastern region, and was immediately attended to by the on course Vet. Trainer G Taylor was advised the gelding would require a Vet clearance prior to its next race start.

LADY WIVENHOE – made the home-turn wide on the track.

NADA TO PRADA – jumped outwards at the start and tightened another runner.

RACE 5: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1600 Metres

FUNNY FELLOW – inconvenienced near 1200 metres and forced wider when another runner shifted out.

EASY TO SMILE – slow to begin.

FALKOR – when questioned regarding tactics adopted rider A Taylor stated that after being caught wide early, the pace eased near the 1200 metre and the gelding did not settle, so she elected to ride forward and race in a position outside the leader. She added FALKOR was under pressure leaving the 500 metres and in her opinion did not run out the 1600 metres of today’s event.

SEAGARD – obliged to steady from another runners heels near 1200 metre turn.

FAYEZ – reared as start was effected and lost ground. Inconvenienced when pace steadied near 1200 metres.
