RACE 1: MAIDEN PLATE 1000 Metres

MASTER KWILA, which was first-up today after an extended break, was examined by the Club Vet prior to the start and cleared to start.

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow App J Hodge, rider of 3rd placegetter EVERINGHAM to view the patrol DVD to in relation to an incident involving first placegetter MARION MARY inside the 100 metres. After viewing the replay he elected to take the matter no further and correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings.

EVERINGHAM – after being loaded, broke through the barriers and quickly restrained. Subsequently examined by the Club Vet and cleared to start. Jumped away awkwardly and bumped another runner.

MASTER KWILA – Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. Trainer S Golinski was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

STORM ANCHOR – raced wide for majority of event.

CHIC DE TROY – bumped by another runner at start.

LULIN – steadied close to the line to avoid another runner’s heels.

CRYSTAL BEACH – inconvenienced shortly after the start.

MARION MARY – shifted out under pressure inside the final 100 metres.

ALEMANA – slow to begin. On return to scale rider reported the filly had a tendency to hang in from the 300 metres until entering the home straight.

NOTHIN’ ZAPPENIN’ – shifted out under pressure approaching the finishing line inconveniencing another runner. Rider B Derbyshire advised to exercise care.



RACE 2: CLASS B HDCP 1000 Metres

After being loaded JAI’S LUCK became fractious and broke through the barriers, was quickly restrained, examined by the Club Vet and passed fit to start. As a result both NATIVE and ELUSIVENESS also broke through the barriers and galloped for a considerable distance. Both NATIVE and ELUSIVENESS were declared late scratchings at 2:14pm on Vet’s advice with all bets on both runners to be refunded and deductions of 7 cents on face value of win tickets and 9 cents on face value of place tickets to apply. Trainer J Judge was advised a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of JAI’S LUCK. A post race Vet examination of ELUSIVENESS revealed a laceration to the nearside nostril.


ISSY COMMAND – correct weight was delayed to allow rider to view photo finish image. After viewing the image, correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.

MISSAMORK – raced wide for the majority of the event.

PRIMROSE SKY – bumped by another runner on jumping.

SCORPION PRINCESS – jumped out at the start and bumped another runner. Shifted out under pressure approaching the finishing line.

BEYOND THE STORM – held up rounding the home turn. Approaching the 100 metres, obliged to shift out across heels to obtain clear running.

YOU’LL HAVE TO – on return to scale, rider reported his barrier was slightly slow to open. Barriers were subsequently tested prior to running of Race 3.

GUNNA EXCEL – raced wide for the majority. Trainer fined $100 under AR141B(3) for presenting mare to race in standard race plates and not concussion plates which were part of its approved gear.



RACE 3: MAIDEN HDCP 1200 Metres

The start of this event was delayed when MISS YOU JOHNNY needed to be resaddled behind the barriers.

DICKY TICKER – when questioned regarding disappointing performance, rider stated his instructions were to ride the colt in a forward position, however he was of the opinion this did not suit the horse’s racing pattern and advised connections that in his opinion DICKY TICKER is better suited when ridden off the speed. A post race Vet examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

PORTLAND POWER – was fractious in the enclosure and dislodged rider. Examined by the Club Vet prior to being loaded and cleared fit to start. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance A Best explained the gelding felt awkward in its actions during the middle stages of the event and for this reason was reluctant to place PORTLAND POWER under pressure. He added, however approaching the home turn PORTLAND POWER responded to his riding and finished the race off fairly. A post race Vet examination revealed no significant abnormality.

FLINDERS LUCK – raced wide throughout.

JUAN COOL KAT – began awkwardly and shifted out bumping another runner.

SHE’S THE GOODS – raced wide for the majority of the event.

TWILIGHT HUNTER – when questioned, rider A Merritt stated after beginning awkwardly the mare raced greenly in the early stages of the event and was unable to hold a forward position as a result. He added TWILIGHT HUNTER improved into the race from the 800 metres and despite racing wide from that point found the line well. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered.

YAMANNERS – bumped by another runner at the start.




RACE 4: BENCHMARK 65 HDCP 1200 Metres

The start of this event was delayed when the tongue tie on ONLINES had to be refitted.

YOU WIN AGAIN – weakened over the final 400 metres. Rider stated in his opinion the gelding is better suited to races over a shorter distance.

ATTITUDINAL MISS – near the 1000 metres obliged to steady away from heels of another runner which shifted in.

CONHENRI – near the 1000 metres shifted in hampering another runner. Rider W O Connell advised to exercise more care.

RED WARNING – jumped out at start.

CHILLDOWN – checked shortly after the start and lost ground. Approaching the home turn held up on heels of a tiring runner.



RACE 5: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1600 Metres

K Bolton, trainer of COMMANDER BOLTZ, was reprimanded under AR140B(2) for failing to notify removal of bandages on that gelding by the prescribed time.

Trainer G Parker was reprimanded under AR124 for presenting BALKANS CLANG late to the saddling enclosure.

MR PENNY PACKER – rider B Powell reprimanded under AR137(a) for shifting in near the 1200 metres when not fully clear and hampering another runner.

BALKANS CLANG – when questioned regarding disappointing performance rider B Derbyshire stated after being hampered near 1200 metres the gelding felt awkward in its action, and from that point failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing. A post race Vet examination of BALKANS CLANG revealed a slight abrasion to the near hind fetlock.
