Supplementary Report from Esk 4/7/15:

Race 5 XXXX Hdcp. Stewards continued an inquiry into the reason for CELTIC DRAGON (App D Daniel) being checked a short distance after the start. Evidence revealed that on jumping away, CALUROSO shifted out slightly taking both HI HI (I Coombes) and CELTIC DRAGON outwards. A short distance late STAR THOMAS (M O’Brien) shifted inwards before being corrected, resulting in CELTIC DRAGON being checked and HI HI being hampered. In the circumstances stewards could not be satisfied that any one rider was fully to blame, however M O’Brien was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

DAYUAN – Trainer Mr A Mead was asked to explain the improved performance of the mare at today’s event. Mr Mead indicated that the mare’s performances have been inconsistent due to the fact that the mare is not a very good traveller. As the mare raced on her home track and did not have to travel far today she produced an improved performance. Stewards noted the explanation



General:
The advertised QTIS first place prizemoney in Races 3 & 4 was incorrectly shown in the race-book, with the correct amount being $8050 for each QTIS eligible winner. A public announcement was made to this effect.

After consultation with connections, Stewards allowed App H Phillips to fulfil her commitments despite not claiming her full allowance in races 3, 4 and 6. H Phillips was advised that she is not to accept rides where she is unable to claim her full allowance.

IMAMODEL was declared a late scratching at 12:00pm when trainer G Walters advised the mare had sustained an injury to its near hind leg. Mr Walters was advised a Vet certificate would be required prior to IMAMODEL’s next race start.



RACE 1: MAIDEN PLATE 800 Metres

After being loaded into the barriers FEROCIOUSJEWEL (App R Johnston-Bell), reared up and became cast. The mare was examined by the club Vet and subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:07pm. All other runners were removed from the barriers as App Johnston-Bell was attended to by club Medical officers, resulting in a 10 minute delay to the start of this event. Prior to declaration of correct weight stewards ordered all investments on FEROCIOUSJEWEL be refunded with deductions of 8 cents win and 8 cents place face value of all bets. Trainer G Richardson was advised FEROCIOUSJEWEL would require to trial prior to its next race start. App Johnston-Bell was transported to hospital and replaced as per race day summary sheet, and will require a medical clearance prior to resuming race riding.


DARK CAESAR – rider J Hoopert reported at scale the gelding had a tendency to lay out for the majority of the event.

EVERINGHAM – raced wide throughout.

INDESTRUCTIBLE – shifted wider on the track rounding the hometurn.

MANNICH – proved difficult to load. Trainer G Nielson was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners.


IBELIEVEICANFLY – made contact with enclosure fence when moving onto the track. Examined behind barriers by club Vet and cleared to start. Raced wide for majority of the event.


RACE 2: CLASS 1 HDCP 1000 Metres

SECOND HAND LION – bumped heavily at the start by another runner and lost ground. Passing the 400 metres shifted in and made heavy contact with another runner. Rider L McCoy advised to exercise more care.

ROCKABYE ANGEL – rider reported at scale the mare had a tendency to lay out from the 600 metres.

PAGOH – approaching 100 metres was obliged to alter course to obtain clear running.

BEYOND THE STORM – raced wide for majority of the event.

MUSTOLA GOLD – trainer M Fleming reported the gelding was fractious when being transported to the track. Examined by club Vet prior to the start and cleared to run. Bumped heavily by another runner passing 400 metres and became unbalanced. Shifted in under pressure near 100 metres. App M Murphy was reminded of his obligation to stop riding and straighten in similar circumstances.

IMILCHE – raced wide throughout.



RACE 3: QTIS MAIDEN HDCP 1200 Metres

ROCKONI – obliged to steady when tightened by another runner near 1100 metres

NOSTIC –raced wide in early and middle stages of the event.

ISLAND EMPIRE – when questioned regarding below market performance rider M Crawford reported the gelding was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages of the event and in his opinion did not appreciate the firm surface. Trainer N Hocking indicated he would now look to stepping ISLAND EMPIRE up in distance. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered.

MADAM MUK – rider Bradley Appo was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 1100 metres and tighten another runner when not clear.

UNIQUE TOMMY – blundered on jumping and lost ground.

FAREWELL ANNA – raced wide for majority.



RACE 4: QTIS MAIDEN HDCP 1200 Metres

BANGATE – which was having its race start began awkwardly and lost ground, then shortly after shifted out and raced wide thereafter.

HELLO HARRA – checked near 1000 metres and lost ground.

ALOFTHYM – App H Phillips pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1000 metres she made insufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting in which resulted in HELLO HARRA being checked. App Phillips was suspended for a period covering 2 country meetings to commence midnight 8th August up to and including midnight 22 August. In assessing penalty stewards took into account H Phillips guilty plea and also that she had only recently returned from a similar careless riding suspension.

HAVEN GAL – rider M Crawford was reprimanded for excessive backhand use of the whip.

RED’S THE GO – when questioned regarding tactics to lead Trainer S Burns stated at its most recent start at Gatton on 3rd July the mare was caught wide throughout, and previously at Eidsvold on 13th June was again caught wide and obliged to race back further than anticipated. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered.

SHEKIRA – slow to begin.



RACE 5: BENCHMARK 65 HDCP 1200 Metres

RODRIGEUZ – slow to begin.

RHIATENN ROAD – checked at the start between runners.

I’M NO RUBY – raced wide in the early and middle stages. App A Van Der Senden was fined $100 for failing to weigh in as rider of fourth placegetter when required to do so.

KIARA QUEEN – shifted in at the start and checked another runner.

EUREKA DAZZLER – raced wide in the early and middle stages. Following the event Trainer S Burns reported the gelding had traces of blood in the near side nostril. Mr Burns indicated EUREKA DAZZLER would now be leaving his stable, however the gelding will be required to compete in a 1000 metre gallop prior to its next race start.

CANID – slow to begin.


RACE 6: CUP OPEN HDCP 1600 Metres

BAREMIN – near the 1300 metres was obliged to race wider momentarily when another runner shifted out after being steadied away from heels. When questioned regarding below market performance, App H Phillips stated the mare was first up today over 1600 metres and that in her opinion this was the contributing factor in BAREMIN weakening over the latter stages of the event. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered.

WINNER WIMMER – shifted out when the pace steadied near the 1300 metres.

OUR PLAYDOUGH – slow to begin.

DAYUAN – at scale App I Rabjones reported that the gelding did not appreciate todays firm track, and that in her opinion is better suited on sand tracks.

KING OF JACKS – began awkwardly.


RACE 7: CLASS B HDCP 1600 Metres

FLOWER OF YOUTH – over raced in the early and middle stages.

FLINDERS LUCK – jumped out at the start and bumped another runner.

FLYING TIGER – bumped at the start by another runner

RED POKER – caught wide in the early stages of the event.
