SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Jockey V. Venkaya advised Stewards prior to Race 1 that he would be 0.5kg overweight in race 1, and 1.5kg overweight in races 3, 4, 5 and 6. After speaking to trainers B. Dixon and J. Patterson, Stewards permitted V. Venkaya to take his rides and subsequently fined him $300 under AR145. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account jockey Venkaya’s good record under this rule.

Following Race 6, Stewards inquired into a complaint by trainer J. Patterson in relation to Mr. E. Brassington assisting the barrier attendants in Race 6. After taking evidence from both parties and trainer L. Baker, it was established that Mr Brassington had experience as a starter and barrier attendant, had no involvement in the ownership of MORE FAVULOUS, and did not physically assist with the loading of MORE FAVULOUS. Given this evidence Stewards took the matter no further.

Race 3: BROWN AND HURLEY NEWMARKET OPEN HANDICAP 1100M.

FOUR IRON - Began fairly and the tailed the field during the early stages of the event before making significant ground during the middle stages and finished the race off strongly. Stewards questioned jockey and trainer D. Rewald regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding. Mr Rewald stated that the horse was not suited by the fast tempo in the early stages and raced further back in the field than he anticipated, which he attributed to the weight of 63kg. However, he felt the gelding finished the race off strongly. Stewards noted the explanation.

PLATTERS - Shifted out marginally under pressure over the final stages.

MAN OF DESTINY - Slow to begin. Shifted in marginally over the concluding stages.

POLAR BLITZ - Cast a plate during the event. The horse rolled in marginally at the 800m. Jockey V. Venkaya was advised to exercise more care.

Race 4: BILL AND KJ COSTELLO MEMORIAL RATINGS 0-45 HANDICAP 1200M

STRIKE ZONE - Travelled wide in the middle stages. Jockey N. Morton advised Stewards that the horse raced erratically and wasn’t suited by the track conditions today. She added that the gelding failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing.

COOL DRAGON - Travelled wide during the early and middle stages of the event.

DIAMOND RUSH - Stood flat footed as the gates opened and missed the start by several lengths. Trainer R. Frazer was advised the gelding will need to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
