GENERAL
Due to the extreme weather conditions today’s meeting was run under the QRIC Policy - Caring for Racing Animals in Extreme Heat.
 
The following weight alterations were permitted by Stewards:
Race 2: A Sewell – FLEETINGLY - + .5kg
Race 4: L Tilley – READYENTIME - + .5kg
Race 5: N Day – SONIC ARROW - + 1kg
Race 5: A Sewell – BOUDICA’S GIFT - + .5 kg
Race 5: J Stanley – KARBORS - + 1kg
Race 7: N Day – LI’L RODGE - + 1kg
 
Race 1: MILNE BROS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
FRESH PRINCE – Laid in the early stages of the race. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
ALLANON – When questioned regarding todays improved performance, Trainer R Vale advised that he had reapplied the earmuffs which assisted in the gelding jumping well and gaining an easy lead, which effected its overall performance. Jockey R Wiggins was questioned regarding ALLANON to race on-pace in today’s event Mr Wiggins stated he had not received any instructions however given that ALLANON had jumped well and the size of the small field he elected to maintain the lead.
 
LYNRIC LASS – The start was delayed when LYNRIC LASS refused to load and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:23pm. All monies invested on LYNRIC LASS were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner follows:
 
9 cents in the dollar for the win ALLANON
9 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner ALLANON
 
Trainer L Sullivan was advised that LYNRIC LASS would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start.
 
GOLDEN ATHENA – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
 
 
Race 2: DYNAMIC ELECTRICAL Class 3 Handicap 1800 metres
 
KOTABHARU – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
FLEETINGLY – When questioned regarding the mare racing on the pace in today’s event Jockey A Sewell advised there was little speed in the race and that after the mare had jumped well with the field he elected to settle handy. He also stated that over the concluding stages the mare failed to respond when placed under pressure.
 
 
Race 3: RUM CITY FOODS Class 6 Plate 1300 metres
 
The start of this was delayed to allow a pre-race veterinary examination of EMILEE’S EMPIRE in the tie -up stalls. The start time was rescheduled to jump at 2:37pm.
 
SVINDAL – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Over raced due to lack of speed in the early stages.
 
TEZOFF – Over raced due to lack of speed in the early stages.
 
SCHAPPOSE (NZ) – Over raced due to lack of speed in the early stages.
 
EMILEE'S EMPIRE – Prior to presenting to the mounting yard EMILEE’S EMPIRE underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to concerns with the action of the mare while making its way to the mounting yard and was passed fit to start. The mare further undertook a second veterinary examination at the barriers and was cleared to start. Over raced in the early stages due to the lack of speed.
 
 
Race 4: EMPIRE APARTMENTS QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
DIAMOND MONEY – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Shifted outwards approaching the 200m to obtain clear racing room. 
 
IKIGAI STAR – Jumped away awkwardly, and as a result was slow to begin. Laid out in the home straight. Trainer J Wigginton was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings record for its racing manners.
 
UNDER THE COVERS – Shifted out on jumping. Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
ALEACO – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
DEVIL KICK – Slow to begin and failed to maintain contact with the remainder of the field over the early and middle stages. Trainer K Smyth was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s record for today’s performance.
 
GLORIOUS KATHY – Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
READYENTIME – Dipped shortly after the start, losing ground.
 
SHALOOK – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
 
Race 5: PAVSCORP Class 3 Handicap 1100 metres
 
LAURIE – Commenced to over race, becoming awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 700m, shifting out abruptly, carrying KARBORS wider on the track. Was held up from the 600m until the 300m. Apprentice Jockey T Fenlon was advised to exercise more care with shifting ground in the future.
 
BOUDICA'S GIFT – Bumped on jumping with KARBORS.
 
KARBORS – Bumped on jumping with BOUDICA’S GIFT. Passing the 700m, was carried wider on the track by LAURIE which shifted out abruptly.
 
 
Race 6: WADE HUNT IT BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1300 metres
 
ORNATE – Overraced in the middle stages. Was severely checked at the 400m when MERIDA’S BOW was carried out by WHAT A THOUGHT which shifted outwards.
 
LASTOFTHE MOHICANS – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
URALBA – Was hampered at the 400m when ORNATE was shifted out by MERIDA’S BOW which was in turn carried out by WHAT A THOUGHT which shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
ANGOLA MISS – Slow to begin.
 
MERIDA'S BOW – Prior to jumping, was difficult to load. Approaching the 400m, was steadied and shifted out abruptly when WHAT A THOUGHT shifted outwards. Was again hampered by WHAT A THOUGHT passing the 400m when it shifted outwards. Jockey M Murphy pled guilty to a breach of AR131(a) in that approaching the 400m he permitted his mount to shift out abruptly when insufficiently clear of MERIDA’S BOW, which as a result was carried out causing ORNATE, URALBA and STARHATTEN to check. Jockey M Murphy’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence midnight the 8th of March to midnight the 20th of March 2022. In determining penalty Stewards took into account the severity of the incident, Mr Murphy’s record and his guilty plea.
 
STARHATTAN – Was hampered at the 400m by URALBA which was carried outwards from inside runners.
 
THE CROWN – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages. When questioned regarding todays improved performance, Trainer K Miller stated that it’s last start was on a rain effected  track, had a chequered run and had appreciated the firmer nature of today’s track conditions.
 
WHAT A THOUGHT – Approaching the 400m shifted ground outwards. Passing the 400m, again shifted outwards forcing MERIDA’S BOW to be steadied.
 
 
Race 7: ST PATRICK'S DAY RACES - SATURDAY 12 MARCH OPEN
Handicap 1400 metres
 
JAY JAY – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
BOGEY MAN – Was hampered on jumping by LI’L ROGUE and HI HARRY and as a result lost ground. 
 
HI HARRY – Bumped with NAMAZU over the concluding stages. Upon returning to scale Jockey J Stanley reported that his mount hung in throughout the event and proved difficult to ride out over the concluding stages.
 
SHIRANDA – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
NAMAZU – Laid in when placed under pressure in the straight. Bumped with HI HARRY over the concluding stages.
 
LI'L RODGE – Over raced in the early stages.
