Race 1: SWANWICK MURRAY ROCHE LAWYERS Maiden Handicap 1100 metres

PAULI – Slow to begin. Jockey M Butler was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted. Jockey Butler was also reminded of his obligations regarding his use of the whip when out of contention.

SEISME – Slow to begin. Bumped at the start. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Bumped with OPAQUELY when angling for a run when approaching the 200m.

OPAQUELY – Raced keen early.

APRIL LOVE – Jumped outwards at the start and bumped with SEISME.

GULF OF AQABA – Raced keen through the early stages. Become awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 600m and had to be steadied. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.

SWISS ELEMENT – Began awkwardly and bumped with HUSH PUPPY at the start. Raced wide early.

ESCAPED PRISONER – Raced keenly early and middle stages.

BELLA BIANCA – Jumped inwards at the start crowding HUSH PUPPY. Raced wide throughout.

HUSH PUPPY – Began awkwardly. Crowded, bumped and tightened at the start. Laid outwards over the concluding stages.


Race 2: REGIONAL INSURANCE BROKERS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1050 metres

FARMER'S FRIEND – Slow into stride.

YAROOMBA – Shifted inwards at the start and bumped with BEST SONG. Hung out over pressure in the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to disclose any abnormalities.

PHOSPHER BRONZE – Hung outwards throughout. Jockey R Wiggins reported that his mount proved difficult to ride throughout which placed him at some disadvantage. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing manners of the gelding.

BEST SONG – Bumped at the start by YAROOMBA.

BORNEES LAD – Inclined to lay in under pressure. Jockey A Spinks was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on seven occasions prior to the 100m two more than permitted.

IDONO – Raced wide for the majority. Hung in under pressure. Jockey T Brooker was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to her mount on seven occasions prior to the 100m two more than permitted.

IMAGINE THAT – Began very awkwardly resulting jockey becoming noticeably unbalanced and almost being dislodged. Rider dropped whip prior to the 100m.

GABRIELLE – Slow to begin. Trainer A Jones was reprimanded under AR106(2) when the mare was presented not wearing a tongue tie. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils. The mare is banned from racing for three months and until the completion of a 1000m gallop in the presence of stewards under the previous of AR79(4).


Race 3: CQ USED CAR SUPERSTORE Class 4 Handicap 1050 metres

FIGHTING COMMANDO – Jockey A Butler was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on seven occasions prior to the 100m two more than permitted.

HIGHGROUND – Fractious before the start and began awkwardly.

BAG OF WHITT – Slow to begin. Jumped inwards at the start bumping WINE TALKS resulting in jockey G Cartwright becoming unbalanced.

WINE TALKS – Fractious before the start. Bumped at the start and was slow to begin.


Race 4: ROCKHAMPTON REGIONAL COUNCIL 2023 MAYORS CUP OPEN Handicap 1200 metres

PLENTY – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.

AGE OF INNOCENCE – Bumped with DEEP BREATH leaving the 200m.

AMMOUDI BAY – Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CABALO ESCURO – Bumped at start by DRATINI. Jockey C Lennon was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted.

DEEP BREATH – Bumped with AGE OF INNOCENCE leaving the 200m.

DRATINI – A fraction slow to begin. Jumped inwards at the start bumping CABALO ESCURO.


Race 5: ULTON CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALE 3&4YO CLASSIC Handicap 1300 metres

FIRE KING – Bumped after the start by TRICKY BEANS. Restrained from the heels of MONEY MUNCHER near the 800m. Jockey R Wiggins was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on seven occasions prior to the 100m two more than permitted.

AGUSTAWYND – Raced wide in the early stages.

JUST SUPER – Held up for clear running until leaving the 400m.

DIVINE PURPOSE – Jockey J Stanley was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted.

MONEY MUNCHER – Over raced for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off-hind leg. Trainer K Smyth was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the gelding next competing in a race.

UNDER THE CAP – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Jockey L Tarrant was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted.

SEDUCTIVE SPUR – Jockey M Murphy advised that after having a relatively good run in transit he felt his mount failed to run the distance of today’s event and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

STREET GLORY – Slow to begin.

TRICKY BEANS – Slow to begin and bumped with FIRE KING after the start. Raced wide during the early stages.

SOCK'EMSID – Began awkwardly. Briefly held up for running near the 350m.


Race 6: DLV FINANCE 2023 CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALE CLASSIC 2YO PLATE 1200 metres

SUNNYCOAST – Shifted in at the start. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.

I'M BLUEY – Slow to begin. Jockey J Stanley reported his mount slipped soon after the start therefore, settled further back than anticipated. Shifted in under pressure near the 300m and bumped with SKREATCH.

SKREATCH – Tightened after the start. Bumped near the 300m by I’M BLUEY.

THIS GIRL'S READY – Slow to begin.

DIVINE SIENNA – Raced greenly under pressure. Jockey A Sewell was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted.

STEAMING SUN – Laid in under pressure over the 200m.

FORCESOME – Tightened after the start. Laid out under pressure over the 300m.

FRENCH STORY – Proved difficult to load and then reared in the barriers. Connections were advised that the filly has been stood down to complete a satisfactory barrier trial prior to resuming racing. Trainer P Butterworth advised it was his intention to send the filly for a spell. Slow to begin.

PACIFIC HARBOUR – Slow to begin.

HUSSY EMPRESS – Tightened after the start.


Race 7: FLEXICOMMERCIAL Class 6 Plate 1600 metres

Correct weight was delayed allowing Jockey J Murphy CIAO BICKY to view the photo finish for first. After viewing the photo Mr Murphy was satisfied with the result and correct weight was declared.

CIAO BICKY – Raced keenly early and middle stages.

KOTABHARU – Held up for clear running in the initial stages of the home straight. Jockey C Whiteley was queried to whether he gave consideration to taking and inside run leaving the 400m rather than switching wider. Mr Whiteley stated that KOTABHARU is not a horse that performs well on the inside of other runners, so he opted to shift wider. Mr Whiteley also stated that the mare only has a 200m sprint and felt he had ample opportunity to finish in the best possible placing when obtaining clear running for the final 250m. When considering the statement made by the rider, stewards did not feel the tactics adopted were unreasonable in the circumstances and KOTABHARU was ridden in a consistent manner.

HYPERION STAR (NZ) – Slow to begin. Hung out under pressure over the final 300m.
