GENERAL
The track conditions were upgraded to a Soft 5 prior to the commencement of race one.
 
Due to a delayed flight for the majority of the jockeys riding at the meeting the scheduled race times were put back one race and the last race rescheduled to 5.05pm. There was a further delay with their flights which delayed the commencement of race one until 1.12pm.
 
Following a fall in race one there was a further delay with the following time alterations required. Race 3 - 2.50pm, Race 4 – 3.22pm, Race 5 – 3.53pm, Race 6 – 4.20pm, Race 7 – 4.52pm and Race 8 - 5.22pm.
 
The following weight alterations were authorised by Stewards.
Race 2: R Wiggins – REAL STATEMENT - + 1kg – 56.5kg
Race 2: C Whiteley – ALEACO - +1 kg – 55kg
Race 3: R Wiggins – VALENTINA EXPRESS - + 1kg – 56.5kg
Race 5: A Layt – BARACHIEL - + 1kg – 55kg
Race 5: C Whiteley – SPRING CREEK - + 1kg – 55kg
 
The following horses were all inspected by the club veterinarian pre-race after racing within the previous seven days and cleared to start.
 
MIA’S DREAM, EMPERORS REWARD, REBEL’S DAUGHTER, BLONDES DAY OUT, SECRET KING
 
 
Race 1: MARK BUNT MENSWEAR QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
MY COUNTY – Bumped with WELL RESTED at the start.
 
RED DEFCON – Raced wide through the early stages and had to take evasive action to avoid the fallen horse and rider near the 800m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
SERGEANT'S PRIDE – Checked near the 800m by the fallen runner. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Near the 400m had to be steadied and shifted ground outwards when WELL RESTED shifted out. Apprentice M Philpot was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a) for the manner in which she shifted ground at this point.
 
SWIFT STEP – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 900m commenced to over race and soon after contacted the heels of RED DEFCON and as a result SWIFT STEP fell. SWIFT STEP was found to have suffered a fracture to the off shoulder and was euthanised on humane grounds. Jockey M Potgieter was treated on course prior to being transported to hospital for further assessment. Mr Potgieter was released from hospital later in the evening. An inquiry into this incident will be conducted at a time and date to be fixed.
 
HOLLYWOOD ANGEL – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards.
 
WELL RESTED – Bumped with MY COUNTY at the start. Shifted out soon after the start bumping with MISHANI STAR. Shifted off heels of COMBAT MISSION approaching the 400m.
 
BLUE WHISKEY – Jumped awkwardly and was very slow to begin. Over raced early stages. Forced wider on the track near the 800m to avoid the fallen runner.
 
MISHANI STAR – Bumped soon after the start with WELL RESTED.
 
 
Race 2: HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIAM MULRY QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres
 
BETTER RAIN – Held up for clear racing room until leaving the 400m.
 
REAL STATEMENT – Raced keenly during the early and middle stages.
 
TIOGA PASS – Held up for clear running approaching the 400m. At the 200m had to shift outwards off heels. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
TEQUILA DANCER – Shifted wider entering the home straight.
 
 
Race 3: THOMO'S BETTA ELECTRICAL Maiden Plate 1100 metres
 
EMPEROR'S REWARD – Re-saddled upon arrival at the barriers. Slow to begin. Faltered near the 120m resulting in rider M Philpot becoming unbalanced and being dislodged immediately after the finish line. A veterinary examination of EMPEROR’S REWARD revealed a suspensory ligament injury to the near foreleg. The gelding was treated on-course before being transported for further assessment and treatment. M Philpot was examined by the paramedics and cleared to take her remaining engagements. The connections of EMPEROR’S REWARD were advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the gelding racing again.
 
TYCOON BABY – Reluctant to load.
 
VALENTINA EXPRESS – Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
DEEP MYTH – Bumped with REBEL’S DAUGHTER at the start.
 
REBEL'S DAUGHTER – Began awkwardly and bumped with DEEP MYTH.
 
 
Race 4: KELE PROPERTY GROUP OPEN Handicap 1050 metres
 
There was a considerable delay to the start of the race due to the veterinarian being required to attend to an injured horse from the previous race.
 
TRU BLU TANGO – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
CAPTAIN FOX – Slow to begin.
 
KASINOVA KID – Began awkwardly and bumped with SPLASHER at the start.
 
SPLASHER – Bumped with KASINOVA KID at the start and then blundered.
 
VAST KAMA – Laid in over the final 300m.
 
VITAE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
 
Race 5: LJ HOOKER ROCKHAMPTON OPEN Handicap 1300 metres
 
MONTENEGRO MAN – Began awkwardly and dipped on jumping and was slow to begin as a result. Jockey J Stanley advised he had intended to settle handier to the pace, however after a slow beginning he was forced to ride at the back of the field.
 
CABALO ESCURO – Raced wide through the early and middle stages. Jockey C Lennon was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
SO YOU DREAM – Began awkwardly.
 
BARACHIEL – Buffeted and unbalanced near the 1200m when racing to the inside of SPRING CREEK. Jockey A Layt was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on eight occasions prior to the 100m, three more than permitted.
 
QUALITY ASSET – Slow to begin. Carried inwards and tightened near the 1200m.
 
SPRING CREEK – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1200m was tightened and buffeted between BARACHIEL and QUALITY ASSET and was checked for some distance. Jockey C Lennon pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) for permitting his mount to shift inwards near the 1100m carrying QUALITY ASSET in onto SPRING CREEK resulting in that runner being checked and losing it’s position. The race day license of C Lennon was suspended for eight days to commence midnight the 20th May and to conclude at midnight the 28th of May.
 
 
Race 6: WENDY MULRY TRAVEL Class 3 Plate 1400 metres
 
WINE TALKS – Bumped with MONEY MUNCHER at the start. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey Ryan Wiggins reported that he felt his mount failed to handle the track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
FOUR MILE LANE – Slow to begin.
 
MONEY MUNCHER – Bumped with WINE TALKS at the start. Raced wide early when progressing forward. Raced keen early.
 
ENUFF HE SAID – Raced keen in the early stages.
 
BLONDE'S DAY OUT – Bumped with LOVING MISS at the start. Raced wide early.
 
LOVING MISS – Bumped with BLONDE’S DAY OUT at the start.
 
MOST IMPRESSIVE (NZ) – Fractious in the barriers and became caught up in the structure. Was taken out of the barriers and underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. A warning was placed on the barrier manners of the mare.
 
 
Race 7: TAB RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1600 metres
 
RUFFIN' IT (NZ) – Jockey J Stanley advised that his mount over raced in the middle stages.
 
IKIGAI STAR – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after striking it’s leg on the mounting yard fence. The gelding was cleared to start. Jockey M Murphy was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
MARTO – Slow to begin resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced.
 
BATTLE – Raced wide early. Raced in restricted room passing the 400m when HYPERION STAR laid inwards. Jockey A Sewell when questioned regarding his decision to progress forward to lead with BATTLE during the early stages. Mr Sewell advised that he was intending to try and find a forward position with cover, however after being trapped wide early he elected to progress forward and was able to obtain the lead near the 1100m.
 
VANA STAR – Raced three wide with cover. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
COMMANDER'S WATCH – Briefly tightened between runners near the 300m.
 
HYPERION STAR (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over raced during the middle stages.
 
SECRET KING – W Satherley was the approved late rider replacement for the injured M Potgieter. Raced three wide throughout.
 
 
 
 
Race 8: GREAT NORTHERN RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap1200 metres
 
MAVERICK HENRY – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
THE BRUMBY – Raced wide throughout and over raced in the early stages.
 
LINGJUN TOPGUN – A Layt was the approved late rider replacement for injured M Potgieter.
 
SHUT IT DOWN – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
YAMUMZA – Bumped with MISHANI PATRIOT at the start.
 
FEAR THE NIGHT – Trainer A Coome was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late rider notification of C Whiteley. Raced wide throughout.
 
IMAGINE THAT – When questioned about the performance Jockey J Murphy advised he was of the view that the mare was in season and resented being around other runners.
 
CANTOR – Jumped outwards at the start bumping YAMUMZA which in turn bumped MISHANI PATRIOT.
 
MISHANI PATRIOT – Bumped with YAMUMZA at the start.
 
SAW THAT COMING – Fractious prior to the start and was slow to begin. Held up for a clear run passing the 200m and was shifted wider to obtain clear running.
 
NUKE – Jumped awkwardly. Raced greenly in the early stages. Jockey A Sewell will be interviewed in relation to his riding of the gelding over the final stages.
