SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
Rockhampton Jockey Club 18 May 2023 Race 8
Jockey A Sewell pled guilty to a breach of AR131(b) in that he failed to fully ride out his mount NUKE to the finish line, which in the opinion of the stewards impacted the potential for his mount to finish in fourth placing. Mr Sewell’s race day jockey’s licence was suspended for a period of seven days commencing midnight 27th May 2023 and conclude midnight the 3rd of June 2023.
 
GENERAL
 
The following weight alterations were approved by Stewards.
Race 1: R Wiggins – HOLLYWOOD ANGEL - + 1kg – 55kg
Race 2: T Chambers – NAUGHTY POSSUM - + 1kg – 55kg
 
Race 1: TAB QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres
 
 
HOLLYWOOD ANGEL – Slow to begin.
 
COMBAT MISSION – Began awkwardly. Rider A Donald reported that in her opinion the filly held her breath in running causing it to choke down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MISHANI AVIATOR – Raced in restricted room approaching the 700m. Brushed the running rail over the concluding stages when laying in under pressure.
 
MISHANI PERFECTION – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Hung in and raced greenly for the majority of the event.
 
TAHKIAN BUBBLES – Jumped awkwardly and over raced in the early stages.
 
Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN QTIS Maiden Handicap 1400 metres
 
UNCONVENTIONALLADY – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping WHAKAMIHARO.
 
RED FLASH – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out bumping with APRIL LOVE.
 
WHAKAMIHARO – Bumped at the start and was impeded by UNCONVENTIONALLADY. Gave ground over the final stages. Rider R Wiggins reported that his mount only battled throughout after suffering some minor interference at the start. R Wiggins was fined $200 under AR211(1) for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram overweight.
 
OUR GOLD CLAIM – Raced wide with cover through the early and middle stages.
 
APRIL LOVE – Began awkwardly and bumped with RED FLASH.
 
READY TO GROOVE – Over raced through the early stages.
 
HUMOUR ME – Raced wide early. Laid out under pressure near the 200m. Rider J Stanley advised that the filly endured more work than anticipated in the early stages to find a forward position and as a result was under pressure rounding the home turn. The rider further added that considering todays performance HUMOUR ME may be better suited ridden more conservative in future races.
 
NAUGHTY POSSUM – Very slow to begin.
 
SENSATIONABULL – Raced wide throughout. Rider W Satherley was reminded of his obligations in relation to ensuring he rides his mounts out fully to the finish.
 
 
Race 3: A DAYS GRAZE CATERING BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1600 metres
 
TEZOFF – Connections advised it was their intention to retire the gelding.
 
ENUFF HE SAID – Jumped inwards at the start bumping MATADOR. Raced keenly though the early and middle stages.
 
TRICKY BEANS – Jumped outwards at the start bumping MATADOR. Laid out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
MATADOR – Tightened for room at the start between TRICKY BEANS and ENUFF HE SAID and was slow into stride as a result. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Rider A Layt was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip on six occasions to his mount prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
 
Race 4: GREEN STEEL Class 3 Plate 1200 metres
 
I AM CLEVER – Began awkwardly and bumped after the start.
 
INVINCIBLE JET – Began awkwardly. Raced wide through the early stages. Hung inwards when giving ground over the final 400m.
 
THISLAND IS MYLAND – Over raced for some distance leaving the 800m. Raced in restricted room in the early stages of the home straight and was held up for clear running until leaving the 400m. Hung in under pressure over the final 400m.
 
VILA TINTO – Began awkwardly. Rider R Wiggins advised that his mount proved to be disappointing and could offer no tangible reason.
 
MONTANA NIGHT – Carried wider near the 900m when BAD EDUCATION shifted ground outwards. Approaching the 700m, was contacted on the hind quarters by THISLAND IS MYLAND, which was over racing, on two occasions and became unbalanced for a short distance.
 
BAD EDUCATION – Raced ungenerously near the 900m and shifted out bumping MONTANA NIGHT. Over raced for some distance during the middles stages.
 
 
Race 5: TONY MADDEN ARCHITECTS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden
Handicap 1200 metres
 
ASTRA WALLY – Intention to be ridden with cover and ridden accordingly. W Satherley was the approved late rider replacement for A Butler who was unable to make the allocated weight. A Butler was subsequently fined $200 under AR190(3) for accepting a ride and being unable to make the weight. Began awkwardly. Improved wide in the middle stages. Shifted wider by an improving runner passing the 400m. Rider W Satherley explained that after travelling well early he elected to improve in the middle stages and worked into the race well, however the gelding failed to let down as expected over the final 400m. Rider W Satherley was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on seven occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted.
 
SIRENE – Jumped in the air at the start and was bumped by AZURE DE LAGO. Raced ungenerously in the middle stages. Shifted ground outwards passing the 400m forcing ASTRA WALLY wider.
 
COCO ROYALE – Over race through the early stages. Shifted wider off the heels of ASTRA WALLY passing the 300m.
 
REMANDED – Began awkwardly.
 
GOLDIE'S POWER – Re-saddled at the barriers. Began awkwardly and was inconvenienced after the start.
 
AZURE DE LAGO – Jumped out at the start bumping SIRENE. Hung outwards for the majority of the race. Connections were advised that a warning has been placed against the manners of the filly.
 
MISHANI PLATINUM – Over raced through the early stages.
 
Race 6: PAT O'DRISCOLL REAL ESTATE BENCHMARK 70 Handicap
1050 metres
 
YULONG SOVEREIGN – Raced in restricted room and briefly bumped with POET’S GIRL approaching the first bend. Continued to race in restricted room with SIDEARM having to be restrained on its inside racing into the first bend.
 
BLUE KENTUCKY MOON – Raced keenly through the early stages.
 
SIDEARM – Briefly tightened for room racing around the first turn and then raced ungenerously for a short distance. Over raced for some distance in the middle stages. Held up for clear running until leaving the 400m and then bumped POET’S GIRL which in turn bumped WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN, when shifting outwards to improve.
 
ONCHAO – Began awkwardly and bumped POET’S GIRL at the start.
 
WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN – Raced wide without cover throughout. Bumped leaving the 400m.
 
MISS SCALINI – Brushed the running rail shortly after entering the home straight.
 
POET'S GIRL – Bumped with ONCHAO at the start. Bumped by SIDEARM leaving the 400m.
 
 
Race 7: WARNER BUILDING GROUP BENCHMARK 55 Handicap1400 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of second placed RUFFIN’ IT to view the replays of the home straight and after doing so declined to proceed and correct weight was declared.
 
POLICE (NZ) – Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Rider reported the horse got its tongue over the bit during the run.
 
FARMER’S FRIEND – Rider A Butler reported that the gelding raced flat and proved to be disappointing. Trainer G Bell advised that the gelding had pulled up well and she would look to give FARMER’S FRIEND a freshen up before looking at races of a lessor distance than that of today’s race.
 
THE BRUMBY – Raced keen in the early stages.
 
DEVIL KICK – Raced keenly through the early stages. Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight. Shifted in under pressure leaving the 200m and was then corrected by the rider over the concluding stages.
 
IKIGAI STAR – Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Laid out during the middle stages of the home straight. Apprentice A Donald was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to her mount on seven occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted.
 
 
Race 8: REGIONAL INSURANCE BROKERS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55
Handicap 1050 metres
 
ASTRAL ODYSSEY – Jumped in at the start checking TORQUE SENSATION. Raced wide with cover through the early stages.
 
DENIMS – Apprentice L O’Donnell reported the gelding proved disappointing when first up from a spell today and would derive benefit from today’s race.
 
TORQUE SENSATION – Jumped in the air at the start and was then tightened and inconvenienced when ASTRAL ODYSSEY shifted in. Rider J Doolan advised that she lost use of offside stirrup iron at the start. Raced in restricted room before improving outwards near the 400m. Apprentice J Doolan was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to her mount on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
AFROGINASOCK – Jumped awkwardly. Raced in restricted room near the 300m.
 
MEDIA EMPIRE – Was held up through the early and middle stages of the run home. Cast an off hind plate in running.
 
SWISS ELEMENT – Laid in under pressure passing the 400m.
 
ISSHEGREY – Apprentice A Donald was reminded of her obligation to ensure she rides her mounts out fully to the finish.
 
LYNRIC LASS – Slow into stride. Held up for clear running through the early stages of the run home.
 
COOEEBAYMAGIC – Raced wide throughout.
