RACE 1 - THE BEND MAIDEN PLATE - 1000m
WHARTON CIEANNA - Was slow to begin.
BARTOWN RULES – Was slow to begin.
BEACH BUSINESS - Appr S. Lacey reported that the short priced favourite BEACH BUSINESS jumped awkwardly and settled back further than anticipated. Appr Lacy was also disappointed with the mares finishing effort and suggested to the trainer that the tongue tie should be put back on the horse.
BOB MARKS BOY - Raced wide in the early stages.
NORDIC QUEEN - When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer W Baker explained that the filly missed the start at its only start then showed pace before weakening to run last. The filly’s fitness had improved since that run and she had been working well and Mr Baker expected a much better performance today. Stewards noted the explanation.
RACE 2 - BROANDAH CLASS 3 PLATE - 1000m
MY MOVE - Was slow into stride.
FRAGEZEICHEN – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
BARNTOWN - Was unruly in the mounting yard and then performed poorly not handling the soft sand.
RACE 3 - SUMMER HILLS CLASS B HCP - 1200m
Due to a shortage of riders at today's meeting, permission was given for THAT’S THE PLAN (C Bryen) to be ridden a half kilo overweight.
IRISH DARK – Was bumped by another runner at the start.
DESTINY’S DESIRE - Jumped out at the start.
THAT’S THE PLAN – Bumped another runner shortly after the start. Raced wide for the majority of the event after laying in.
WENTWELL - Was eased shortly after the start when placed in restricted room.
HIGHWAY CHILD - Was dictated inwards in the early stages.
RACE 4 - SANTOS GLNG CUP OPRN HCP - 1640m
GARDER LA FOI - Jumped away awkwardly.
TESTACANA - Raced wide for the majority of the event.
RACE 5 - PLEASANT HILLS HCP BENCHMARK 55 - 1640m
SUGAR DOLL and DOMINICO were both late scratching’s at 3.15pm due to a shortage of riders at the meeting.
DASHINGLY - Which struck its knee leaving the mounting yard was inspected by the Veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
ZAPATA FALLS - Was slow to begin.
SPINADA – Raced wide without cover in the middle stage.
RED BERETTA - Bumped the running rail turning out of the straight.
PERFECTLY ALIGNED - Appr S Lacey was questioned regarding the riding tactics on Perfectly Aligned, which raced in a very rearward position in the early and middle stages. Appr Lacey said that her instructions we were to settle last as the gelding raced best that way. Appr Lacey added that the horse worked home strongly and made up considerable ground. Trainer B. Johnson confirmed that his instructions were to ride the horse in that manner.
THUNDA COOKIE – Hung in near the 900m. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed Thunda Cookie had sustained an injury to the offside front leg. Trainer C. Smith was advised that the gelding would require a Veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
TOUCAN UKELELE - Was inconvenienced when tightened by another runner at the 900m.
