GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight’s at todays meeting:
 
Race 6- Jockey S Sweedman +1kg
 
 
Race 1: BROWN & HURLEY AGRICULTURE QTIS Maiden Plate 1000 metres
 
BIG SKY COUNTRY- Began awkwardly.
 
NYTHE- Eased out of the race soon after the start had been initiated when a lead rope was still attached to the geldings bridle. After reviewing the official patrol footage and taking evidence from App J Golden and Starter J Harvey Stewards declared NYTHE a non-starter under the provisions of AR204(1)(b). Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers;
 
0cents in the dollar for the win
1cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
2cents in the dollar for 2nd place
3cents in the dollar for 3rd place
 
Starter J Harvey was admonished and undertook to review the communication practices at the barriers going forward.
 
 
THE UPRISING- Began awkwardly.
 
WYARGINE- Became awkwardly placed on heels soon after the start having to be eased.  Bumped the inside running rail near the 700m. Finished tailed off. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer G Schrader was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings competitiveness as a result.
 
CRYPTESS- Raced wide for the majority.
 
MISS DE BLAAS- Was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties. A pre-race blood sample was taken for analysis. Raced ungenerously leaving the 900m and again leaving the 900m after being crossed and commencing to receive kickback. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
 
Race 2: HALL CHADWICK ACCOUNTANTS Class 1 Handicap 1000 metres
 
BULLOCK ISLAND- Slow into stride.
 
RELICTA- Blundered on jumping. Shifted in near the 600m taking DUSTINS in, crowding ROMAN LAW which was eased. App D McGilivray was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
 
ROMAN LAW- Crowded and restrained near the 600m. On returning to the mounting yard was found to have bled from both nostrils in running. As this was the first such occasion Trainer C Smith was advised the gelding would incur a 3 month ban from racing and be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a Stewards prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
FIGURE IT OUT- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Trailed the field for the majority. Performed below market expectations. App J Golden advised that, in his opinion, the gelding would derive a significant fitness benefit from the run and is better suited races over further distances.
 
MURPHY'S RIVER- Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
LEIBERT LASS- Eased off heels and shifted out near the 600m. Performed below market expectations. Jockey S Apthorpe advised that, in his opinion, the filly resented the sand kickback in running.
 
DUSTINS- Crowded and taken in near the 600m.
 
SODBUSTER- Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 3: NUTRIEN HARCOURTS SLATTERYS Class 5 Plate 1200 metres
 
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the patrol footage of the finish to ascertain if the interference in the home straight between DEFERENCE (2nd placegetter) and CRAIG AND HOFF (1st placegetter) had any tangible effect on the placings. After viewing the footage Stewards were satisfied and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.
 
CAFFREY (IRE)- Laid in approaching the 1000m. Laid out under pressure down the running.
 
CRAIG AND HOFF- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in passing the 1000m. Raced keenly for the majority. Bumped approaching the 100m before shifting in and bumping again soon after.
 
DEFERENCE- Bumped on jumping. After beginning well from the wide barrier and racing keenly in the early stages settled further forward than may have been expected. Shifted out and bumped approaching the 100m before being bumped again soon after.
 
BARCLAY'S BANK- Raced wide for the majority.
 
OLD TOWN ROAD- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide from the 1000m.
 
DREAMSEEKER- Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
 
Race 4: MCINNES WILSON LAWYERS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1200 metres
 
ANANAGRAM (NZ)- Improved onto heels having to be eased near the 900m. Performed below market expectations. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Jockey J Rudd advised that, in his opinion, the gelding resented the sandy kickback in running.
 
LIP SIP SUK- Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. On returning to the mounting yard was found to have lost a near-front plate in running.
 
NUTSO- Raced wide for the majority.
 
EIL 'N' ALL- Laid out rounding the 1000m turn. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
FLYING ARION- Began awkwardly. After beginning on terms with the field was unable to muster the early speed to maintain its position and trailed for the majority. Jockey D Graham was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(i) for using her whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
PHEEBLE'S SPIRIT- Raced wide for the majority.
 
FORGED IN STONE- Became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 600m.
 
VALAR DOHAERIS- Shifted in marginally approaching the 600m, momentarily crowding FORGED IN STONE. App R Thornburn was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
TWO DUCKS ARTIE- Began very awkwardly. Laid in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 5: XXXX GOLD COUNTRY STAMPEDE QUALIFIER FLYING OPEN Handicap 1000 metres
 
NICK THE SKIP- Shifted in around heels to improve passing the 50m.
 
HIGH COST- Bumped on jumping.
 
I PROMISE YOU- Obliged to restrain off heels passing the 600m. Performed below market expectations. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Jockey N Evans advised that, in his opinion, the gelding resented the sandy kickback in running.
 
UNRESTRICTED- Began awkwardly. Became awkwardly placed on heels near the 700m. Shifted in when not fully clear of I PROMISE YOU passing the 600m. App A Graham was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
 
AL PAL'S GAL- Laid in leaving the 600m. Shifted ground under pressure down the running.
 
KEENZAP- Bumped on jumping and was bumped again soon after. Bumped leaving the 900m.
 
HIDDEN EYES- Bumped on jumping. Bumped leaving the 900m.
 
FINESSE TESS- Became awkwardly placed on heels having to be restrained approaching the 900m.
 
CAPITAL REIGN- Shifted in when not fully clear of FINESSE TESS approaching the 900m. App D McGilivray was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
 
 
Race 6: THE CLUB HOTEL COUNTRY CUPS RFDS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER / ROMA CUP OPEN H 1640 metres
 
TEARS OF LOVE- Inconvenienced on entering the home straight. Raced wide for the majority.
 
MENINDEE- Steadied off heels and shifted wider passing the 1100m.
 
KOBE ROCKS (NZ)- Performed below market expectations. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Jockey N Evans advised that, in his opinion, the gelding doesn’t see out a strong mile, particularly at this grade.
 
PALATE- Shifted in when not fully clear of MENINDEE, which was obliged to steady and shift wider, passing the 1100m. App J Golden was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
 
PARKO- Bumped on jumping.
 
STAMPEDE WARRIOR- Shifted in on entering the home straight inconveniencing TEARS OF LOVE. App T Leslight was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident. Laid in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority.
 
MOMACK- Began awkwardly. Commenced to race awkwardly when receiving heavy kickback near the 1200m.
 
CHECKERS (NZ)- As App D McGilivray was unable to fulfil his engagement due to illness App Z Sprie was substituted as replacement rider of the gelding. App McGilivray was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
 
WAITAKERE- Bumped on jumping.
 
PORTNOY- Lost ground from the 400m and wasn’t placed under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. App R Thorburn advised that, in his opinion, the gelding may have resented the sandy kickback in running. Trainer P Webster undertook to advise should anything become apparent regarding the gelding condition in the coming days.
 
SAMMY- Slow into stride. Improved onto heels having to be steadied passing the 1100m. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Momentarily held up on heels rounding the home straight.
 
CALM SEEKER (NZ)- Raced keenly on heels near the 1300m. Eased and shifted out away from heels passing the 1100m. Raced keenly down the back straight.
 
 
Race 7: MITCHELL WATER / MARANOA REGIONAL COUNCIL BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1640 metres
 
PESHWA- Momentarily crowded near the 1200m.
 
MUIRON- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
 
BARRYMORE- Began awkwardly.
 
MOORABINDA MICK- Raced wide for the majority.
 
HERE COMES LENNI (NZ)- Raced wide for the majority.
 
TOMBOY'S SPIRIT- Shifted in near the 1200m and momentarily crowded runners to the inside. Jockey L Tilley was advised to exercise far greater care in similar circumstances.  Raced wide for the majority.
 
PACKAGE- Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
AZOUSTIC- When Jockey S Sweedman was unable to fulfil his engagement due to illness Jockey N Evans was permitted as replacement rider of the gelding. Jockey S Sweedman was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Laid in rounding the 1000m turn.
 
PRETTY FLASH- Was declared a late scratching at 4:32pm on veterinary advice after becoming fractious in the race-day tie-ups and striking its head. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the mare were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 4:32pm;

9cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
9cents in the dollar for 2nd place
6cents in the dollar for 3rd place
 
Trainer M Goodwin was advised the mare would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
