Willis explained that not having ridden on the poly track previously, she mistook the infield semaphore board for the winning post, and this caused her to stop riding prior to the completion of the event. As Ms Willis’ actions had not affected the placings, Stewards took no further action other than to remind Apprentice S. Willis to fully ride her mount out over the concluding stages.

Race 4: ALEX SURF CLUB BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP  1400 M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by J. Bayliss, rider of second place getter PALATIAL PRINCE, against the winner, HE’S ESSENTIAL ridden by N. Beriman alleging interference over the final 100m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage, Stewards established that PALATIAL PRINCE was inconvenienced and became awkward when contacted by HE’S ESSENTIAL which shifted out under pressure. Stewards were satisfied that given the nose margin, and the interference suffered, that had this not occurred, PALATIAL PRINCE would have beaten HE’S ESSENTIAL and therefore upheld the objection, declaring correct weight on the amended placings as follows:
1st place – PALATIAL PRINCE, 2nd place – HE’S ESSENTIAL 3rd place – ASTERN VILLA, 4th place – IN THE BLINK.

IN THE BLINK – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Stewards questioned Jockey D. Thornton regarding the tactics Jockey D. Thornton reported he had been instructed to settle midfield, however when caught wide in the early stages, he elected to pressure his mount forward to obtain a position closer to the rail. Stewards accepted the explanation.

AU REVOIR – Raced wide throughout.

UP THE COUNTRY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.

Davidson advised Stewards that the mare would now be sent for a spell.
