Race 1: Basset Barks Maiden H'cap – 1800m

ELIZABETH’S DREAM – Ridden forward during the middle stages when the pace was only steady in an endeavour to obtain a position closer to the lead, however was unable to cross and as a result raced 3 wide from the 1200m onwards.

GODZONE GIRL – Overraced in the early stages.

SHALLAC – Overraced in the early stages and near the 1200m shifted out to avoid heels and raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder of the race.


Race 2: Red Building Maiden Plate – 1200m

Jockey B. Stewart was fined $200 for negligence in that on 2 occasions he was required to reweigh as he had not properly prepared his gear to weigh out and had to add gear. As a result the horse was late to the mounting enclosure.

SIMBAH – Tactic change. Connections advised that the filly, which has been ridden in a forward position, would be ridden midfield or worse with the blinkers off today. The horse was ridden accordingly.

ELITE HONG KONG – Trainer S. O’Dea was fined $100 for failing to produce the Document of Description for the horse. Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Overraced badly in the middle stages until leaving the 600m.

ALFIE JUNIOR – Slow to begin.

UNIQUE PEARL – Slow to begin.

ARABIAN HAWK – Jumped away awkwardly.

LA CIGALE – Overraced in the middle stages.

STYLISH SON – Jockey T. Bell reported his mount travelled well throughout the event, however weakened over the concluding stages. He was unable to offer an explanation for the performance.


Race 3: Butler McDermott Maiden Plate – 1200m

ZINGING – Change of Tactics – To be ridden closer to the lead today. The horse was ridden accordingly.

BEKANNTES – Change of tactics. The gelding, which has been leading, will be ridden midfield if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

DIRECT QUOTE – Tightened for room at the start and had to be checked, losing significant ground.

BIG GREEN PONY – Jumped away awkwardly.

ZINGING – Jumped away awkwardly.

WELSH WARRIOR – Laid in across heels, causing its rider to top riding and straighten near the 400m.

CHARJAC – Raced 3 wide without cover.


Race 4: McDonald Solar and Electrical Maiden Plate – 1200m

ISLAND EMPIRE – As R. McMahon was indisposed, T. Harrison was substituted as the rider of Island Empire. Shortly after the start had to be steadied to avoid heels. Overraced badly in the early stages and was checked from heels near the 900m. B. Stewart, rider of KING OF THE CASTLE, was reprimanded for shifting ground when not sufficiently clear. Raced greenly in the home straight.

CARMENERE – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages.

FLASH DRAGON – Had to be steadied near the 1100m and shifted in, making contact with another runner and became unbalanced.

CALL ME BILLY – Bumped and became unbalanced near the 1100m.

SO IMPATIENT – Shifted out to obtain clear running after entering the home straight and made contact with another runner on a number of occasions. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

KING OF THE CASTLE – Bumped on a number of occasions after entering the home straight.

DEB’S SPIRIT – Rider P. Romeo dropped his whip near the 100m.

MYDALEA – Raced 3 wide without cover.


Race 5: Basset Barks QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1600m

HIDDEN ROAD – Trainer G. Pollock was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the gelding by the prescribed time.

FIRE WITHIN – Raced wide from the 800m onwards and then laid in badly in the home straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage. Lost its near hind plate in running.

HIDDEN ROAD –Inconvenienced between runners near the 350m.

ORPHEUS – Jockey T. Bell reported his mount travelled well in a favourable position until leaving the 1000m and the horse commenced to weaken, and despite being ridden vigorously from the 600m proved very disappointing in the run to the line. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities, and a swab sample was taken. Connections indicated they would give consideration to sending the horse for a spell.

BRIALKA LODGE – Jockey M. Cahill reported his mount was not comfortably in its action and had given consideration to easing the horse out of the race passing the 400m. A post race veterinary examination found the horse to be mildly lame in the off foreleg. Trainer T. Miller was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next race start.

CASHINKO – Rider J. Stanley reported his mount did not handle the softer than normal track conditions.

COURT’S STAR – Trainer J. Wilcock was questioned regarding the improved performance. He stated that the horse was slow to begin at its most recent start, adding that if the race had been longer the horse would have fought out the finish. He indicated that the gelding has been a late maturer and was suited to today’s step up in distance to 1600m. He added that at its first start from a spell over 1000m the horse was not suited to that distance and did not race well on the rain affected track conditions.


Race 6: Lauder & Sons Class 1 H'cap – 1000m

ZEFFIRETTA – Trainer N. McCall was fined $200 for the late gear change of a tongue-tie being added to the gear of the horse. Slow to begin.

KARIEGA – Slow to begin.

SMALL TALK – Jumped away awkwardly, losing ground. Raced wide without cover.

KATELETTE – Tightened for room over the concluding stages, causing its rider to stop riding.


Race 7: Shine For Thomas Foudation 0-75 H'cap – 1200m

STAR DRAGON – Raced 3 wide without cover.

SHOW OF STRENGTH – Raced wide.

CEE THE DRAGON – Jockey K. Wharton was fined $200 for returning to scale overweight.

SONS OF GOD – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bowed its off fore tendon. Connections advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced for the horse prior to its next race start.


Race 8: Butler McDermott Class 1 H'cap – 1400m

MORE ENERGY – Suffered a minor laceration to its off hind leg en route to the track. The horse was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

CHILLY PREDICTION – Slow to begin.

SO RIDICULOUS – Improved onto the heels of a weakening horse approaching the 400m and had to be steadied and alter course.

ISTALENA – Tightened for room and steadied approaching the 200m.

HANGOVER TOO –Tightened for room and steadied approaching the 200m. Raced 3 wide throughout.

ONE LUCKY SHEILA – A post race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that the results of an ECG must be provided to stewards and that the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
