HOLLY HOLY – Jockey B. Grylls was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the mare, which led in today’s event. Miss Grylls indicated that her instructions had been to ride vigorously out of the barriers and attempt to secure a position one out and one back, however after travelling a short distance she did not feel she would be able to position her horse behind TAIL AND ALL, which was racing to her inside, and as a result she strode forward with the view to position outside ZOOMANIA. She added that when ZOOMANIA was steadied passing the 1500m she was positioned 3 wide and therefore elected to allow her mount to stride forward to the lead. Trainer W. Walters confirmed the instructions and was satisfied with the way in which the horse was ridden, adding that he was somewhat disappointed with the mare’s performance and would advise stewards of any abnormality with the horse that comes to light in the coming days.

ELUSIVE STORM – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey L. Cassidy stated that the mare overraced in the early and middle stages when the pace was slow. He added that the mare wasn’t suited when the race developed into a sprint home over the final 500m.

Wiggins reported that he would like to have obtained a position midfield, however the horse was inconvenienced by another runner shortly after the start and could not muster sufficient speed to remain in a midfield position. He added that the horse after obtaining clear running in the home straight was doing its best work over the concluding stages.

Wallace stated that he had instructed apprentice Grylls to settle in a handy position with cover but was satisfied that after EPIC CHOICE began so well that apprentice Grylls allowed the horse to stride forward to the lead. Stewards asked Miss Spratt if there was an opportunity between the 850m and 600m to steady the pace and whether this would have had any effect on the overall performance. Miss Spratt indicated she had ridden the horse before and was satisfied with the pace being set at this stage of the race, adding that she eased the horse in order to have it settle. She felt as the horse has a high cruising speed and raced over similar distances when ridden in the same fashion she was content with the tempo which was being set. She added that the filly, in her view, was still travelling comfortably rounding the home turn, however commenced to weaken approaching the 300m and, in her view, may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer P. Jenkins agreed with the comments of jockey Spratt, adding that consideration would be given to the sending the SHES FLAWLESS for a spell. Stewards advised Mr Jenkins should the filly not spell, it would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to starting again.
