SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Race 3. Trainer M. Palmer reported to stewards that Kobi Creek pulled up well after its disappointing performance, and indicated he would now be sending the gelding for an immediate spell.

Race 1: Local News Maiden H'cap – 1800m

USSANDU – Trainer K. Kemp was reprimanded for failing to arrive on course with a bit lifter which was part of the horse’s notified gear, and as no bit lifter was available on course the stewards permitted the horse to start with this piece of gear.

COOL DELIGHT – As jockey R. McMahon was to be overweight, T. Treichel was substituted as the rider of the horse. R. McMahon was fined $100. Finished a distant last. Trainer K. Miller was advised that the horse’s nomination will be refused for TAB venues until its form improves at non TAB venues. Mr Miller advised that the horse will be retired.

PATRIARCH – Chang of tactics. Connections indicated the horse will be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Tightened for room near the 300m.

MACHTIG RENHUNG – Forced wider by another runner near the 1100m and again forced wider near the 600m.

MISS JODY’S JOY – Had to be checked near the 500m from the heels of a weakening runner.

QUEEN GEE – Obliged to steady from heels near the 500m.

HERITAGE LISTED - Finished a distant last. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse pulled up in a distressed state and suffering from a moderate case of the thumps. Trainer Mr G. Hardy was advised that the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Mr Hardy advised that the horse will be retired from racing.


Race 2: XXXX Gold Australian Pale Ale QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1000m

STEP POTENTIAL – Slow to begin.

JUST PRETENDS – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

EARL OF FORDYCE – Overraced passing the 800m and shifted wider on the track whilst being restrained and as a result raced wide from that point onwards.

GREY RENA – Jockey T. Treichel reported his mount whilst racing wide commenced to lay in from approaching the 600m and laid in significantly in the home straight under pressure, placing him at a disadvantage. Trainer T. Hurley was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse regarding its racing manners.

MOUNT MAZE – Was placed in restricted room leaving the 300m and had to be steadied.

RUNWAY ANGEL – Raced wide.


Race 3: Yalumba Benchmark 80 H'cap – 1400m

SKATING AWAY – Jockey J. Byrne was asked to comment on the performance of his mount. He indicated that the horse was not suited to the steady pace set in the middle stages. He also added that near the 800m he had considered shifting the horse wider and improving outside the leader, however did not wish to expose the mare without cover too early in the event, and indicated the steady pace in the event had a detrimental effect on his horse’s finishing effort as it failed to quicken entering the home straight.

Race 4: Go Transit Media Group Class 3 Plate – 1200m

RED CENT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Shifted wider near the 700m to improve and raced wide from that point onwards.




Race 5: Spire Law Maiden Plate – 1200m

The start of this race was delayed to hold for another venue.

WHO’S YOUR DADDY – Tightened for room shortly after the start and had to be steadied. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey B. Pengelly indicated he would have liked to be in a more forward position however after suffering some minor interference on jumping away he was obliged to take up a position in the second half of the field. He added that in order to maintain his position he was obliged to pressure the horse throughout the event and he was quite pleased with the horse’s finishing effort on a surface he felt the horse was not entirely comfortable on.

NICE TIME – Raced wide without cover.

GEE TWENTY - Raced wide.

CHARJAC – Trainer M. Mair indicated that the horse would now be sent for a spell.


Race 6: Pryde’s Easifeed Class 1 H'cap – 1000m

DUAN OSCAR – Stewards questioned trainer B. Gill regarding today’s seemingly improved performance. He indicated that the horse had a brief spell between its last 2 starts and had raced well at its most recent start, however weakened over the final 200m. He added that he had expected a forward showing in today’s event however did have concerns that the horse may have struggled against the older horses.

NUG’S POCKET – Improved on to heels near the 800m and had to be steadied.

CLANDISE – Became awkward passing the 500m. Struck over the head by the whip of another runner near the 250m. Raced wide. Jockey J. Byrne was asked to comment on the performance of the horse today. He stated that after becoming awkward rounding the home turn the horse failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and raced like a horse that had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer S. Kendrick indicated that in light of today’s performance he would give consideration to the horse’s immediate racing future.

RED HOT DREAM – Raced wide. Jockey M. Cahill advised the horse’s performance was disappointing, adding the gelding hung out rounding the home turn and then laid out under pressure in the home straight. He was however unable to offer any other tangible explanation for the performance.

THE YES MAN – Jockey K. Wharton was fined $300 for excessive use of his whip in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.


Race 7: Sea Vista Developments Class 1 H'cap – 1400m

SEQUOYAH – Jumped away awkwardly. Became awkward when overracing in the early stages.

DUAN MAJOR – Obliged to check away from the heels of another runner near the 1200m when the pace slackened and shifted out, inconveniencing other runners. D. Griffin, rider of LA FEMME FATALE, was reprimanded for excessively steading the pace.

NORTHERN WARRIOR – Forced wider and had to be steadied to avoid heels near the 1200m. Following this, the horse commenced to overrace and was permitted to stride forward and obtain the lead passing the 800m.

ZINGING – Forced wider near the 1200m.

CRIMSON FORCE – Held up for clear running in the home straight between the 300m and 200m.

LA FEMME FATALE – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near hind leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next race start.


Race 8: Access Insulation Class 2 H'cap – 1600m

On return to scale a protest was lodged by stipendiary steward Mr P. Gillard on behalf of the 3rd placegetter, WANT FOR NOTHING, against DARYL’S RUN being declared the 2nd placetter, on the grounds of interference near the 200m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards’ patrol video, it was established that at this point WANT FOR NOTHING was tightened for room and had to be checked as a result of a shift from DARYL’S RUN. In the circumstances stewards were satisfied that the interference suffered was sufficient to reverse the placings and the protest was upheld and the Judge’s placings altered to read: No. 3 – Old Smokey – 1st No. 10 – Want For Nothing No. 11 - Daryl’s Run – 3rd No.8 – See Cruise - 4th. At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice T. Williams, rider of DARYL’S RUN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that in the home straight she allowed her mount to shift out under heavy riding, resulting in jockey T. Bell, rider of WANT FOR NOTHING, having to check his mount and lose his rightful running. Apprentice Williams was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 12 July and to expire at midnight, 23 July.

WANT FOR NOTHING – Raced wide until the 900m mark.

MAGNETIC STAR – Shifted in abruptly near the 900m and made heavy contact with the running rail.

AGENCIA – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey R. Fradd indicated that the horse travelled well behind the favourite and was travelling well into the home straight, however when asked for a response proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer D. Bougoure advised he would report back to stewards in the coming days if any abnormality came to light which may have had a bearing on the performance.
