SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Ipswich, 31.7.15 – Race 3 – Brothers Leagues Club Plate – 1350m

DEMESNE – Trainer C. Munce reported that the gelding had pulled up well following the event and he indicated that he would continue on with the current preparation.

Race 1: Wimmers Soft Drinks 3yo H'cap – 1000m

SYN CITY – Slow to begin, and then raced wide without cover.

FINE FERGUS – Slow to begin.

MY GIRL HAYLEY – Raced greenly in the early stages. Apprentice A. Fancourt dropped her whip near the 300m.

ULTIMO – Jockey J. Lloyd was asked to comment on the performance. He indicated that his mount did not muster any speed and lost touch with the main body of the field in the early stages. He advised connections that the filly would benefit from a step up in distance to 1400m as it was doing its best work over the final 200m. He added that he was obliged to alter course approaching the 100m to avoid the heels of another runner, which was tiring.

Race 2: HMR Projects Pty Ltd Class 5 H'cap – 1000m

JET DOWN ON IT – Reared up in the barriers prior to the start. The horse was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Apprentice B. Appo pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift out under pressure over the concluding stages, which resulted in ELIMINATOR being tightened for room between JET DOWN ON IT and TELMEMORE, which further resulted in jockey R. Wiggins having to take hold of ELIMINATOR at this stage of the race and lose his rightful running and ground at this point. Apprentice Appo was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 21 August, the conclusion of a previously incurred suspension at Doomben, and to expire at midnight, 30 August.

MISS STASH – Slow to begin, losing significant ground. Obliged to race in restricted room near the 250m when attempting to take a tight run to the inside of the weakening GOLD BUTTONS, causing its rider to stop riding for a short distance.

ELIMINATOR – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running after passing the 500m and until near the 300m. Had to be checked over the concluding stages.

TELMEMORE – Slow to begin.

CRAIGLEA MASTA – Raced 3 wide without cover.

GOLD BUTTONS – Apprentice B. Grylls could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which weakened over the final 300m, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer D. Murphy undertook to report to stewards any abnormalities that come to light which may have had a bearing on today’s performance.

Race 3: XXXX Gold Maiden H'cap – 1600m

The start of this race was delayed in order to hold for another venue which was running late.

WINNING SPIRIT – Slow to begin.

LEGALLY COOL – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with another runner. Shifted ground and made contact with another runner over the concluding stages. Raced 3 wide without cover.

PROSPECTING – Bumped by another runner on jumping away.

AMAWIN – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

HAVANA CIGAR – Shifted ground and made contact with another runner over the concluding stages.

DISORDER – Raced 4 wide without cover.

Race 4: One Agency Coastal Ratings Band 0-70 H'cap – 1400m

MAN OF MELODY – Fractious in the barriers and reared. The horse was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

RED CENT – Slow to begin, losing significant ground.

GENTLEMAN JACK – Slow to begin.

SHE’S A DANICA – Stewards questioned jockey J. Lloyd regarding the tactics adopted when it appeared he had opportunity to settle the horse outside the leader in the early stages. He then improved and led the race, setting a strong tempo. Jockey Lloyd stated he would have preferred to settle outside the leader, however the mare overraced and refused to settle and he allowed his mount to stride forward in an attempt to have it settle, however refused to, and, in his opinion, this was detrimental to its overall performance. He further indicated that the trainer would now remove the blinkers from the horse’s gear. Trainer R. Heathcote confirmed it was his intention to remove the blinkers from the mare, adding that he will attempt to avoid racing at the Sunshine Coast in future as following today’s performance he had formed the view that the horse does not race well at this venue.

Race 5: Yalumba Maiden H'cap – 1200m

EMMA’S POCKET – Slow to begin.

REGAL LAD – Slow to begin.

SHADES OF PEARL – Jumped away awkwardly, making heavy contact with another runner. Shifted out to secure clear running passing the 400m and made heavy contact with another runner and became unbalanced. A post race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the off fore pastern.

WE WANT PRENUP – Inconvenienced on jumping away.

PLANET AMERICA - Inconvenienced on jumping away.

MUSTANG JACK - Inconvenienced on jumping away.

AKACHETA LEE – Caught wide in the early stages before being ridden vigorously to assume the lead passing the 800m. Bumped by another runner and forced wider passing the 400m.

JACKSON BAY – Hung out throughout the race and continued to do so under pressure in the home straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage. A post race veterinary examination was performed and the horse coughed on several occasions during this examination. Trainer T. Gollan advised that he would have the horse scoped when it returns to the stables and report the findings to stewards. Mr Gollan also advised that the horse would be sent for a spell. Stewards informed Mr Gollan that the horse would be required to trial prior to its next race start.

Race 6: Caloundra Chamber of Commerce Class 3 Plate – 1800m

STAINER – Slow to begin.

SO RIDICULOUS – Laid in under pressure from the 400m onwards.

NOT TO KNOW – Shifted out abruptly after passing the 100m and had to be steadied from heels.

HALO SHINE – Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to the lead approaching the 1200m.

Race 7: Coastline BMW Ratings Band 0-70 H'cap – 1000m

CONQUER – Slow to begin.

DENMARK HILL – Raced wide without cover.

SINE TIMORE – Raced in restricted room and made contact with another runner before becoming unbalanced near the 700m.

RILE - Raced in restricted room and made contact and became unbalanced near the 700m. Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted by jockey J. Lloyd. Of concern to stewards was Mr Lloyd’s riding after leaving the 600m when in a position between DENMARK HILL and SINE TIMORE, and his apparent lack of vigour at this point until leaving the 500m and also jockey Lloyd’s reasons for remaining closer to the fence when it appeared he had opportunity to ensure RILE had clear running by shifting wider in the straight as RILE ultimately had difficulty securing clear running over the concluding stages and had to be steadied from the heels of FORETOKEN. Jockey Lloyd explained that after being placed in restricted room by DENMARK HILL, he did not wish to pressure his mount as he felt he would be forced wider when rounding the home turn, and did not feel the horse could sustain a run from the 600m. He added that in the home straight when he was still a distance away from runners in front of him, he felt that he would be better served attempting to improve in a straight line rather than shift wider and cost the horse ground. Stewards advised Mr Lloyd that in their opinion it would have been a better option maintaining his position between DENMARK HILL and SINE TIMORE rather than alter course to the inside and lose ground. Further, when making ground over the final 100 metres he should have attempted to improve between FORETOKEN and CONQUER rather than attempt to improve inside of FORETOKEN which resulted in him having to restrain his mount to avoid that runner’s heels over the final stages. In all the circumstances stewards did not feel that his riding of RILE was so unreasonable as to be culpable under the rules.

Race 8: One Agency Coastal Class 3 Plate – 1200m

LIBERATION – Slow to begin. Hung in over the final 300m, placing its rider at a significant disadvantage and was unable to be fully tested to the finish of the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a routine swab sample was taken.

STORM FIGHTER – Held up rounding the home turn and until approaching the 300m, and had to be steadied after improving onto heels over the concluding stages.

PUNTA NORTE – Raced 3 wide without cover.
