Race 6: TJS Services Qld Class 1 H'cap – 1600m

LEGALLY COOL – Trainer Mr M. Mair had some concerns with the horse after arriving on course and subsequently requested it be examined by the veterinary surgeon, which subsequently found no obvious abnormalities. The horse was again examined behind the barriers and deemed suitable to race.

HIDRIFTER – Began awkwardly, resulting in jockey L. Rolls brushing his right stirrup iron and losing the use of it for a short distance and the horse shifting out abruptly. A short distance afterwards jumped a bare batch on the track.

CEDA MISS – Slow into stride. Held up and shifted in to improve.

DELNIELLO – Slow into stride. Stewards afforded trainer Mr K. Martin to comment on the seemingly improved performance. He stated that the gelding at its last start was slowly away and settled further back in the field than anticipated. He added that the horse settled closer today due to the good barrier draw and was suited by the step up in distance.

GODZONE GIRL – Overraced in the early and middle stages and shifted in, making heavy contact with another runner near the 1000m. Then raced 3 wide without cover.

ARDROVA – Bumped heavily near the 1000m.

STAINER – Raced 4 wide without cover.

HAVANA CIGAR – Jockey B. Stewart was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race.

NORTHERN WARRIOR – Jockey A. Best reported that from the wide draw it was anticipated that the horse would race a little more forward than usual, however from the gate when left without cover in the early stages the horse overraced badly and for this reason he elected to stride forward and race in the lead.

SINE TIMORE – Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide without cover.

TELEMORE – Slow to begin.

GOLYACOVERED – Became unbalanced when crowded slightly after the 200m.

PICTURE IT – Trainer T. Miller’s representative Miss Johnson explained that at its last start the horse raced a little more forward than anticipated and did receive trouble in running, but in her opinion did not finish the race off on the firm track on that occasion. She added that prior to this when first up this preparation PICTURE IT was successful on soft track conditions similar to today, further adding that since its last start the gelding had worked well and by being allowed to race more patiently in a rearward position, she was of the view the manner in which the race was run and the soft track conditions were attributable to the improved performance today.
