He further indicated that the horse would more than likely trial prior to its next race start.

GENERAL

As M. McGuren and T. Brooker were ill and M. Powell was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: BLINDS-AWNINGS & SECURITY QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1600M

The start of this race was delayed to hold for another venue.

BARBERANCE – A. Best dropped his whip near the 200m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Raced wide without cover throughout.

EXCELLENT SPIRIT – Became awkward on jumping away after making contact with another runner.

TIME’S UP – Slow to begin. Stewards questioned D. Griffin regarding his riding of the gelding, particularly between the 400m and the 300m where it appeared he had opportunity to improve into a run between YIFAN and ELUSIVE ELEMENT and rather than improve into the position he positioned himself trailing ELUSIVE ELEMENT. He explained that when rounding the home turn ELUSIVE ELEMENT had shifted wider and he anticipated a run presenting itself to the outside of that horse. He indicated that he gave consideration to shifting back to the inside, however, when passing the 400m ELUSIVE ELEMENT commenced to shift in, he was of the view that the run would close, however this did not eventuate and he elected to attempt to secure this run near the 300m. He was, however, disappointed shortly afterwards when ELUSIVE ELEMENT did shift in under pressure as he had anticipated and he was therefore unable to fully pressure the horse and was obliged to steady near the 150m. He was of the view that this affected the horse’s finishing position. After considering his explanation, stewards advised jockey Griffin that they were of the view that he had erred in failing to attempt to secure the run between YIFAN and ELUSIVE ELEMENT earlier than he did, however given that the run did become tight near the 200m as he had anticipated, stewards agreed that his concerns in attempting to take this run at the 400m were reasonable in the circumstances and took no further action.

ROSADOR – Stewards questioned J. Dann regarding the horse’s improved performance in comparison to its most recent start. Mr Dann indicated that in his opinion the horse’s form had been good prior to last start, where on that occasion the horse suffered minor interference near the 900m and was obliged to race wide throughout and was forced wider on a number of occasions after passing the 700m. In his view, these factors had significantly affected the horse’s overall performance and he had expected a more forward showing in today’s event.

YIFAN – Overraced in the early stages.

Race 2: BOLACK PUBLICATIONS PTY LTD MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

The start of this race was delayed when FRANLYLE was presented without a tail chain and there was a delay whilst a tail chain was found and added to the horse’s gear.

CARNECAR – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

ISLAND EMPIRE – Shifted wider when the pace slackened near the 800m and raced three wide from that point onwards.

JERRYVIL – Lost its near fore plate in running.

BOLD AVENUE – Examined by the veterinary surgeon after an abrasion was observed on the nearside shoulder and passed fit to start. Obliged to alter course in the early stages of the home straight to secure clear running. G. Geran was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip in a backhand manner.

FRANLYLE – Slow to begin.

HALO DE LAGO – Slow to begin.

ROSE OF WOORIM – Raced wide throughout.

TUTU CUTE – Raced wide without cover and was forced wider by another runner passing the 800m.

WE WANT PRENUP – Tightened for room and steadied at the start.

ONE MORE KISS – Raced wide throughout. Lost its off hind plate in running. T. Bell was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in shortly after the start, causing interference to a runner to the inside.

SHADES OF PEARL – Stewards questioned apprentice L. Tarrant and trainer P. Duncan regarding the tactics adopted and the horse’s performance. Mr Duncan indicated that there were no specific instructions issued as the horse had been slow to begin at its most recent start and had performed moderately and he was therefore not concerned if the horse was positioned back in the field. L. Tarrant indicated he was of the view that from his wide alley he would be obliged to work too hard in the early stages to secure a position closer to the fence if he had ridden forward and therefore elected to steady at the start and take up a position in the second half of the field. He added that he suffered minor interference during the first 200m and this resulted in him being positioned in last position on the fence. He then indicated that he had some difficulty securing clear running in the home straight and improved on to the heels of a weakening runner over the final 100m and was unable to fully test the filly from that point onwards. He did add that even with the difficulty securing clear running, he was somewhat disappointed with the overall performance. Mr Duncan indicated that in light of today’s performance, he would discuss with the owners the prospect of sending the horse for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

Race 3: CRAVE MEDIA MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000M

JERUSALEM – G. Geran reported that his mount raced greenly and raced wide from the 600m onwards.

MAGIC GLOW – Trainer C. Munce was fined $100 for failing to declare M. Cahill as the rider of this runner by the prescribed time. M. Cahill reported that the horse travelled well, however was quite disappointing in the run to the line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have a delayed post-race recovery. Trainer C. Munce was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to its next start.

ANADEM – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost significant ground. Made contact with the running rail near the 700m. Trainer K. Walker was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners.

ANGEL MIO – Slow to begin.

BLOOMIN’ ELUSIVE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

NO LUST LOST – Raced wide throughout.

DIAMONDINE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

Race 4: KARALEE PARK PTY LTD CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1000M

OFFENSIVE PLAY – M. Cahill reported that his mount laid out from the 600m.

ASHGROVIAN – Stewards questioned T. Harrison regarding the positioning of the gelding and the overall performance. Ms Harrison indicated that she had been instructed to try to obtain cover as the horse has had a tendency to overrace and hang out when restrained. She indicated that the horse began well and despite her efforts improved into a position three wide outside the lead. She said that passing the 600m she attempted to have the horse settle, however the gelding resented being restrained, as she had been advised, and also commenced to hang out. She indicated that the horse was awkward in its action in the home straight and as a result she did not overly pressure the horse over the final 100m. Trainer G. Burns confirmed the instructions and indicated that he was very disappointed with the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have received significant abrasions on both hind fetlocks and the off fore fetlock. The veterinary surgeon also reported that the horse was lame in the near hind leg. Mr Burns was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance and the horse would need to trial satisfactorily prior to its next start.

ANGELS CROWN – Fractious in the barriers, jumped away awkwardly and was significantly slow to begin.

HELLO AL – Sustained a laceration to the near hind leg in the float whilst travelling to the course. Examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 1.05 pm on veterinary advice.

HITMAN HARRY – Jumped away awkwardly and was unable to muster early speed.

Race 5: LEADER INTERIORS PTY LTD H’CAP – 1200M

ZAHA’S ACE – L. Tarrant reported that he was disappointed with the overall performance and indicated that the horse, whilst it led, had to be pressured to obtain this position and in his view the horse is lacking its customary dash out of the barriers.

MURDER OF CROWS – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Race 6: PROLIQUOR CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

DANORO LAD – Laid in approaching the 600m, tightening the running of another runner. And as a result was then directed wider on the track and continued to race wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, causing its rider to be unable to fully test her mount.

MAGIC BABE NING – Apprentice R. Johnston-Bell was reprimanded for using the whip more than 5 times in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.

SWISS MUSIC – Laid out under pressure in the home straight, causing its rider to be unable to fully test her mount.

Race 7: MEREDITH KITCHENS CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1400M

BORIS BADENOV – Stewards afforded J. Byrne the opportunity to comment on the performance. He stated that from the wide barrier he was instructed to push forward and as a result had to do a significant amount of work in the early stages to find a position and as a result did not finish the race off. He added that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited to racing off the speed with cover.

THREE BEERS PLEASE – Raced wide throughout.

BY THE VINES – Unable to muster early speed despite the efforts of its rider.

MENACING – When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice J. Orman indicated that he did not feel the horse ran out a strong 1400m.

LAUGH A LITTLE – R. Fradd reported that he believed the horse had come to the end of its preparation and would benefit from a short let up and a drop back in distance to 1200m. Trainer W. Bannerot confirmed that the horse would be sent for a spell and also felt that it did not run out a strong 1400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be exhibiting poor post race recovery, and a swab sample was taken.

MOONLIGHT DANCER – Slow to begin.

ARGIE’S HEART – Connections advised that the rider will be instructed to have the horse ridden on the speed to take advantage of the favourable barrier draw. The horse was ridden accordingly. Raced wide without cover.

Race 8: QUALITY PLASTIC PRODUCTS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1600M

SAM DE HERO – A. Allen felt that the 7-day backup along with the 59kg impost had an effect on the horse’s performance and advised that the horse did not quicken when attempting to improve rounding the home turn. Trainer C. Anderson agreed with Mr Allan’s comments and advised that he would avoid starting the horse within 7 days of a previous run if circumstances permit. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

AUDELLA – Tightened for room and had to be steadied leaving the 200m.

ARDROVA – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
