Race 1: BOB JANE T-MART QTIS 3YO C&G MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M

LUJAC – Raced wide throughout.

ROWDY ONE – Raced three wide without cover.

JACK LANCASTER – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

JESTER DANE – Overraced with its head in the air for a short distance when the pace slackened near the 900m.

PERFORATION – Stewards questioned apprentice T. Williams as to whether it had been her intention to lead. She indicated that she had been instructed to ride forward, but as her mount did not begin well she attempted to secure a position midfield with cover, however due to the slow pace which was being set, she allowed the horse to stride forward to position outside the lead passing the 700m.

RED MAGIC – Shifted wider after being restrained from heels approaching the 800m and raced wide from that point onwards before being inconvenienced by another runner and forced wider approaching the 500m.

PONTY – Stewards opened an inquiry into the handling of this horse and after taking evidence from apprentice S. Payne and trainer L. Ross adjourned the matter to a time and date to be fixed.

LORD DARIUS – J. Lloyd reported that when placed in restricted room approaching the 600m his mount overreacted when restrained after being momentarily tightened for room and lost its position as a result.

Race 2: VOLVO SUNSHINE COAST MAIDEN H'CAP – 1400M

EIGHT CHANCE – Overraced in the early stages and raced wide throughout.

FINNERO – Trainer L. Birchley was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.

RED ‘N’ BROWN – Steadied out of the barriers to obtain a position closer to the fence. Raced wide from the 600m. Stewards asked apprentice L. Tarrant to comment on the horse’s performance. He indicated that the horse does not tend to show early sped and from the wide alley went back and settled at the tail of the field. He added that when asked to improve into the race the horse was quite field shy and raced greenly, hanging out rounding the home turn, and the horse’s manners, in his opinion, had a detrimental effect on the overall performance. Connections will be advised that a warning will be placed on the horse’s racing manners. L. Tarrant was reprimanded for using the whip in a forehand manner in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

HEROIC ROCK – Stewards questioned D. Griffin regarding his riding after passing the 600m as to whether he had opportunity to improve into the race by shifting wider and following EIGHT CHANCE, and further questioned him as to whether he had opportunity to shift back to the inside after passing the 400m when, after having not improved and being held up for clear running, a run availed itself whilst he was held up at the heels of ROSE OF WOORIM. Jockey Griffin explained that he did not give consideration to shifting wider as he felt ROSE OF WOORIM was one of the chances in the race and he would be able to follow that horse into the home straight and improve. He felt that shifting wider and following EIGHT CHANCE would have cost him ground and would have been detrimental to his chances. He further explained that when in the home straight he would have been forced to shift across the heels of METALLIC POINT in order to obtain running closer to the fence and as in his opinion the track conditions on the fence were inferior he did not wish to make this manoeuvre and indicated that the horse did not obtain clear running until the final 100m and responded to his riding at that stage and he was of the view that the horse was doing its best work over the concluding stages. Trainer S. Simpson was concerned that the horse may not be able to run out a strong 1400m today and had indicated to jockey Griffin not to avail the horse of clear running too early in the race. Stewards advised jockey Griffin, after considering the evidence, that in their opinion his ride lacked initiative and he should have made greater effort to obtain clear running rather than waiting for ROSE OF WOORIM to take him into the race.

ROSE OF WOORIM – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

COUNTRY MAIL – Raced wide without cover throughout.

HONEY AND ROSES – Steadied from heels when the pace slackened passing the 800m.

METALLIC POINT – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels when the pace slackened passing the 800m.

Race 3: ALL COMPUTER SERVICES BM80 H’CAP – 1400M

NOOGOORA BURR – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages and made contact with another runner.

HLUDOWIG – Slow to begin.

BORIS BADENOV – Bumped by another runner near the 100m.

Race 4: BLOOMHILL CLIENT SERVICES CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1000M

HOT SNIPPETY – Inclined to lay in after passing the 400m and made contact with NEARCTIC CHILLER, then continued to lay in for the remainder of the event.

AIR DIAMOND – Blundered badly on jumping away and lost significant ground, then overraced on heels from the 700m until approaching the 400m.

Race 5: BLOOMHILL VOLUNTEER DEPARTMENT MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

GREEN STYLE – Laid out rounding the home turn and in the home straight.

MOY STARI – Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice M. McGillivray regarding his tactics in the early stages when it appeared he had opportunity to secure a position closer to the fence and rather than doing so he steadied and shifted around heels and rode aggressively before being positioned four wide without cover. Apprentice McGillivray indicated that he had been instructed to attempt to ride in a forward position and he felt that the horse would muster sufficient speed to take up a more forward position despite being steadied in the early stages. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

BOYS FROM THE BUSH – Raced wide without cover.

HAZZEL MONIQUE – Trainer J. Holcombe was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.

SQUIRTZI – Late scratching at 10.12 am for veterinary reasons.

FIZZICALLY WICKED – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

SMOOTH TRUTH – Trainer D. Bell was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.

Race 6: BLOOMHILL COTTON TREE MARKET CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

The start was delayed when the tongue tie on GAZIMBER had to be reapplied.

SUPER KANGAROO – Apprentice S. Eilbeck was asked to comment on the horse’s performance. She said that after leading, the horse refused to settle despite her efforts and in her opinion this had an effect on the horse’s finishing effort.

GAZIMBER – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover.

FIVE SPICES – T. Bell reported that he was somewhat disappointed with his mount’s finishing effort. He said that after travelling well and obtaining clear running passing the 400m, the horse did not let down as anticipated.

LONDON LADY – When questioned, J. Lloyd stated that the horse travelled well until the 700m when he became concerned with the horse’s action and indicated that as a result of this he did not overly pressure the horse in the home straight and it weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Connections could offer no explanation for the horse’s performance and indicated that he would monitor the horse’s post-race recovery and advise stewards of anything that comes to light which may have had an effect on the performance. Stewards advised Mr Dunn that should nothing become apparent, the horse will be required to trial prior to racing again.

BLOOMIN’ ELUSIVE – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, R. Fradd said that after rearing at the start he was obliged to ride the horse at the tail of the field and at no stage did the horse travel comfortably despite his urgings and weakened in the home straight. He advised that he was of the view the horse would benefit from a spell.

LA FEMME FATALE – Raced wide throughout.

Race 7: BLOOMHILL CANCER CARE CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1600M

HAVANA CIGAR – Raced three wide without cover.

CASINO GOLD – Raced wide throughout. Tightened for room between runners passing the 300m and had to be steadied and was then held up for a short distance before the 200m. J. Lloyd, the rider of HAVANA CIGAR, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out under pressure, causing the incident.

THAT’S MAGIC – Raced wide from leaving the 700m.

MAGIC BABE NING – Apprentice R. Johnston-Bell was fined $100 for using the whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

WESTERN BELLE – Due to a miscommunication, L. Tarrant was incorrectly declared as the rider of this horse when M. Cahill had been engaged for the ride.

ROBARD – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Race 8: BLOOMHILL OPPORTUNITY SHOPS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1300M

MURDER OF CROWS – Significantly slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and in the home straight until leaving the 200m. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners. Trainer G. Heinrich’s stable representative indicated that consideration would be given to sending the horse for a spell.

ARGIE’S HEART – Raced wide throughout.

NARSONS DUKE – Had to be steadied near the 200m when weakening and forced to race in restricted room.

OFFENSIVE PLAY – When questioned as to the horse’s performance, M. Cahill stated that the gelding failed to show its customary speed in the early stages and as a consequence he was obliged to pressure the gelding more than he would have liked and in his opinion this had a detrimental effect on its ability to finish the race off.

RESETALENKO – Steadied and obliged to alter course near the 150m when tightened for room. D. Browne, the rider of DEITCH, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out under pressure.
