Race 1: Glenview Par 3 Golf Club Maiden Plate – 1400m

HELL OF A QUEST – The start of this race was delayed when mare was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Raced wide without cover. Trainer R. Simpson reported that in light of the horse’s pre-race manners today and performance, he would send the mare for a brief spell.

CATCH JACK – Slow to begin.

BIGMORDRIVE – Jockey L. Londregan reported his mount had a tendency to lay out over the final 200m.

MOMENT OF SILENCE – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey T. Harrison indicated that the horse, despite having obtained a nice position behind the lead in the early stages, could not maintain this position and lost ground in the middle stages and weakened in the home straight. Trainer Mr M. Mair advised that he would consider adding blinkers to the horse’s gear and give the horse one more start over a longer distance before considering its racing future.

Race 2: Fort Knox Storage Class 3 H'cap – 1400m

NO MAGIC NEEDED – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. M. Cahill was asked to comment on the performance. He stated that after beginning awkwardly he rode the horse at the tail of the field, which was in contrast to its recent racing pattern. He indicated in hindsight this may have had an effect on the overall performance as the horse had a tendency to lay out in the event and was disappointing from the 600m.

VINTAGE COGNAC – Shifted wider on the track to improve when overracing in the early stages and assumed the lead passing the 900m.

ANGEL DANCER – Became unbalanced near the 900m and was steadied when racing in restricted room.

PARTY SPIN – Overraced in the early stages and was ridden forward after passing the 700m to a position outside the lead rounding the home turn.

Race 3: Buderim Bendigo Community Bank QTIS 3yo Fillies Maiden H'cap – 1200m

CATENACCIO – Slow to begin. Held up at the 400m and shifted out in an attempt to secure clear running approaching the 300m and made heavy contact with another runner and was obliged to steady from heels before shifting back to the inside to secure clear running approaching the 250m. At a subsequent inquiry, stewards reprimanded jockey M. McGillivray and advised him he should exercise more care in similar circumstances.

ARDENNES – Inconvenienced by another runner on jumping away. Steadied from heels passing the 700m. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which finished a distant last, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

OPINIONATED – Jumped away awkwardly.

SENORITA ROSITA – Steadied passing the 700m and lost ground when placed in restricted room between runners. Raced wide.

SHEZA HOTTI – Bumped by another runner whilst weakening near the 150m and became unbalanced.

HOTBOT – Raced wide without cover.

Race 4: Fencepac CG&E Maiden H'cap – 1000m

WAGEE – Trainer D. Hansen was fined $100 for failing to present the Document of Description for the horse. The start was delayed when the horse became fractious in the barriers, causing M. Cahill to be dislodged.

JETINTOIT – Tightened for room approaching the 900m and steadied. Overraced when the pace slackened leaving the 700m, and hung out from that point onwards. From the 500m the horse was held up for clear running until near the 350m.

SAGAMAMA – Tightened for room approaching the 900m and steadied. Overraced when the pace slackened leaving the 700m.

ALL NATURAL – Raced wide without cover.

FORDYCE KNIGHT – Raced wide.
Race 5: Shine Beauty Caloundra CG& E Class 2 H'cap – 1000m

ROYAL EVENT – After being fractious in the barriers, reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground, taking no competitive part in the event. A warning was placed on the horse’s barriers manners.

SUPERIOR DRAGON – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

ST CAJETAN – Made contact with another runner on jumping away.

TARZAN – Made contact with another runner on jumping away.

THAT’S JERRY - Raced wide without cover.

RED CLAW – Jockey B. Stewart reported that, in his opinion, the horse was not entirely comfortable in the soft track conditions and he felt that as this was the horse’s first start from a spell it would take benefit from the run. Trainer D. Meagher reported that in hindsight he may have erred in removing the blinkers from the horse’s gear. He felt that the horse would be more suited to being stepped up over longer distances where the horse would be able to secure a position closer to the lead, and agreed with jockey Stewart’s comments that the gelding was not entirely comfortable in today’s soft track conditions.

DAZET – Apprentice J. Orman was fined $100 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

Race 6: Henzells Pelican Waters Foundation Class 1 H'cap – 1600m

LIGHT SHOWS – Apprentice jockey S. Eilbeck reported her mount was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Overraced for a short distance in the early stages.

RATHGIBBON – Inconvenienced shortly after the start and lost ground.

SOL WITNESS – Began awkwardly and after traveling a short distance became awkward and lost ground.

THAT’S MAGIC – Raced wide in the early stages and was ridden forward after passing the 1300m and obtained a position behind the leader near the 1100m.

SOL WITNESS – Raced wide until the 1100m.

NOOSA HEADS – When attempting to improve its position after passing the 800m was steadied momentarily from heels near the 700m.

SHANTICO – Jockey M. Cahill got his whip caught in the rein from after the 200m and until approaching the 100m.

LA FEMME FATALE – Jockey K. Wharton was questioned regarding the tactics adopted in that he steadied from the barriers to take up a position at the tail of the field, which was in contrast to the horse’s recent racing pattern. He indicated that as horse has been caught wide in previous starts he had been instructed to take hold and take up a trailing position. Trainer’s representative Mr M. O’Leary was advised that a reprimand would be recorded against trainer R. Heathcote for failing to notify a change of tactics.

MORINGAS MO JO – Stewards questioned jockey M. Hellyer regarding the tactics adopted in that the horse established a significant lead during the middle stages. He indicated that after passing the 1300m he did not wish to trail THAT’S MAGIC, which had improved to his outside, and elected to ride forward to maintain the position inside that horse. He said following this the horse overraced significantly despite his efforts and it had not been his intention to lead by such a significant margin. Stewards advised jockey Hellyer he had erred in failing to steady at that point and allow THAT’S MAGIC to cross, which would have afforded his mount the opportunity to settle. However stewards were satisfied that the manners of MORINGAS MO JO did have some bearing on the performance and took no action in the circumstances.

Race 7: Maroochy RSL Class 1 H'cap – 1200m

CAMOUFLAGE – Raced wide without cover.

ENDOY – Overraced for a short distance passing the 800m.

KAPGUN – Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported her mount was inclined to lay in under pressure in the back straight.
