GENERAL

As P. Hammersley was indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards' Summary Sheet.


Race 1: Hayman’s Electrical Caloundra F&M Class 1 H'cap – 1000m

ST REMY – Slow to begin.

PROUD VAL – Raced wide throughout.


Race 2: Centrepoint Holiday Apartments QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1000m

WICKED INVESTMENT – Apprentice J. McGillivray was fined $100 for failing to weight out with a girth. Slow to begin.

POETIC SHOW – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide.

BELLA SASH – Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported that the filly raced greenly amongst runners.

MARIAH’S EXPRESS – Raced wide without cover.

SKANDA – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey B. Pengelly stated that, in his opinion, the colt had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer B. Herne confirmed that the colt would now be sent for a spell and gelded.


Race 3: Nu Trend Quality Homes CG&E H'cap 1000m

LIMMERICK MOON – Had to be steadied passing the 900m when inclined to lay in across heels.

WONDERFUL TALE – Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported her mount was inclined to lay in under pressure from the 400m. Raced wide without cover.

MAC’S DIESEL – Apprentice S. Payne reported his mount laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

PATRONIZING – Steadied when placed in restricted room shortly after the start.

COLINELLE – Jockey R. Fradd reported that despite being slow to begin he was able to obtain his intended position just behind the speed, however failed to respond as expected when placed under pressure upon straightening and proved disappointing. He added that the colt was inclined to lay in in the home straight. Trainer S. O’Dea was unable to offer any further explanation regarding the performance and agreed the horse was inclined to lay in, and added that he would report back to stewards any abnormality that comes to light in the coming days which may have had a bearing on the performance.



Race 4: Secure Access Pty Ltd Maiden H'cap – 1200m

OUR CEE BEE – The explanation from trainer R. Heathcote for the late declaration of M. McGillivray as the rider was accepted.

DIEHARD DIVA – Began awkwardly.

OUR CEE BEE – Inconvenienced near the 1000m and had to be steadied when SHUGAR BEL shifted in.

HIDING – Inconvenienced at the 1000m and had to be steadied when SHUGAR BEL shifted in. A. Best, rider of JERRYVIL, was reprimanded for shifting ground when not sufficiently clear. Bled from one nostril during the event. Connections were advised that the horse must perform a 1000m gallop before stewards before being permitted to race again.

PORTSEA – Overraced for a considerable distance when the pace slackened passing the 1000m before being checked from heels approaching the 800m. Apprentice L. Tarrant reported that rounding the home turn and into the home straight his mount laid out under pressure, placing him at a disadvantage.

GLOBAL GURU – Raced wide without cover.

LADY DUPORTH – Stewards questioned jockey T. Harrison regarding the tactics adopted in leading in today’s event, which was in contrast to the horse’s established racing pattern. Miss Harrison indicated that as the horse has previously had a tendency to begin poorly in its races, pre-race discussions were had with trainer W. Hulbert and they formed the view that the horse would be positioned in the second half of the field with cover. However, when the horse began well she elected to push forward as she was aware that there was limited speed in the event. Stewards also questioned trainer W. Hulbert who confirmed that they had not expected the horse to lead.


Race 5: Secutor Securites Pty Ltd Maiden H'cap – 1600m

TEEKAYO – The start of this race was delayed when jockey A. Spinks was dislodged from the horse when proceeding to the barriers and was unable to fulfil his engagement due to an ankle injury. The horse was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 2.37 pm. All monies invested on Teekayo were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

12 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #2

CYNISCA – Slow to begin and trailed the field and finished a distant last. Jockey J. Lloyd reported that the horse did not travel comfortably and when asked for an effort shortened stride. Due to his concerns with the horse’s action he did not pressure the mare over the final 500m and as a result it finished a distant last. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards advised connections that the horse would be required to trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to racing again.

ISLAND SUNSET – Buffeted between runners at the start and lost ground. Overraced in the early stages and as a result shifted wider on the track, racing 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

REGULARITY – Jumped away awkwardly, making contact with the barrier partition. Raced greenly throughout and made contact with the running rail near the 1000m.

Race 6: Slade Bloodstock Pty Ltd Class 3 H'cap – 1600m

STAR FORMATION – Jumped away awkwardly and lost significant ground.

ROBARD – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

JUST KEEP GIVING – Overraced until leaving the 500m.




Race 7: Bassett Barks Pty Ltd Class 2 H'cap – 1200m

RISING LUCK – The explanation from trainer T. Thomas for the late declaration of J. Byrne as the rider was accepted.

TONGUE OF FIRE – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

NEARCTIC CHILLER – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

GOLDEN MINESHAFT – Overraced in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to the lead passing the 800m.


Race 8: Tensens Group Pty Ltd Class 1 H'cap – 1400m

GRACEFUL ROSE – Due to transport difficulties, C. Schmidt was unable to fulfil her engagement was replaced by T. Brooker. Prior to the start of the race, the mare, which pulled very hard when proceeding to the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. . Slow to begin. Rider T. Brooker reported her mount felt awkward in its action post race. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare was somewhat distressed following the race.

WICKED TRILOGY – Held up rounding the home turn and until approaching the 300m.

KAITLIN COVE – Jockey M. Cahill reported that the horse travelled well until leaving the 600m when he became concerned that the filly would not finish the race off well and did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure leaving the 400m. He noted that the horse sweated up more than at its most recent start. Trainer M. Mair agreed with the comments of jockey Cahill and added that he would monitor the horse in the coming days. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly had pulled up in a distressed state with a poor post-race recovery.
