Race 1: Statewide Wealth Maiden H'cap – 1200m

LUCRETIA – The start was delayed when the horse was fractious in the barriers. Tightened for room shortly after the start and had to be steadied . Slow to begin.

BELL CHOISIR – Slow to begin.

WAR HAMMER – Slow to begin.

LA DENNA ROSA – Had difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance passing the 400m.

SNACK ON THE RUN – Raced wide without cover.


Race 2: Statewide Taxation QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1400m

SLIOCH – Slow to begin.

HALLSIDE REBEL – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.

ENDLESS DON – Raced wide from the 700m.

SCHEMEL – Held up from the 250m until leaving the 150m.

SPANISH GARDEN – Held up rounding the home turn.
GOOD AFFAIRE – Raced wide throughout.

BENOWA – Whilst weakening in the home straight was tightened for room near the 200m and had to be steadied. N. Day, rider of MISHANI SCOUT, was reprimanded for shifting ground when not clear. Raced 3 wide without cover.

SCRAWLING – Trainer M. Kropp was advised that the filly, which was uncompetitive and finished a distant last, would be barred from TAB venues until its form improved. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 3: Gallopers Sports Club Maiden H'cap – 1600m

ANSWERED – Slow to begin.

SOLAR BY PANELS – Overraced during the middle stages.

HEALTHY GORGEOUS – Commenced to overrace when the pace steadied approaching the 1300m and had to be checked from heels.

FAVULOUS FLOYD – Tightened for room near the 1400m and had to be steadied.

GOYUNG THIEF – Overraced in the early stages and until leaving the 1000m when the horse was shifted wider on the track and then raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder of the race.

WYNORTYN - Improved onto heels near the 300m and had to be steadied before shifting back to the inside to secure clear running.

BIG SAGA - A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be shin sore and was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer M. Mair was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for the horse and it must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

SHADOW MAGIC – Jockey G. Colless was asked to comment on the performance of the horse. He indicated the gelding proved very disappointing, and after settling in a position just behind the lead, shifted out near the 400m in an attempt to secure clear running, however shortly after his mount commenced to weaken and he was unable to afford stewards any further explanation for the performance. Stewards will follow up with trainer K. Schweida if any abnormalities had come to light which may have had a bearing on the performance. A post race veterinary examination of failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 4: Kelly Equine Veterinary Services Class 2 H'cap – 1200m

I’M THINKING – The start was delayed with the horse became cast in the barriers, and after undergoing a veterinary examination was cleared to start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

SILVER HEELS – Slow to begin.

MONACO PLAYBOY – Obliged to alter course to secure clear running after passing the 400m.

DAZET – Raced 3 wide without cover.

IN THE KITTY – A post race veterinary examination, revealed no abnormalities.


Race 5: Wholesale Sands & Recycling Class 1 – 1000m

CLOUT – Change of tactics. Connections advised that from the wider barrier the horse would be ridden back in the field. CLOUT settled at the rear of the field. Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m. Stewards questioned apprentice S. Eilbeck regarding the tactics she adopted on the gelding from leaving the 600m where it appeared she had opportunity to shift back to the inside to secure clear running, however continued to shift wider on the track and was held up until approaching the 200m. Miss Eilbeck indicated that after being instructed to take hold from the barriers the horse settle better than expected and she was obliged to ask for a response from leaving the 700m. She indicted she had made the decision to follow KING’S MEMORY, however with hindsight accepted that a better option would have been to shift back to the inside where clear running had presented itself to the inside of ALPINE STYLE. Stewards agreed with Miss Eilbeck that she had erred in her decision to stay wide on the track, however given the manner in which the gelding finished the race off, stewards were satisfied that her actions did not have a material effect on the horse’s performance, and were also mindful of her status as an apprentice and took no further action.

KING’S MEMORY – Slow to begin. Had to be steadied when placed in restricted room near the 700m by NUB’S POCKET. A. Badger, rider of NUB’S POCKET, was reprimanded for shifting ground at this stage.

ALPINE STYLE – Slow to begin. Lost its near fore plate in running.

RUSTIC MISS – Raced wide without cover.

ROSDANE – Raced wide without cover.

NUG’S POCKET - Raced wide without cover.


Race 6: Greg Grant Saddlery Ratings Band 0-60 H'cap – 1800m

ROCKDAY – Slow to begin.

MISHANI DE NIRO – Slow to begin.

COUNT ROMANO – Held up on heels passing the 600m and obliged to shift out to improve.

CREDIT ONLY – Raced 3 wide without cover.

PATRIARCH – Jockey R. Wiggins could offer no explanation for the poor performance. Trainer B. Smith advised stewards he would now consider the horse’s immediate racing future.. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

LEGAL COUNSEL – Apprentice M. Murphy was pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A in that he used his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. Apprentice Murphy was suspended from riding in races for a period of 1 week, to commence at midnight, 17 April and to expire at midnight, 24 April.


Race 7: Jim McGill Memorial Benchmark 70 H'cap – 1400m

LOCEANO – Change of tactics. To be ridden just behind the lead if possible. The horse was ridden accordingly.

STONECAST – Laid in during the early and middle stages.

CWMBRAN – Jockey G. Colless reported that the horse was extremely disappointing and did not travel comfortably during the race and failed to respond to his riding. A post race veterinary examination of failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and had lost its near fore shoe.

SILENT DUKE – Jockey J. Byrne indicated the horse travelled comfortably until the 450m, however when asked to improve into the race failed to respond to his riding. Trainer S. Kendrick indicated that the horse would now be sent for a spell in light of today’s performance.


Race 8: Jan McMillan Class 1 H'cap – 1400m

SPUR FORTUNE – Change of tactics. To be ridden back if circumstances permit. The horse ridden accordingly.

ENEMY’S DEFEATED – Considerably slow to begin.

D’HARMONY – Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

EMERALD ICE – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run near the 350m and obliged to steady and alter course to secure clear running.

BROOKTON ICE – Had to be steadied leaving the 1100m when placed in restricted room to the inside of TARBERT, which had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FLINDERS PEAK , which was being steadied. Jockey R. McMahon was fined $100 or using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

FLINDERS PEAK – Bumped approaching the 500m and became unbalanced. Raced wide throughout.

PLATINUM PRINCE – Stewards interviewed jockey J. Lloyd regarding the performance and he indicated that the horse was under heavy pressure from the 900m and was unable to hold a position on the horse throughout the race, and that it commenced to weaken badly from the 500m. Trainer T. Edmonds could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Mr Edmonds was advised that the horse must trial to the stewards’ satisfaction prior to its next race start.

TARBERT – Bumped approaching the 500m and became unbalanced. Jockey B. Pengelly was fined $100 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

ROMAN DOLL – A post race veterinary examination revealed shin soreness. A veterinary certificate must be provided if the horse races within the next 6 weeks.
