Race 1: Parish Supporters QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 1300m

DOUMBEK – Stewards accepted the explanation for the change of rider from R. Fradd to D. Griffin.

The start was delayed when BOLD HEART dislodged its rider D. Browne behind the barriers. The hose was examined by the veterinary surgeon and the colt was cleared to start.

The start was further delayed when GUINIGI PRINCE reared and became cast in the barriers. The gelding was examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 11.57 am on veterinary advice.

All monies invested on Guinigi Prince withdrawn by the order of the stewards at 11:57 to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable.

4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1
8 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #2

Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on GUINIGI PRINCE.

ROYAL ATOM – Tightened for room shortly after the start. When the pace slackened near the 900m, the gelding commenced to overrace at the 800m and had to be restrained from heels. ROYAL ATOM continued to raced ungenerously for the remainder of the event. A warning was placed on the gelding regarding its racing manners.

OUR CINDERELLA – Tightened for room near the 600m by another runner and had to be steadied. Held up rounding the home turn and had some difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

TRUSTIN DREAMS – Raced wide without cover.

HEART SKIPT A BEAT – Raced wide.

REAL MYSTIQUE –Raced wide.


Race 2: Dina Duff Memorial QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 1300m

INVINCIBOY – Significantly slow to begin. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse regarding its barrier manners. Tightened for room near the 900m and had to be steadied. Again tightened for room near the 300m and had to be steadied.

CHARMLEY RIVER – Stewards questioned jockey D. Browne regarding the handling of the horse. He indicated that from the wide alley he had attempted to secure a position similar to the horse’s most recent starts on the pace, however not leading. It became apparent shortly after the start he would be obliged to steady in order to secure a position close to the fence, and at a point near the 900m felt he would be able to secure a trailing position one off the fence behind GOLDEN DEPART, however he was obliged to shift out at that point after having placed pressure on runners to his inside. A short distance later the pace of the event steadied and he attempted to improve in a 3-wide position, however the horse to his inside, GOLDEN DEPART, shifted out at the same point and he was therefore forced to race in a 4-wide position until entering the home straight. He indicated that whilst these factors did have a bearing on the overall performance, he was nevertheless disappointed with its finishing effort as he felt at the 400m the horse was close enough and travelling comfortably to run the leader down, however did not respond as he had anticipated. Stewards acknowledged that his positioning of the horse throughout the event was not ideal, however accepted that he had little alternative in the circumstances.

LADY SOLERNO – Trainer R. Cameron was questioned regarding the improved performance. He indicated that at the horse’s first start this preparation he was pleased with the performance as the horse finished the race off well, however was held up for clear running over the concluding stages. He indicated that in a quality race at the horse’s most recent start it had performed satisfactorily, however, in his view, weakened over the concluding stages and following this he had elected to experiment with the addition of a tongue-tie, and was of the view that this may have been beneficial for the horse’s finishing effort. Apprentice A. Denby was fined $100 for using her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.



Race 3: The Sandgate Brighton Catholic Parish Maiden H'cap – 1000m

SIRTIME – Trainer G. Ryan was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

LITTLE LEGION – Tightened for room and had to be steadied at the start.

EMS IMPERIAL – As B. Stewart was indisposed, R. Fradd was substituted as the rider of the horse. Jumped away awkwardly, making contact with another runner.

VIKINGESS – Slow to begin.

DANYSUS - Raced 3 wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which was making an abnormal respiratory noise, Trainer P. Evans was advised that he must provide to stewards the results of an endoscopic examination performed after exercise.


Race 4: CBM Air QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1000m

CORETTA – As M. Cahill was to be overweight, S. Eilbeck was substituted as the rider of the horse. M. Cahill was fined the sum of $100. Bumped by another runner at the start and became unbalanced.

IZZAH – Raced wide and hung out rounding the home turn.

KAHNEMAN – Hung out rounding the home turn.

GALLANT SAGA – Tightened for room and had to be steadied at the start. Lost its near hind plate in running.

CAPTAIN’S SON – Jumped away awkwardly.

OUR RACKETEER – Slow to begin. Had some difficulty securing clear running passing the 300m.

PROLIFIC BELLE – Obliged to alter course to avoid a weakening runner near the 300m.

COURIER MALE – Raced wide without cover.

DUKE OF MOOLOO – Lost its near fore plate in running.


Race 5: Bliss Beautiful Yoga Maiden Plate – 1400m

INGEEGOODBE – Slow to begin.

STRIKING WARRIOR – Slow to begin.

MIGHTY TAX – Overraced in the early stages and when the pace slackened near the 800m had to be checked from heels and shifted wider on the track for a short distance. Inconvenienced by another runner rounding the home turn.

MISS KATIE – Inconvenienced by another runner rounding the home turn.

LORD DARIUS – Hampered by another runner near the 800m and raced wide.

KULABA - Raced 3 wide without cover. Hung out badly rounding the home turn.

KAPSTAR – Hung out badly rounding the home turn and laid out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 6: Fish Of Flinders Class 5 H'cap – 1200m

BEAUDRAGON – The start was delayed when the gelding made contact with the barriers when being loaded and underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Apprentice Eilbeck reported that it had been her intention to position the gelding closer to the lead, however after blundering at the start she was obliged to take up a position in the second half of the field. Raced wide without cover from leaving the 700m.

GHERARDINI – The start was further delayed when the mare kicked out at the barriers and got its back leg caught between the back gates before undergoing a veterinary examination and being cleared to start. Had some difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

GOLFING – Jockey T. Harrison reported that the gelding overraced badly in the early and middle stages and, in her view, this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

LIMERICK MOON – Jockey J. Lloyd stopped riding over the concluding stages and straightened his mount, which was inclined to lay in.

SENGLEA SUN – Jockey R. Fradd reported his mount laid out throughout the event, particularly under pressure in the home straight.

MENANCING – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey R. Wiggins indicated he was disappointed with the overall performance, adding that the horse’s best form has been in rain affected conditions.


Race 7: 1Equine At Garrard’s Class 1 H'cap – 1200m

JACQUERIC – Reared as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Disappointed for a run in the early stages of the home straight and obliged to alter course. Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported that whilst she had been disappointed for clear running in the early stages of the home straight, she also felt that the horse was reluctant to race between horses and felt would be better served being shifted wider on the track to be given clear running.


EIGHT BELOW – Significantly slow to begin.

LOVELY CHAP – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained after passing the 900m and continued to do so until near the 700m. Shifted out on the home turn to obtain clear running and made heavy contact with another runner.

HOT HYPNOSIS – Raced wide from the 700m.

MANKINI LOVE – Bumped heavily by another runner rounding the home turn.

SUNNY VICTORY – A post race veterinary examination of the horse which finished a distant last revealed it to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised it must compete competitively in an official trial and undergo satisfactory ECG prior to its next race start.

Race 8: Jim McKeering Real Estate Class 1 H'cap – 1600m

ENEMY’S DEFEATED – Stood flatfooted at the start, losing considerable ground. Trainer J. Marlow was advised he must provide a barrier certificate for the horse prior to its next race start.

HESSIAN – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

MONO LAD – Overraced in the early and middle stages, raced ungenerously with its head in the air for some distance passing the 1100m.

AUDELLA – Improved quickly in the home straight near the 200m and when attempting to secure clear running between HESSIAN and MONO LAD was disappointed for a run and had to be severely checked and clipped heels when MONO LAD shifted in to secure clear running. After taking evidence from the riders involved, stewards couldn’t be satisfied AUDELLA had secured a run between those horses and therefore ruled that the interference was as a result of the horse being disappointed for that run and held no rider responsible.

SILVER HEELS – Hung out throughout the race and found to be suffering from thumps post race, with a slow post-race recovery. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.

Race 9: O’Connor Ruddy & Garrett Class 2 H'cap – 1400m

SHANTICO – Slow to begin.

CATENACCIO – Slow to begin.

LEGAL COUNSEL – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

SHATICO – Held up in the stages of the home straight.

GEE TWENTY – Hung out rounding the home turn. Apprentice S. Eilbeck was fined $100 for using her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
