Race 1: YALUMBA WINES BENCHMARK 90 H’CAP – 1000M

TISANI TOMSO – Raced ungenerously in the early stages.

Race 2: XXXX F&M H’CAP – 1300M

STAR DROP – Bumped by another runner approaching the 400m.

MOON AND THE STARS – Raced three wide without cover. Placed in restricted room for a short distance after passing the 100m.

BUON AUSPICIO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

GET ON – Shifted out to secure clear running approaching the 400m and made contact with STAR DROP.

CLASSIC ELEMENT – Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: SUMMERVELD RACING STABLES BENCHMARK 85 H’CAP – 1600M

OUTRAGED – Slow to begin.

SPUR LE JOUER – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 700m.

Race 4: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS BRUCE MCLACHLAN MEMORIAL QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1200M

SPOT THE DIFF – Stewards sought an explanation from L. Dittman regarding the reasons for his mount losing ground after passing the 900m, having obtained a favourable position behind the leaders. Jockey Dittman indicated that the horse became awkward and changed stride at that point, resulting in the filly losing ground and relinquishing its position behind the leaders. After viewing the patrol film with jockey Dittman, stewards were satisfied with the explanation.

HAPPY EVENT – Apprentice J. Oliver was fined $300 for weighing in more than half a kilogram over his allotted weight.

FAIRY DANCER – Slow to begin.

GLIMMERING WORLD – Tightened for room at the start, had to be checked and lost ground. Apprentice B. Stower reported that her mount raced greenly and overraced throughout, hanging out from the 800m until entering the home straight.

SISTER PATTI – T. Harrison reported that her mount laid out under pressure in the home straight.

Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to GOOD 4.

Race 5: XXXX SUNSHINE COAST GUINEAS QTIS 3YO PLATE – 1600M

TIVACI – Laid out under pressure after passing the 100m, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten.

PERFECT DARE – Raced wide during the early stages. J. Byrne reported that he was somewhat disappointed with the horse’s performance and indicated that in his view the gelding does not run out a strong 1600m. He was also of the view that as the horse was backing up from a week ago, he felt that this also contributed to the performance. He advised that connections indicated they would consider sending the horse for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

TIME TO TORQUE – After being held up for clear running rounding the home turn, shifted out to improve after passing the 400m and in doing so made contact with another runner and became unbalanced.

ROXY RHYTHM – Raced wide without cover.

MADAME DE BAN – Raced wide throughout. Became unbalanced when bumped by another runner after leaving the 400m.

Race 6: HMR PROJECTS GLASSHOUSE H’CAP – 1400M

The start of this race was delayed when a patron who had taken ill received ambulance attention.

STRATUM STAR – Overraced in the early stages. Raced wide without cover.

SACRED STAR – When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, V. Colgan indicated that the horse did not travel well into the race as he had expected and was under pressure to improve passing the 600m. He felt the horse raced flat and may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer T. Pike agreed with the comments of jockey Colgan and indicated that the horse would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Lost the off hind plate in running.

SALUTER – Steadied near the 900m when momentarily tightened for room.

TIME TO PLUNDER – Slow to begin.

FLAMBOYER – Laid in for a short distance passing the 900m.

ELUSIVE CATCH – Slow to begin.

IRISH CONSTABULARY – Overraced in the early stages.

Race 7: CELLAR MAINTENANCE AUSTRALIA CALOUNDRA CUP – 2400M

Trainer D. Healey was fined $200 for the late declaration of J. Orman as the rider of INSTRUMENTALIST.

INDEX LINKED – Slow to begin. Bumped by another runner rounding the home turn.

MAURUS – Stewards questioned D. Browne regarding the horse’s performance and the tactics he adopted. Jockey Browne indicated that he was satisfied to take up a position at the tail of the field, however, he attempted to force INDEX LINKED wider on the track near the 1800m, however was unable to perform this manoeuvre and was then content to trail JUMBO PRINCE for the remainder of the event. He indicated that when asked for a response from the 600m, the horse did not quicken and in the home straight, after being bumped by another runner near the 400m, did not quicken as anticipated and in his view did not run out a strong 2400m.

INSTRUMENTALIST – Pulled hard in the early stages, shifted wider passing the 1300m and was ridden forward to a position outside the lead passing the 1000m.

GESEMI – Raced wide from the 1000m onwards. J. Lloyd was asked to explain his riding near the 1000m when after being positioned on the fence he shifted to a three wide position. Jockey Lloyd indicated that his instructions were to have the horse in a forward position and to improve into the race after passing the 800m as the horse has been found to be one-paced. He indicated that whilst he had a favourable position on the fence, he had been slow to begin and was obliged to position the horse further back in the field than he would have liked and when the pace of the race increased at a point near the 1000m, he saw an opportunity to improve into the race and obtain a position close to the lead and as such he shifted wider and attempted to improve. He indicated further that the horse was found to be disappointing and he indicated that connections would look to return the horse to New Zealand and consider sending the horse for a spell.

ALL CLEAR – Shifted out to avoid heels when the pace slackened passing the 1600m and raced three wide without cover for the remainder of the event.

TYPING – Placed in restricted room leaving the 600m.

Race 8: BOQ MOOLOOLABA QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1300M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow J. Byrne, the rider of 3rd placegetter PRECISION STRIKE, to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds on which to lodge and objection against 2nd placegetter OUR STORY. After viewing the videos, J. Byrne declined to lodge an objection.

ARTHUR LE ROI – Became awkward passing the 400m before having to shift back to the inside to secure clear running.

CONFRONTING – Raced wide throughout.

TARZAN – Slow to begin.

MONACO PLAYBOY – Raced wide without cover.

MAYBE EVEN YOU – T. Harrison reported that her mount travelled well until under pressure at the 400m and became unbalanced before weakening badly in the home straight. She indicated that she had some concerns with the horse’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer L. Ross was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to its next start.

GREGORY – Raced wide throughout. K. McEvoy reported that the horse overraced in the early and middle stages and was then under pressure rounding the home turn and weakened in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer B. Smith was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to its next start.

BRAD THE LAD – Late scratching at 4.22 pm acting on veterinary advice that the horse had sustained an injury. Trainer D. Healey was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to its next start. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on BRAD THE LAD be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 4.22 pm:

4 cents in the dollar for the Win #2
5 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #12
5 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #10

OUR STORY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten over the concluding stages.
