Race 1:  Ned Whisky Maiden H'cap – 1000m

MULTICHOICE – Prior to weighing out, trainer S. Kendrick advised that he had made an oversight in not adding a tongue-tie to the gear of the horse. As the filly had trialled recently at the Sunshine Coast with that gear, permission was granted for MULTICHOICE to race with that gear and he was subsequently fined the sum of $200.

BOGEY MAN – Began awkwardly. Attempted to secure clear running outside the leader passing the 400m and was disappointed, and was then bumped by another runner and had to be steadied.  Continued to be held up until the 150m.

SOME COLLECT – Slow to begin.

ACE STRYKER – Slow to begin. Apprentice J. Guthman-Chester was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

FIND NEMO – Bumped the running rail near the 550m.

Race 2:  Rhino Range Of Insulation Maiden Plate – 1400m

ROYAL RECEIVER – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse would be ridden more quietly in the early stages. The horse was ridden accordingly.

BIG PAPA BEAR – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout and weakened in the home straight.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.  Trainer T. Rogers indicated that the horse would now be retired. Stewards however advised Mr Rogers that should circumstances change and the horse  races again, due to the horse making an abnormal respiratory noise, the horse would be required to undergo an endoscopic examination prior to racing again.

ORBITAL – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early  stages.

CHICAGO NIGHTS – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages.

DRAGON IN THE CASH – Shifted out and made contact with another runner near the 900m and became unbalanced, losing ground.

SINISTER PRINCESS – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages in the home straight and was bumped by another runner near the 250m.  Stewards questioned jockey  L. Tarrant  regarding the positioning of the horse which raced in a more forward position. He indicated it had not been his intention to be in the forward half of the field however after beginning well he elected to pressure his mount out of the barriers in order to take advantage of this.  Trainer D. Heinemann was also questioned and he indicated he had the filly a little fresher than he would have liked for a 1400m start and did not give any specific instructions as to where to settle in the event.  However after the horse began well, he was satisfied with jockey Tarrant’s decision to press forward.  Stewards advised Mr Heinemann that for the horse’s future starts he would be required to inform stewards of his intentions should he elect to settle further back in the field.

ESOR – Raced wide throughout.

DAINTY STEPPER – When weakening in the home straight became awkward after being struck with the whip near the 250m and shifted out. The horse again became unbalanced approaching the 100m when struck with the whip and over the concluding stages appeared to shy and shift out.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.  Trainer L. Ross was advised that a warning would  be placed on the filly’s racing manners.

Race 6:   Fish On Flinders Class 1 H'cap – 1600m
