GENERAL

As G. Colless was indisposed due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: ALFIE’S MOOO CHAR & BAR MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

TANIWHA – Raced wide without cover.

ZOFAST – Bumped by another runner shortly after passing the 400m.

JOEL – Shifted out after passing the 400m when attempting to secure clear running, made contact with another runner and became unbalanced and remained held up until approaching the 250m.

YOU DON’T SAY MOLLY – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin the horse went forward and assumed the lead near the 1000m. Stewards questioned trainer S. Kendrick regarding the horse’s improved performance. He indicated that in previous starts endeavours had been made to obtain cover in an attempt to have the horse settle as he is of the opinion that the horse will race better over longer distances. He added that after the horse’s most recent start when it overraced badly and was checked from heels in the early stages, the decision was made to remove the earmuffs from the horse’s gear and alter riding tactics to allow the horse to stride to the lead in an attempt to have the horse dictate the pace of the race and maintain a steady tempo. He indicated that whilst the horse has shown potential in trackwork, he has always been of the opinion that the horse would race better over a mile and will now adopt the tactic to lead in future races.

LADY EIGHTY EIGHT – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure in the home straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

Race 2: DJF AUTO SOLUTIONS CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1400M

PRIVATE HERO – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

KARAKA LASS – Raced wide from approaching the 600m when endeavouring to improve into the event.

THUMBS UP – Apprentice E. Ljung was asked to comment on the horse’s performance. She indicated that when rounding the home turn the horse was under heavy pressure to hold a position, however after entering the home straight the horse did respond to her riding and finished the race off strongly. She added that the horse would be better suited to a race over a longer distance and has raced best when there is more genuine speed in the early stages.

Following this event L. Cassidy was stood down from his remaining engagements by the Club doctor and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 3: NRG GREENBOARD MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed when DE BELLE OF CANNES was difficult to saddle.

SATAN DA – Slow to begin, then raced very greenly and near the 700m made heavy contact with the running rail, almost dislodging its rider, and lost significant ground. Connections were advised that the horse would be required to trial prior to its next start.

MASTER MAGIC AL – Slow to begin.

BRANDY BAR – Shifted in approaching the 800m, despite the efforts of its rider, causing interference to runners to the inside. Raced four wide without cover.

APACHE BOOM – Placed in restricted room near the 800m and was obliged to check from heels.

LUJAC – Slow to begin.

DE BELLE OF CANNES – Proved difficult to saddle. Difficult to load. Slow to begin. Raced greenly and performed poorly in the event. Trainer M. Mair was advised that the filly would be required to trial to stewards’ satisfaction prior to its next start.

HENRY’S AFFAIR – Had to be steadied to avoid heels when racing greenly approaching the 800m. B. Ainsworth, the rider of SPLASH OF CRISTAL, was reprimanded for failing to be sufficiently clear when shifting ground. Raced five wide without cover.

SPLASH OF CRISTAL – Raced three wide without cover.

Race 4: SUNSHINE COAST LIGHTNING QTIS 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

ELLA DIVINE – Inconvenienced by another runner shortly after the start and had to be checked.

ENNAZUS – Inconvenienced by another runner shortly after the start. Raced wide without cover.

NOT TONIGHT DEAR – Blundered on jumping and was then inconvenienced shortly after the start. D. Browne reported that his mount laid in badly in the home straight, causing him to be unable to fully test his mount from the 300m onwards.

OOSHE – Raced greenly and had to be steadied when racing in restricted room approaching the 700m.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED – Blundered on jumping, shifted out and inconvenienced another runner.

ROSEXCEL – Slow to begin and was then tightened for room and had to be steadied shortly after the start.

SOUL SECRETS – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

YEAHNAH – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Race 5: MELBOURNE STORM 20 YEARS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

THE AMBASSADORE – When asked to comment, J. Byrne indicated that the horse raced on its wrong leg from the 800m until approaching the home turn. He indicated that he did not believe this had an overly detrimental effect on the horse’s performance, which in his opinion was disappointing given that when asked for a response in the straight the horse weakened. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

COME BY CHANCE – Overraced badly whilst leading in the middle stages.

DRAYMAN – Apprentice M. McGillivray reported that his mount overraced in the early stages and exhibited an abnormal breathing pattern.

FLASH HERO – Jumped with its head in the air and lost ground and then raced ungenerously in the early stages before overracing approaching the 800m.

Race 6: JAMES ACKERMAN MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1600M

FAST ARROW – Slow to begin.

Race 7: THE RENDER CENTRE CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1600M

DEADLY SHADOW – Slow to begin. Raced awkwardly passing the 1200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

TOBACCO ROAD – After being held up rounding the home turn, had difficulty securing clear running until approaching the 300m and jockey Byrne was obliged to stop riding when disappointed for a run near the 100m.

BALTIC PRINCE – Whilst inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight, was taken wider after passing the 400m and inconvenienced on two occasions over the concluding stages. Apprentice M. McGillivray, the rider of ARAZONA, was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten when his mount was inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.

NIVO – Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight and was buffeted by another runner near the 200m before being obliged to steady after passing the 100m when further inconvenienced.

ARAZONA – Laid out under pressure in the home straight, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten near the 100m.

NATIONAL JEWEL – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

SHE’S FAST – Placed in restricted room after passing the 1400m and became very unbalanced, made contact with the running rail and lost significant ground. Stewards inquired into this incident and established that whilst G. Geran, the rider of DEADLY SHADOW, had shifted in and tightened the running of SHE’S FAST at this point of the race, they were satisfied that jockey Geran had placed pressure on the nearside rein in an attempt to shift away from SHE’S FAST and were satisfied that jockey Geran had made sufficient effort to attempt to rectify the situation. Bumped on the hind quarters in the home straight and as a result laid in under pressure and became awkward.

WATCHANDWAIT – As apprentice A. Sewell was indisposed due to illness, T. Harrison was substituted as rider.
