SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Trackwork rider Mr Jay Drakeley pleaded guilty to a charge under AR139(1)(a) in that when breath tested during the course of trackwork duties at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club on Friday 29 November 2019 the sample provided returned  a blood alcohol reading in excess of the .02% threshold, that being .023%. Mr Drakeley’s licence was suspended for a period of one (1) month, to commence on the day he was stood down, 29 November, and expire on Thursday 28 December 2019. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account Mr Drakeley’s previously unblemished record, the low level of the reading involved, his forthright evidence and his guilty plea.

Race 1: NOOSA CUP SUNDAY 15 DECEMBER CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1300M

STAR SILK – Slow to begin.

PIERRE BIZEL – Slow to begin.

Race 2: SOUTH EAST CIVIL QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed to hold for an interstate venue.

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, J. Orman, the rider of RAGING POLE, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against ROASTED (J. Byrne) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, stewards established that whilst RAGING POLE was struck across the nose by the whip of jockey Byrne, they were satisfied that RAGING POLE had shifted into the line of jockey Byrne’s whip and, furthermore, the contact which was established to have occurred near the 100m in the opinion of the stewards did not have a material effect on the result of the event as the ground lost by RAGING POLE was not sufficient to overturn the half head margin separating both runners at the finish and therefore stewards dismissed the objection, declaring correct weight on the semaphored numbers.

ROASTED – Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

Race 3: BATTERY WISE SUNSHINE COAST QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

SIZZLING RIVER – Shifted out abruptly near the 400m, almost dislodging its rider and causing him to lose the use of the nearside iron. Trainer L. Ross was advised that the horse must officially trial prior to being permitted to race again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

MISHANI QUEEN – Jumped awkwardly. Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn. Inconvenienced by another runner and forced wider passing the 400m. Rider dropped his whip near the 300m.

PROUDLY GREY – Slow to begin.

STELLAR WAY – Shortly after entering the home straight was tightened for room between SWEET RHAPSODY and PATTY’S FORTUNE, which after establishing a run to the outside of READY TO BOLT was obliged to shift out slightly when READY TO BOLT shifted out. This resulted in minor contact with STELLAR WAY and shortly afterwards PATTY’S FORTUNE reacted poorly to this contact and shifted out abruptly, severely tightening the running of STELLAR WAY, causing that horse to be checked.

THRASHER – Jumped away very awkwardly, made heavy contact with the barrier partition and lost significant ground. Inconvenienced and forced wider near the 400m.

Race 4: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1000M

ONLY WANNA SING – Slow to begin.

DREAMALINA – Turned its head to the side as the start was effected and lost significant ground and was then ridden aggressively and improved wide around the field to settle four wide without cover outside the lead before weakening in the home straight.

MASTER BAYLEE – Steadied and lost ground near the 800m when placed in restricted room to the inside of SHE KEEPS NOSECRET, which shifted in. W. O’Connell, the rider of SHE KEEPS NOSECRET, was reprimanded for this incident. Placed in restricted room and had to be restrained leaving the 500m when racing between GRANDIOSO and CATALINA MISS, which shifted out. B. Stewart, the rider of CATALINA MISS, was reprimanded for shifting ground when insufficiently clear.

GRANDIOSO – Raced three wide without cover.

SHE KEEPS NOSECRET – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer S. Thomas indicated that in light of today’s performance the horse would undergo an endoscopic examination and any significant findings would be reported to stewards.

Race 5: DJ GROUP INVESTMENTS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

PLAYTHEFIELD – Jumped away very awkwardly, made heavy contact with the barrier partition, almost dislodging its rider and losing significant ground. Improved on to heels near the 400m and was obliged to steady before shifting wider to secure clear running.

MIRACLESFROMHEAVEN – Jumped away very awkwardly, made heavy contact with the barrier partition, almost dislodging its rider and losing significant ground. Improved on to heels near the 500m and had to be steadied.

SONO DOLCE – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Bumped on a number of occasions and forced wider approaching the 500m.

CABOCHON LIL – Slow to begin.

NATASSA – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground before racing greenly throughout.

THE MOA FACTOR – Improved on to heels passing the 800m and had to be steadied before shifting wider on the track and racing three wide without cover from that point onwards.

Following this event apprentice A. Thompson was examined by the Club doctor and stood down from his remaining engagement.

Race 6: PELICAN WATERS GOLF CLUB MAIDEN H’CAP – 1600M

FAST DEALER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and near the 200m, when being corrected by its rider, became very unbalanced.

SWING SHIFT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

DANSDALE – Commenced to overrace when the pace was steadied leaving the 1400m, was checked from heels and became very awkward as a result.

HOSTILE STAR – Slow to begin.

TOO HARD TO MISS – Had some difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and bumped with another runner as a result when shifting ground.

SUCCEEDANDCONQUER – Overraced near the 1300m and was steadied from heels before racing three wide without cover.

Race 7: Q ADVERTISING CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1800M

BERING SEA – Overraced for a short distance leaving the 1300m and laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BLUE COMET – Trainer N. Doyle advised that it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in a more forward position given that it is stepping up over 1800m for the first time this preparation. The horse was ridden accordingly. After settling behind the lead in the early stages, was shifted wider near the 1200m and improved to a position one off the fence outside the leader near the 800m.

Race 8: TAB CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1800M

MIGHTY QUINN – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

JOY’S REWARD – Shifted to a three-wide position near the 900m to improve and raced wide until leaving the 600m.
