GENERAL
 
Due to current Covid restrictions, Stewards permitted the following weight variations:
Race 5: JULE’S SPIRIT - J Orman 56kg (+0.5kg)
Race 6: SWEET MARGOT MAY - A Mallyon 54.5kg (+0.5kg)
Race 8: ANIMATE - A Mallyon 54.5kg (+0.5kg)
 
Race 1: COASTLINE BMW i4 BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1400 metres
 
IRUKANDJI – Raced in restricted room near the 1000m to the inside of BOYLES. Checked near the 800m. N Callow, rider of BOYLES, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of IRUKANDJI which had to be checked and CAFFREY which was crowded for room. The licence of N Callow to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 5th February up to and including midnight February 14th 2022. Held up rounding the home turn until a point near the 300m.
 
HAPPY BABE – Slow to begin. Raced three wide from the 900m. Bumped on the hindquarters near the 400m when BOYLES was taken out.
 
CAFFREY (IRE) – Crowded for room near the 1000m, had to steadied and then commenced to over-race until a point near the 600m. Near the 400m taken out and awkwardly placed at heels and had to be checked when THE LIONESS shifted out improve. B Stewart, rider of THE LIONESS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 400m he directed his mount out when not clear of CAFFREY which had to be checked. The licence of B Stewart to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 8th February up to and including midnight February 19th 2022.
 
BOYLES – Bumped near the 500m when CAFFREY was taken out by THE LIONESS, which shifted out to improve.
 
THATFRIDAYFEELING (NZ) – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground. Trainer M Lakey was advised a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners. Raced three wide with cover from the 900m.
 
LUNASNIT – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
 
Race 2: COASTLINE BMW iX3 BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1400 metres
 
 
CRACKER ESSGEE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running from rounding the home turn until a point passing the 300m.
 
GAROPPOLO (NZ) – Jumped out at the start and bumped THE CULLINAN. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PERFECT WITNESS – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have suffered cardiac arrythmia. Trainer T Gollan was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance including the results of a satisfactory ECG test and must also trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
TESARC – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
STORMY ROCK – From the wide barrier restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails. Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
THE CULLINAN – Bumped at the start. Near the 500m, when over-racing, had to be steadied from heels.
 
 
Race 3:  COASTLINE BMW M3 QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1600 metres
 
MILITARY GAMBLER – After shifting the near hind plate in the tie stalls and becoming fractious, the plate was refitted, the horse underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Jumped in at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. R Wiggins was fined $300 under AR211(1) for returning to scale overweight.
 
CARNEROS – Bumped at the start. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
DRIVE A DEEL – Rider J Lloyd reported the saddle shifted back near the 1000m placing him at some disadvantage during the running of the race.
 
HELL OF A PRINCE – Crowded between runners at the start and a short distance later blundered and lost ground.
 
ATREVIDA – Jumped out at the start.
 
WHY WE DRINK – Over-raced in the early and middle stages and as a result had to be checked from heels near the 1400m and again near the 1100m.
 
GAMBU – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 4: COASTLINE BMW 2 SERIES COUPÉ QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1000 metres
 
MUSCHIALLI – Slow to begin. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn before shifting out across heels near the 300 metres to obtain clear running and again had difficulty obtaining clear running near the 200m. Stewards questioned B Thompson, rider of MUSCHIALLI, over tactics adopted near the 350m where there appeared an opportunity to take a run between RUBIQUITOUS and PRINCESS LUNAR. B Thompson stated whilst a run did momentarily present itself near the 350m he was of the opinion RUBIQUITOUS was inclined to shift out and for this reason he was reluctant to fully pressure MUSCHIALLI at that point of the race. Trainer T Gollan advised Stewards he was satisfied with the way the horse had been ridden adding that MUSCHIALLI possess only a short sprint and races best when held up for one final run. After considering the evidence in totality Stewards were of the opinion the actions of B Thompson were not unreasonable in the circumstances, particularly given that the run in question closed a short distance later. B Thompson however was reminded to ride his mounts in such a manner to not leave his actions open to question.
 
NOT ANOTHER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Lost near hind plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the outside of the near hind heel.
 
POWER SISTER – Raced three wide throughout.
 
 
Race 5: COASTLINE BMW 4 SERIES GRAN COUPÉ OPEN Handicap 1000 metres
 
RACECOURSE ROAD – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
WEONA SMARTONE (NZ) – Rider R Maloney reported the horse felt awkward in its action on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D van Dyke it would be his intention to trial WEONA SMATONE before starting again and Stewards will follow up with trainer D Van Dyke in the following days regarding how the horse has pulled up.
 
JULE'S SPIRIT – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
STARTANTES – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
 
JE SUIS BELLE – After being fractious in the barriers began very awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
 
Race 6: COASTLINE BMW X3 Class 3 Plate 1000 metres
 
ALLEZ ZOU (NZ) – Bumped heavily on jumping. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
HOLIDAY DREAMS – Passing the 800m raced awkwardly when restrained to obtain cover near the 800m. Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. a post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be suffering from slight heat stress.
 
ZINGALONG – Raced wide for the majority. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight and approaching the winning post attempted to savage SHAMROCK LU. Trainer T Miller was advised ZINGALONG must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Mr Miller indicated he now may experiment with gear changes going forward.
 
ONE SHY RUBY – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. Approaching the winning post was unable to be fully tested when ZINGALONG shifted out.
 
FUNNY MONEY – Bumped heavily on the hindquarters shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
SWEET MARGOT MAY – Shifted in abruptly at the start and bumped heavily with ALLEZ ZOU. Dipped near the 700m and became unbalanced.
 
Following the running of this event rider A Mallyon was examined by the club doctor and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements.
 
The track was upgraded to a Soft 6 after the running of this event.
 
 
Race 7: COASTLINE BMW X4 Class 6 Handicap 1600 metres
 
SLOW HANDS (NZ) – After being held up from the 600m was then steadied from the heels of WARP SPEED near the 500m before obtaining clear running passing the 400m.
 
FORT WAYNE – Laid in during the early stages of the home straight.
 
WARP SPEED – Near the 500m crowded for room and to be steadied.
 
TEXAS STORM – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
 
Race 8: COASTLINE BMW SUNSHINE COAST CUP 1400 metres
 
TYZONE – Near the 150m had to be checked when disappointed for a run between HARD EMPIRE and HAIL MANHATTAN which shifted in under pressure. A Thompson, rider of HAIL MANHATTAN, was advised to exercise in greater care under similar circumstances. Held up for clear running from that point until the finish line.
 
HAIL MANHATTAN – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover for the majority.
 
CHAPTER AND VERSE – Trainer D Forster advised Stewards in light of today’s disappointing performance the horse would now be retired from racing.
 
STAR OF MICHELIN – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the home straight.
 
MR MONEY BAGS – Near the 1100m raced in restricted for a short distance and had to be steadied. Raced wide with cover for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the near side hock, consistent with having been galloped on during the race.
 
 
Race 9: COASTLINE BMW M4 Class 6 Handicap 1200 metres
 
HILO – Severely checked at the start when EXPLOSIVE QUALITY shifted in abruptly on jumping.
 
BOOMTOWN LASS – Jumped out at the start. Shifted in approaching the 200m and was awkwardly placed at heels as a result.
 
MASS DESTRUCTION – Slow to begin. Bumped heavily on the hindquarters near the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FANAAR (NZ) – Laid out from the 600m. Hampered near the 300m.
 
LASTING KISS – Bumped at the start.
 
FASANO – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was readjusted. Checked at the start and lost ground.
 
BONAPARTE – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Checked near the 300m between MASS DESTRUCTION and LASTING KISS which shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.
 
EXPLOSIVE QUALITY – Shifted in abruptly at the start. S Tomlinson was fined $300 under AR211(1) for returning to scale overweight.
