SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

GENERAL
As jockey L. Cassidy was not riding at tonight’s event, rider changes as per Meeting Summary Report.

Race 1: DALZIEL RACING BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1300 metres

PUNT YOUR WAY OUT – Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight, and then laid out under pressure.

DEVILLAIN – Jockey T. Harrison reported that she rode her mount closer to the lead than usual, and in her opinion, this may have had a detrimental effect on the overall performance of the mare. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

CRAZY EYED FRED – Approaching the 800m, when the place slackened had to be restrained from heels, and shift wider for a short distance.

LATE NIGHT DEVIL – Raced wide throughout.

Race 2: KINGSLEY ST CLAIR MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1600 metres

TUSCANY BOUND – Over raced during the early and middle stages.

SEEFELD – Slow to begin. Held up rounding home turn and obliged to alter course in the early stages of the home straight. On return to scale, the gelding was found to have sustained mild abrasions to its off foreleg consistent with being galloped on.

EASIER SAID – Approaching the 600m, shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring DANEROCK and bumped heavily with OCTOBER JOY.

FAT FINGERS (NZ) – Shifted out to avoid heels leaving the 600m. Bumped over the concluding stages.

BETTER LAD – Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn.

CORONEL – Slow to begin.

POSSOVER – Raced greenly whilst over racing in the early and middle stages. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages and bumped with FAT FINGERS.

OCTOBER JOY – Bumped heavily and forced wider near the 600m.

SKILLED ARTIST – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from a poor post race recovery. Trainer A. Boyd reported that he will have the gelding scoped and report findings back to Stewards in the coming days.

Race 3: ALEX SURF CLUB - GEOFF DRUMMOND MEMORIAL Class 4 Handicap 1400 metres

SAMMY – Stewards questioned the tactics adopted by jockey G. Geran in setting a fast tempo in the lead during the early and middle stages. Jockey Geran explained that it had not been his intention to lead and had looked for cover in the early stages. He agreed that from the 1100m his mount over raced, and whilst he was restraining his mount, he felt that if he restrained more vigorously, SAMMY would have become more ungenerous. After reviewing the race footage, Stewards were satisfied with jockey Geran’s explanation.

ANGELS SHARE – Over raced during the early stages when restrained to obtain cover.

Race 4: RED BELLY SPORTS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1400 metres

BOLD HUSSAR – Held up for clear running on rounding the home turn and until the 350m.

CONTI – Slow to begin.

SIR CARTER – Held up for clear running on rounding the home turn.

OUR DRUMMER – Raced wide throughout. Checked near the 1300m when tightened for room. A. Allen, rider of DRAGON SONG, was found guilty of a charge under AR131(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift in at a point near the 1300m when not clear of O’HOKEY POKEY, causing that horse to be taken in crossing the rightful running of OUR DRUMMER, which resulted in that horse being checked. Jockey A. Allen’s license to ride in races was suspended for twelve days commencing midnight the 5th of March 2023 and ending midnight the 17th of March 2023.

ALL NEW HUSTLE – Over raced during the early stages.

O'HOKEY POKEY – Raced wide throughout.

REGAL KING – As jockey L. Tilley was overweight, he was replaced by L. Tarrant. Jockey L. Tilley was fined $100 under AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Slow to begin. Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant findings. Trainer W. King was advised that REGAL KING will have to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

Race 5: CREATIVE STONE Maiden Handicap 1000 metres

The start of this event was delayed due to the significant delay in the previous event, and when DULY ELECTED was reluctant to proceed to the barriers.

THANKFUL HEART – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

MARCH AS ONE – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. Improved onto heels over the concluding stages and had to be restrained before altering course and went to the line without being fully tested.

MISS BACALL (NZ) – Bumped heavily on jumping. Restrained from heels approaching the 200m and obliged to alter course.

COUNTESS TESSA – Restrained after the 700m in order to obtain cover. Laid in under pressure early stages home straight causing its rider to stop and straighten near the 250m.

ELESPRIT MISS – Held up from the 400m until the leaving the 200m, a short distance later was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied and went to the line without being fully tested.

SONIC ARROW – Tightened for room and became unbalanced near the 250m.

GRANDEUR ROSE – Near the 700m was restrained from the heels of COUNTESS TESSA whilst that horse was being restrained to obtain cover. Near the 200m, tightened for room and steadied.

TAORMINA DUCHESS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight and near the 250m made heavy contact with GERTANIE. Jockey G. Cartwright was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a), in that when approaching the 250m, jockey Cartwright failed to stop riding and straighten TAORMINA DUCHESS, which was shifting ground under pressure, resulting in heavy contact with GERTANIE causing that horse to be tightened for room and the rider to take hold, in turn both SONIC ARROW and MARTINI MOMENT were tightened for room in this incident causing the rider of MARTINI MOMENT to take hold. Jockey Cartwright’s license to ride in races was suspended for nine days commencing midnight the 12th of March 2023 and ending midnight the 21st of March 2023.
