GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 4: SOLAROSA – M Cahill 55kgs (+0.5kg)
 
 
Race 1: TRAVIS SCHULTZ & PARTNERS Maiden Plate 2200 metres
 
LET'S PROSPER – Fractious after being loaded into the barriers. Slow to begin. Weakened from the 600m. Trainer J Laing advised the horse may appreciate being ridden further back in the field adding it would now be his intention to drop LET’S PROSPER back in distance.  
 
ANOTHER DAZZLER – Began awkwardly after being bumped at the start.
 
GRIPPING – Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 1600m.
 
KING'S STAR – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight when weakening. Rider B Thompson reported the horse travelled comfortably in the lead however when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.Trainer B Cavanough advised in his opinion KING’S STAR had not backed up from its most recent start on a heavy track at Grafton on 13th March 2023, adding he would now be discussing with connections the immediate racing future of the horse.
 
THINK D'ORO – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
PSYCHIC ROSE – Jumped out at the start and bumped ANOTHER DAZZLER. Crowded for room and momentarily steadied rounding the home turn between ANOTHER DAZZLER and CALLYWAG which shifted out and away from LET’S PROSPER.
 
 
Race 2: MORETON ALL BODY CARE QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1000 metres
 
VICTORY WIN – Became fractious after being loaded in the barriers, reared and both front legs became cast. VICTORY WIN was removed, underwent a veterinary examination, and was declared a late scratching at 1:41pm on veterinary advice. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on VICTORY WIN refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st APPIN GIRL – 4c win, 3c place
2nd ABOUNDING – 4c place
3rd TIGER SHARK – 5c place
 
Trainer K Fogden was advised VICTORY WIN would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.
 
BOLD COMIC – Raced greenly in the home straight when placed under pressure. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
MURAKAMI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Cast off hind plate during the event.
 
ABOUNDING – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
APPIN GIRL – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event. Rider B Thornton dropped his whip approaching the finish line.

MILEY'S MEMORY – Rounding the home turn had to be steadied when crowded for room between BOLD COMIC and MURAKAMI which shifted out to improve. G Cartwright, rider of MURAKAMI, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. 
 
MISHANI CIENNA – Cast off hind plate entering the saddling enclosure. When the plate was unable to be refitted on arrival at the barriers, Stewards permitted the horse to race without the off-hind plate. Underwent a veterinary examination prior to be loaded into the barriers and was cleared to start.

 
Race 3: NORTH COAST EQUINE VETERINARY CLINIC QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 1400 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 minutes due to REBEL NEWS requiring farrier attention on arrival at the barriers.
 
HEROIC SON – Bumped at the start.
 
EVEN NOW – Slow to begin.
 
REBEL NEWS – Cast its near fore plate proceeding to the barriers. Prior to being loaded into the barriers the plate was refitted, underwent a veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped CASROCK.
 
SPOOKY SPIRIT – Jumped in at the start and bumped HEROIC SON. Rider J Orman reported it was not intention to lead, however after beginning well and with no speed shown by runners to his inside, he elected to allow SPOOKY SPIRIT to stride forward and lead the event leaving the 1300m.
 
NOTED – Change of tactics, to be ridden with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly when restrained to thew rear of the field from the wide barrier.
 
CASROCK – Bumped at the start. When asked to comment rider B Wheeler reported after being inconvenienced at the start, he elected to restrain CASROCK to a position further back in the field rather than be caught racing wide, adding that in his opinion CASROCK would appreciate a step up in distance.
 
LAST CHANCE SALOON – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider B Thompson reported due to the slow pace in the early and middle stages of the event he was content to allow LAST CHANCE SALOON to race three wide in a midfield position rather than attempt to restrain the horse to a rearward position with cover.
 
BETTER TIMES – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
 
Race 4: DICKY BEACH SURF CLUB BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1800 metres
 
NORTHERN WOODS – When the pace of the race eased significantly near the 1400m, improved onto heels, shifted out and was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.
 
LEORED – Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. Leaving the 200m was inconvenienced when HOT BANANAS hung out before being corrected by its rider. Co-trainer S Mackinnon was advised a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of LEORED. C Collis, rider of LEORED, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.

SEEFELD – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
DIFFERENT ROAD – When the pace of the race eased passing the 1400m over-raced for a short distance and had to be steadied.
 
HOT BANANAS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Given the horse’s previous record trainer M Morrison was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of HOT BANANAS. It was noted the offside winker of HOT BANANAS partially shifted during the event.
 
BETTER LAD – M Powell, rider of BETTER LAD, was reprimanded under AR131(d) for the manner in which he eased the pace of the race passing the 1400m which resulted in a number of runners being inconvenienced in consequence.
 
EARN OUT – When the pace of the race eased passing the 1400m over-raced for a short distance and had to be steadied. Improved onto heels leaving the 700m and had to be steadied.
 
SOLAROSA – Slow to begin. After being caught wide in the early stages of the event was permitted to stride forward and race in a forward position with cover from the 1300m.
 
A DEVIL'S CHANCE – When the pace of the race eased passing the 1400m over-raced for a short distance and had to be steadied.
 
ROGER EXPRESS – When the pace of the race eased passing the 1400m over-raced for a short distance and had to be steadied.
 
 
Race 5: SUNSHINE COAST DAILY Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
JIMMY THE GYMNAST – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
I AM ARTIE – Laid in under pressure near the 200m obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MINTAKA LAD – Prior to moving onto the track contacted the winning stall partition with its off-hind leg. On arrival at the barriers MINTAKA LAD underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

PAIENBARA – Jumped out at the start. Approaching the 150m shifted out around the heels of the tiring ROCKATHON momentarily crowding VAGABOND PRINCE.
 
POWERALONG – Leaving the 200m was steadied when I AM ARTIE shifted in.
 
ROMEUS – On arrival at the barriers the nose band on the horse was refitted.
 
VAGABOND PRINCE – Crowded at the start between runners and lost ground. Leaving the 400m had to be steadied when CHANCES WITH WOLVES shifted in. A Thompson, rider of CHANCES WITH WOLVES, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Approaching the 150m had to be eased when PAIENBARA shifted out to secure clear running.

ROAR HIDE – Buffeted between runners at the start and lost ground. Near the 400m was momentarily awkwardly placed at the heels of CHANCES WITH WOLVES which shifted out to improve.
 
STANAGE BAY – Jumped in at the start. C Collis, rider of STANAGE BAY, was fined $300 under AR211(1) for returning to scale in excess of 0.5kg overweight.
 
SECRET RED - Raced wide for the majority of the event.

CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Began awkwardly and jumped out.

 
Race 6: BATHERSBY LEGAL Class 1 Plate 1400 metres

COLLEAGUES – Declared a late scratching at 2:44pm on veterinary advice.

MISTA OMEGA – Hampered at the start when ROCK UP jumped out.
 
NATIONAL CHOICE – Inconvenienced approaching 900m.
 
ROCK UP – Jumped out at the start.

TERSANE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
ABAN – Declared a late scratching at 3:49pm on veterinary advice after the horse sustained lacerations to both hind legs.

MILIARENSE – Approaching the 900m raced keenly after being crossed by CRAZY EYED FRED and shifted out resulting in NATIONAL CHOICE being inconvenienced. When asked to comment on the performance rider L Cassidy started the horse travelled comfortably in the run however when placed under pressure did not respond to his riding as expected and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with trainer B Wakefield in the coming days regarding the condition of MILIARENSE.
 
PICK ZA BEANS – Slow to begin. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with trainer J Bruce in the coming days regarding the condition of PICK ZA BEANS.

HELL OF A PRINCE – Inconvenienced and taken wider on the track leaving the 800m.
 
MOTHERLODE – Leaving the 800m improved onto heels and shifted out taking HELL OF A PRINCE wider on the track.
 
DEVINE FALLS – Jumped out at the start.
 

 
Race 7: SUNSHINE COAST FLOORING XTRA BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1200 metres

Declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the photo finish image for 4th. After doing so correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings.
 
LEGEND RULES – Slow to begin. Rider L Cassidy reported the horse felt awkward in its action throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and symptoms of mild heat stress.

CALCAREOUS – From the wide barrier was restrained shortly after the start to rearward position closer to the rails.
 
DEALING'S DONE – Near the 150m shifted out under pressure resulting in rider N Berriman being obliged to stop riding and straighten her mount.

WINE NOT ROSES – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

 BOHEMIAN BOOM – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider G Cartwright reported the horse was inclined to hang in for the majority of the event. Trainer R Heathcote was advised a warning would be placed on BOHEMIAN BOOM for hanging in. 
 
 JIMMY'S DREAM – B Loy, rider of JIMMY’S DREAM, had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of 7 days under AR132(5) to commence midnight 2nd April up to and including midnight 9th April 2023 for excessive use of the whip 17 times in totality.
